its a very conservatice tune by sean ivey. he say he wont tune a car knowing that it will have problems. bascially he gave me the most hp gain and reliability on my car.

ivey is one of the few tuners ive seen raise the RPM limit to 8k....i wonder if there will be any long term effects from this...im sure the 4b11 is built strong enough to handle it butttt...

We tested the cars at 8k, road course, rally, more so than you would push yours, no adverse effects. Past experience with mitsubishi products and tuning since the 1990s was also something I relied upon in using the 8k redline.

Your car came in at 279 wheel hp with the HKS dropin filter. We finished up at 325 wheel HP with dropin and software only, decent gains.

Beat it and enjoy, as long as you don't misshift (1-2-1 etc) you will be fine. If you really really feel that for your driving style and comfort level you want it adjusted, then bring it in I will put it back to stock revlimit.

We have been racing mitsubishi before the evo came to America.
The stock rev limit is 7600, there is some margin built in from the factory.

Will it last for 100K like that, I think so, but we cannot be certain until we actually do it. Anything you do to increase the output of an internal combustion engine can potentially affect the longevity of the engine, but usually it is within an acceptable range.

On the older evos with the same 7600RPM limit from the factory we have cars over 50K miles driven with 8200 rev limits on stock engines.
Prior to that we used to run the eagle talons up to 8K plus on stock valvetrain......................

Experience helps alot in these matters, and also being able to tap into a large database of motorsport info through contacts inside and outside the US.

Don't worry you will make it to 250K Miles, these guys with the 8k RPM redline will stop short perhaps at 225K miles! :D

neng1987
03-22-2009, 11:03 PM
im pretty sure boost is around 23 to 25lb taperin down to 20. that would be my guess. and no boost pill added or remove. the car feels more like a muscle car since you dont get that rush at 4000rpm anymore due to have more torque and faster turbo spool

03-22-2009, 11:18 PM
ah ok, so basically using the factory boost control then? I just ask because i am trying to see if factory boost control is better than the mbc for tuning. I'm spiking 23.8 in my numbers with the mbc without pill.

neng1987
03-22-2009, 11:28 PM
yep. still using the factory boost control. i have read that alot of people are taking the mbc off due to some sort of problems.

joey
03-22-2009, 11:31 PM
i took mine off cause its just easier to tune and set the boost through the stock solenoid

rageagtm
03-23-2009, 12:02 AM
hmm, maybe i should pop the factory stuff back on and retune then.. blah. All pills still in on your guys?

Sean@IVEYTUNE
03-23-2009, 12:17 AM
With Ecutek we leave the pills in. It will hit 24psi and taper but works great.
