: GSR suspension upgrade

I assume that many people are planning on upgrading the GSR's suspension. Anyone planning on upgrading to the MR's suspension or are you thinking coilovers or other suspension mods? What are everybody's plans?

Found this on the eibach site:
http://eibach.com/cgi-bin/htmlos.exe/0123.3.3678306833000022002

Can't find the MR's Bilstein dampers though...

(Pardon any ignorance, I'm a modding newb.)

Very nice find on the Eibach springs. I will be getting an GSR and will be going with a coilover. Most likely Tein or JIC. I really like the Tein EDFC and I have had prior experience with Tein products. I cant say enough good things about them.

i'm goign to wait until Megan Racing puts out coilovers. they have pretty good reviews, and i'm not looking for an ultimate track set up just something that will improve the handling over the GSR's suspenion. plus there price is just right!

Not too big a fan of Megan Racing. I'll use the same suspension setup that I have on my current Evo VIII MR and that's the Bilstein PSS9 coilovers. They are a wonderful ride, height adjustable, 9 way damping adjustable and they are Bilstein, so they are rebuildable!

I agree KMXxBadboy, the Bilstein kits are amazing! Im hoping to release my own brand in the new year that will have optional air suspension

Didn't Evo X suspension's adjustable?

And I think Eibach, Bilstein, and Tein are good... Though the problems are the availability for EvoX made by them.

You say Eibach has made one coilovers for them?

The performance package on the NZ Evo X comes with Eibach springs
Bilstein Shocks standard. :) ;)

The MR in the US will also come standard with Eibach springs and Bilstein shock absorbers. A lot of the coilover makers out there are just too aggressive for US roads. I know Tein, HKS, Tanabe and other makers are out to create the ultimate track coilver setup for the Evo X, but I would prefer my ride to be much more compliant for a daily driver without sacrificing the handling that is inherent in the Evo X. This is why I will wait for the Bilstein PSS9 to come out. I have them now on my VIII MR and I love them. I can't justify getting a 64 way adjustable coilover even if it's cheaper. For me, cost effectiveness is not something that is primary on my list when looking for a coilover system that I like. The saying 'the best that money can buy' is often subjective to what the duty purpose of the car is. For a majority of us it will be a daily driver and as such a coilover that offers the best all around satisfaction is key. Your chiropracter will thank you later.

This is true, but i have to say i am a racer, so i dont care about the handling int the town, its the strip that i'm interested in!

I have Tein Flex coilovers on my Subaru and I must say they aren't very smooth on the streets. That being said, my friend has the Modified Mag Project STi w DMS coilovers and when I drive his car, it makes my car feel like a Caddy..

I'm going to put on lowering springs onto the GSR when I get it as I feel the two weak areas are the excessive bodyroll and the silly wheel/fender gap.
If the lowering springs don't make the car look right or feel right w the wheel/tire combo I have planned, I'll look for these PSS9s..

KMX how much are you expecting the Bilstein PSS9's to drop your ride height by?

Seriously? Please school me, but as long as your wheels do not hop or otherwise break traction, how does suspension affect straight drags on the strip?

Well I'm going to let him do the talking but I would think it comes from the idea the energy you're wasting moving in other directions...side to side front to back etc. etc. is energy you're not using to go straight....

This is true, you gotta have a good suspension if ya wanna transfer for the energy effectively. I would recommend a Eibach system if your planning on using the evo x on the road as well as the strip.

Bilstein PSS9... is that a whole coil over kit? sorry for the noobness but i got an 07 eclipse and im looking into the evo x and currently i just have my cower lowered on tanabe springs so im not sure how coilover setups go. of course you just bolt these on, adjust them to how you want and get an alignment right? but how do you know what way to adjust them? will the alignment shops do this for you?

im hopefully waiting for a system that is actively controlled. i know tanabe has one for the evo ix's cuz my friend has it and i like it cuz as you go faster, it stiffens up the suspension for more stability. do the Bilstein PSS9's have a system like that?

Lower ride height in a straight line will make for less weight transfer, and in accelerating forward will transfer less weight to the rear wheels; obviously better for FWD cars, not sure how it would pan out with AWD depending on torque distribution. It also improves stopping distances by decreasing weight transfer to the front of the car, allowing the rear brakes to be tuned to apply more pressure, and do more work to stop the car without locking the rear wheels to soon.

Other than that... suspension isn't important if you're going in a straight line... probably not even noticeable.

I've been looking online and haven't seen an explanation as to how the bilstein pss10 are fully adjustable from within the car?

I'm very interested in the idea of an upgraded suspension... smoother road driving but then better track performance. Can you explain how the pss10 is adjustable from within the car?

Doesn't the X come with a pretty good suspension setup in the first place? It's no set of aftermarket coilovers but it still feels better than the stock suspension I have experienced in many other vehicles.

I am going to Autox a bit this summer and will be able to at least speak first-hand to how well it handles stock on an actual track and not just the streets.
Personally I just don't see any advantages to lowering the car or changing the suspension when I know the stock setup will handle most corners like a pro.

:godance: Too bad we cannot get that here in the states. :( I have Eibach on my 1G and by far those are the best springs I've tried. I've heard good things about Bilstein BUT never used them. I rolled with koni adjustable's. If any brave soul tries them, post your opinion afterwards and let us know what you think. I won't see my Evo X until May.
