So how often is everyone changing their oil? I got 3k comming up on mine and I am not sure if I should do it every 3k or what (which I know is recomended). Not trying to be a cheap ass just woundering what you all are doing... Also what oil you using, just factory 5-30 Mobile 1??

they say every 5000. i do mine every 3000. i think it jst depends on how you drive

well technically they say synthetic oil is good for 15k miles and that the filter is actually what starts to break down.

Getting my oil changed tomorrow, just under the 3,000 mark.

Im giving Redline 5w30 a try

Current oil: AMSOIL 0W 30 (Signature Series). Next oil change: AMSOIL 10W 30 (Dominator)

Royal Purple 5W-30 every 3k miles.

Olive Oil.........Next ........EXTRA VIRGIN Olive Oil.

I'm actually hoping the weather is nice enough this weekend for me to get an oil change in.

Anyone try running 10w30? I thought I read somewhere that the Mivec system could have issues with 10w30? Anyone have experience with the 10w30?

wouldn't that just impact cold start? Interesting question though. I'm thinking of running 0-30 this next winter.

Just changed my oil the first time after 1000 just being anal. I filled with redline 5w-30. The next subsequent changes will be every 3000.

i was gonna try redline, but the guy who owns the shop I go to sells it and steered me away from it, and he sells it exclusively. Told me to go get RP or AMSoil. Said RL contantly needs to be level checked in their cars, like it burns up or evaporates.
Engine is running free and smooth with RP now.

Does the filter matter? I am trying to buy the filters in bulk to save money since I will be doing all my wrench time...

I've seen some posts by a vendor and OilDoc on evom indicating that the Mobil 1 (OEM) filters are good, but that the NAPA Gold filters are a step up. Dont know that for a fact though, and i dont have any direct experience.

Filter-wise I use the Ralliart Neodymium ones... a bit pricey but I like them. I use 5w-30 Mobil-1 every 4kish.

The maintenance manual recommends to change oil every 5000 miles or 3000 miles for severe maintenance schedule.

Hey guys, ive read somewhere in another Evo X forum few days back (cant remember where, maybe some other thread) saying Royal purple oil is damaging to the engine in the long run and they recommend AMSoil or Mobil 1, any truth in this? Btw saw some independent reviews saying that Rp (5w-30) oil does increase appr. 2.5%hp. Cheers.

I use Olive Oyl myself. I'm guessing nowhere near extra virgin... (Popeye came home drunk on spinach one night, some mild domestic abuse, then rough make-up sex...and there I just ruined popeye for everyone)

Does somebody use Motul 300V 5W-30??? In Russia Motul oil are very popular for cars like Evo.

i use motul 300v, 5w30, and i felt a big improvement over the stock oil. i read a lot about motul and it`s considered a very good oil. the biggest difrence it`s the temperature margin that motul oil has, it dosen`t become so hot when you race your car. by the way i change it every 5000 miles.

lower viscosity oil gives you better hp and mpg numbers but it can also potentially give you less engine protection. for dd I would stick with factory recommended 5w30 weight.

Normally, lower weight oils will give you higher HP numbers, but this isn't the case with the Eneos 0w-50 oil. It seems to flow much better than other heavy weight oils.

im with everyone else on this one no such thing as best oil it all depends on what your doing but if you don't want to do the research use the factory recommended mobile 1 5w-30.

There are only three fluids that any hardcore underground street racer uses in their engine. Here they are in order. These will give the most protection and horsepower.

#1. Astroglide Personal Lubricant
#2. Motomaster Anti-wear Hydraulic oil.
#3. Pure Ozonated Spring Water mixed with cornmeal.

The hardcore underground street race kings use a secret mix of the 3. Ratio is 60%/30%/70%

actually pure organic honey is the best. makes the turbo a little laggy but you will get like 100,000 more miles before your piston solenoids need to be recalibrated and your tourque converter box won't mess up the differential relay.

Actually this is pretty stupid, just put oil in the damn thing, the valve cover even has a mobil 1 sticker on it....so use that. If you are making crazy power then ask your tuner shop. Unless you like to waste money, run some pointless amsoil or royal purple. Try reading thru your Mitsu manual just once, there is some good info in there and what to use, they want your car to last at least to 36,000 miles under any condition. Or listen to some ppl on the internet and blow your car up, you wouldn't be the first or the last.

on topic, I've heard good things about amsoil, their SSO is good for daily driving (no track time) but some people still don't like it (on stock tunes). Amsoil's dominator oil is good for the track.

Honestly every third day some n00b joins and asks "what is the best oil" or "what is the best Intercooler?" or "what is the best transmission fluid"
If they took 10 seconds to use half a brain cell they could find the information quicker then waiting for someone to make a smart ass remark!

I have had my car for a 13 months now, and I have 5,300 miles on my car. I change the oil whenever the display tells me to, and I have changed it twice already. about every 2,000 miles I change it.
