: re-tune or no.......
racerX 01-27-2009, 01:53 PM I already have a speedcircuit ecutek(mail in) and now i'm thinking of getting a Jestr tune. I have been hearing really good things about there tunes. here are my mod(UR tbe exhuast//nisei UICP/LICP/AEM intake..what do you think? is it worth it?
dcasandman 01-27-2009, 01:56 PM Is your speedcircuit tune custom or mailin?? If you can get a custom tune I would go that route. If you are just doing another mailin I say waste of money. It will be about the same power for both regardless of what dyno numbers are being posted. Speedcircuits numbers are on a mustang dyno, so the peak will never be as high as jestrs on a dynojet.
racerX 01-27-2009, 02:01 PM it was a mail-in i did. A "mild" tune. Still need the car to be a daily driver.
dcasandman 01-27-2009, 02:08 PM Will the jestr tune be a custom tune? If so I would go that route like I said.
racerX 01-27-2009, 02:19 PM It will be a costom tune... they will be in my area in a couple of weeks.....I was hopeing to get my car Dynoed first, but i don't think that will happen. I was hearing about getting money back from Ecutek for the lisense( have no idea on how to get it back), not really worried about that, but it would be nice to get that money back.
dcasandman 01-27-2009, 02:23 PM I say go custom. I have never heard about getting any money back from eccutek. Where did you hear this?
meat_EVO 01-27-2009, 02:27 PM i love my speed circuit tune, however, i am going to florida Friday for a Jester tune. I am driving 14 hours for a jester tune... so yea.
Jester is making the highest numbers on a stock turbo out of ANYONE. And it is not just the Dyno.
dcasandman 01-27-2009, 02:36 PM ^Meat Im not sure how you say that and I completely respect your opinion. If you just take my numbers alone and do the conversion to dynojet I am well within Jestrs numbers. + or minus 10-15 whp is not that much to see a difference (You would come up with 375-385 depending on percentage between 9-12percent). Possibly add meth like you and close to 400 if not over on dynojet or just up boost to 30 like xtreme has done for 20K miles. There are still only so many thing you can control with a tune to get peak horse power, and Im sure the other tuning options control those factors. I do think a custom tune can be worth 30 to 40 whp though in some cases. I am sure the other good tuners around are just as talented as jestr. I am also sure jestr is great, but the dyno is definitely making those numbers to a POINT. I still reccomend to the OP to get a custom tune no matter what the avenue except for one.

You going to there shop in Orlando?
this is good news.....i'm leaning on getting the Jestr tune now....
lwevert 01-27-2009, 04:39 PM I was going to head to Cobb in Dallas at the end Feb to get tuned, but after seeing the results Jestr is having I am going to wait until March to get tuned by JESTR. I will be florida for some training so I am going to zip down to orlando and get tuned. It is 6 hours from where I am going to be.
dcasandman 01-27-2009, 04:46 PM ^Ive seen jestrs result how are they differebt then Cobbs in Dallas? If I lived in florida jestr is a no brainer, but if I lived in texas Cobb would be a no brainer. There does not seem to be a difference in results.
Scooter 01-27-2009, 04:58 PM I cannot speak for COBB, but I had Jestr (John Estrada) tune my VIII and he did an awesome job. I'm sure COBB is just as good. They have a great rep. There is no "Magic tuner" that can break the laws of Physics. So there is a maximum to what ANY tuner can do. That being said I am going to get my self a COBB AP and run their map until I am comfortable with what other people are putting through the SST. Then I am going to add some mods and let Jester do a custom tune. This is a man TRUST with my car. All I can do is speak from personal experience.
The Things I like about Jestr:
He will give you a safe tune.
He will give you Power.
He will give you driveability.
He will give you EXCELLENT customer service.
And he does not have the Ego of the "Unmentionable One".

Extremely well said. I agree completely. I had Tim Bailey tune mine which is very respected as well. There is no super magic recipe. You can only change so much to get a max result. I hear jestr is really great a getting those results, so go to jestr and get a custom tune you will be happy I am sure. I also say do not get so caught up in looking at peak dyno results. The important things to look at is you gains from baseline.
racerX 01-27-2009, 07:00 PM I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth getting re-tuned. I wonder how much MORE power Jestr can give me over the speedcircuit mail-in Ecutek.
dcasandman 01-27-2009, 07:06 PM ^^^I think it will be worth it. I got almost 40 whp from a shelf map to custom map. I do not think you can beat a custom tune set up for your exact mods. Even if the peak HP is not that much how the car drives over all will be better. The power under the curve will be much smoother. I say get a custom tune. I would.

thanks for the input....Now I just have to wait a couple of weeks for him to come down to AWDMotorsports. Wish he came all the way down to like miami but west palm beach will do.
joshesevo22 01-27-2009, 08:19 PM So ive been a little confused lately.... Do i need to get a cobb AP then custom tune to get alot more horsepower?!? or can i just get a custom tune and make the same horsepower.
Or can i get a acutek flash from ivy and then let him do a custom tune to make more horsepower? well if thats the case then i might just buy cobb ap then let ivy do a custom tune....

The COBB AP is just the device that saves your maps (tunes) and allows you to change them yourself. The folks at COBB added very conservative safe maps in order for people to get something out of the car instantly. But there is nothing like a custom tune. This is where the tuner can actually see what your particular car is doing and tune it. Your Car, Your Mods, Your tune.
Also remember that cars are like snowflakes, no two are exactly alike. There are always small differences, manufacturing, break in period, modifications, etc. Each one of these individually won't make a large difference. But added together these differences can affect your individual tune. A good tuner will tune your car looking at all the data he has. Torque curves, data logger Air-Fuel Wideband, etc. to get you your best tune.
If you want you can get a tune WITHOUT the COBB AP. The tune is stored in the Car's computer. The COBB AP just let's you swap them at will.
joshesevo22 01-27-2009, 08:40 PM ^ ah ok thanks for the info!!
Kooldino 01-27-2009, 09:03 PM @RacerX - a good custom tune will generally get you more power than a mail-in tune. On top of that, you said you had one of my mild tunes right now, so it's a very safe and conservative tune.
If you're stuck in between wanting more power and not paying for a completely custom tune, I can offer to retune your car with a spicy or hot tune for a fraction of what the initial mail-in cost you. This should help bridge some of the gap your mild mail-in tune would have from a custom dyno tune. PM me if you're interested.
