BM's new 20th anniversary issue (next month) will finally feature the X-SST vs. X-5MT vs. STi:

And the X-SST vs. X-5MT:

Should be out in a few days!

So i see they finally finalized the SST?

I will be waiting for the video.

I wonder how the G37 stacks up against the evo and the STI. The g37 is supposed to be a better track car than the 335i.

They must have. The SST is tearing up the tarmac in the second pic (right car). Looks like the launch control is complete. :)

Haha, how did you know that isn't the 5MT? Liquid_Ag

I don't!
But, it doesn't have a keyhole, must be the technology upgrade.

Thats what I notice too...

ack, we will find out soon enough.

I really hope SST isn't slower than the 5MT in the straights.

I just hope one of the X's will be faster than the IX on Tsukuba.

That too, but JDM evo 9 is going to be hard to beat, well at least on paper.

It is lighter, has more power and has YAW, then again, it would be stupid for mitsubishi them to build the EVO 10 to be slower than the EVO 9.

no keyhole means GSR...the MR has fastkey and the button keyhole...so the one on the left would be SST...

i think will be a review everyone will be looking forward to. not only is it STi vs. EVO. but MR vs GSR. should be interesting.

Woohoo! I hope so! Makes more sense anyway... how would a flappy-paddle burn more rubber then a straight 5sp? That doesn't make much sense to me @_@

So any idea when this is going to be released for us to watch?

Are you sure about that? I thought they had a hidden lever to open the trunks or something?

13.6 isn't bad. That's only a couple of tenths off of the IX, IIRC. Certainly not as slow as the bellyachers say.

Yeah it's not looking too good for the X, but I can't think that Mitsu would make the car slower overall that would just be ridiculously stupid.

IIRC, the extra 200lbs (actually it's 150ish or so) we have over the JDM model comes from safety reinforcements and such.

Tvall13
11-28-2007, 02:17 AM
ugh.... might have to start looking for a used Elise

Kooldino
11-28-2007, 05:37 AM
Why? The elise is slower than the x.

Tvall13
11-28-2007, 08:18 PM
In what aspect is the elise slower? 0-60 is claimed at 4.9 by lotus, motor trend achieved a 0-60 time of 5.1 with a 13.5 @102.5 1/4 mile. .99g on the skidpad and I can't imagine that the evo x would be able to stop faster considering it weights nearly twice as much. Plus because of such light weight any slight addition to horsepower makes that much more of a difference.

Agree, the lotus elise is a dark horse !!!

Back to this upcoming comparo, I predict the winner will be either the IX or definitely the new Sti (if they have that car on hand)....

One more reason for me to seriously look at a new Sti instead of the 10.

Ok, well they're pretty much in the same ballpark then.

I dunno, the X stops really well. 60-0 in ~109 feet or so.

Plus because of such light weight any slight addition to horsepower makes that much more of a difference.

Yeah, but since it's a high strung N/A 4 banger, extracting any extra power out of it will be like squeezing water from a rock. Power mods will be much cheaper, easier, and more significant with the X.

Don't get me wrong, I <3 the elise, and even considered one myself, but it's just not a practical car. I'd drive it twice a week at best.

from what I have seen, and if I'm not mistaken:

the STI had a time of 1'05"95
the EvoX (not sure if it was SST or 5MT) had a time of 1'06"46

damn :(

I expected the Evo X to lose, but by a larger margin. The times posted above suggest that the Evo X had lost by a margin of only 0.5 seconds. We all know that the Evo X is much heavier than the STi and has lower Hp/ton, so this is a better-than-expected result from my perspective.

It's unfortunate, however, that the Evo X will lose its historical advantage of being "faster than STi on the track"

Would it be fair to guess that the Evo X graph above depicts the 5MT and not the SST? The curve does not have the smooth shifting nature that I'm guessing the SST might have (being dual clutch?).

The Evo X's dyno is impressive. The midrange response is superb, with a great powerband. This car has potential. I think a stripped and tuned X would be formidable at the track.

Even if the Evo X loses to the 9 or STI at the track, with some suspension tuning I think it will be pretty close on the track to what ever the Evo X is put up against.

According to those dynos, the X has twice the power at 3000rpm than the subaru. How can that be?

FLK

I'd like to see an Aspec STi's dyno graph. It should be completely different as redline is much higher.

So I guess mitsubishi DID try to make more power to offset the weight, they didn't make more power at PEAK, but has a damn flat power band. And we all know that the space under the curve is more important then peak power.

I understand that the Evo X comes with side airbags/curtain in addition to the dual front, the side safety features also add weight!! BUt might make for better insurance rates
