: Transmission Clutch problems?

Hello guys I just bought the car last week and I am really dissapointed on the clutch/transmission. It only has 430mi and from the get go there is a problem getting the car into 1st and 2nd gear. The gears are extremely notchy and grind when trying to put it in. I have driven manual transmission for 8 years no so my driving is not the issue. The car is also still in brake in so I have yet to push it but I dont even want to if this is going to be happening. What could be the problem? This really bothers me and I just hope it will get fixed.

Do many people have this problem?
Are dealerships fixing the problem and how?

Any help would be great.

Regards

Gilbert

This is normal of these cars to do exactly what your stating. Give it time. Mine grinded for about 3000 mi or so then it seemed to smooth out. After about 5,000 mi i changed my manual transmission fluid as to get rid of all the metal particles that were flaking off when it was grinding so bad. I switched to Amsoil products and to be honest i couldnt be happier. My tranny shifts like butter now. Just give it some time and try your best not to grind. It should improve.

It gets better. Promise. the shift now are smooth and beautifull. I remember finding it annoying at first but eventually you'll just get used to it.

Although it defintly is worse when it is cold. So I always let the car warm up before i drive. in fact i keep the oil temp display up all the time, it's the only display i used. And i don't drive the car untill the oil temp is at least 1/2 way to the nominal value.

The car does it even if its at normal temps. I gues I'll just wait and see.

Im having the same trouble. I might take peoples advice and change the trans fluid but I want a dealership to tell me first that it is normal or not normal operation.

Mine has gotten progressively better as well. I now have 1600 kms (1100 miles or so) and once problem is completely better I plan on switching to Amsoil as well. My dealer confirmed it is normal and they even agreed to change the fluid for me free when the time comes... I have to buy the not so cheap fluid though...

she just needs some breakin in. Also after about 3-5k miles change the tranny fluid, it worked for me.

evo2be,

hey, i'm in the exactly same situation as you. i had my evo for 16 days with 417miles on it right now and from first to 2nd is a real Bltch. i was really scared it'll be a lemon. there are actually 2 threads already on this. one of them is below.

but it seems like the notchy/grindy-ness is part of. for me, i can avoid the grind if i shift slow. from what i read, its suppose to also help if you make sure the tranny warms up first.

On that "other Evo" forum, there is a guy who had his shifter cables replaced and I think some of the shifter bushings. It was all done under warranty. He said that so far it helps with the feel, but didn't eliminate the problem.
