: How do you "crush" the stock blow off valve

Ive heard about people doing this, and ive heard it not only holds boost more, but it gives you the "swoosh" sound from an aftermarket bov.
Does anybody have a how-to . Or can someone who done it , tell me how i can do it.

Thank you:rock:

I don't think you can do this on ours...I know guys would do them with the old plastic ones back in the day.

Well you could do it with the 8's and 9's as I had my old 8 BOV crushed

yea.. you literally crush the top down about 1". it makes the spring stiffer. dont crush too far tough... maybe only 1/2 a inch. put it in a vice of some sort. and start pressing. I did it to mine.

sounds the same, just dosent "blow off" as long, its quicker, and hold boost better. for higher levels of boost. i also still re-routed back into the intake.

I've never heard this term before to tell you the truth. I get a "swoosh" now that I have a HKS panel filter in there..

people have been doing this for years, it all started in the DSM world.

The mitsu metal BOV's are kind of all over the place on how much boost they can hold. Some hold 26psi fine, some open at 24psi, etc etc

On good octane and higher boost I have personally seen 40whp/40wtq gains as the highest so far after "crushing" the OEM bov.

Just this last week I saw 20whp/20wtq gains on a 100oct BBK equipped Evo 9 after crushing the bov, no other changes.

You have to do it just right or you can get possible drivability issues.

I have yet to do this on a Evo 10.

It's only necessary if your bov spring is too weak and cannot hold boost. Mine is stock and I can hold boost with a Dom 2.0 at 28 psi from spool to redline.

So would getting a harder spring for your BOV have the same effect as crushing?

How are you liking the Dom? How miles on it so far?

How quick does it spool compared to stock?

It's great! I only have around 300 miles on it.

The spool is around 800 RPM laggier than stock, so it's a drag if you start from a roll in 1st gear. If you launch the car it doesn't really matter. I posted dyno sheets in this thread (http://www.evoxforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13203).

I have heard that crushing it wasn't necessary on the X's from what I've read. If you want better boost holding adjust the WGA a few turns or get a tune

the dsm guys ued to get a penny and put it on top and then put it in a vice and crank it down. Roadrace used to sell pre-crushed BOVs not sure of they still do.

I'm also wondering about this. At first, I didn't like the idea but now I'm kinda open to it.

makes perfect sense, but I wouldn't personally do it unless I had a back up

Kind of a dumb request, but does anyone have a pic of their crushed DV for a reference. Just see what a "good" crushed one looks like so I know how far to go.

I do not believe that a stock BOV can hit 30 psi without being crushed. You car may "hold" 30 psi, but that BOV is leaking at 30 psi.

It's so easy to do. Just do it! If you really want we can trade though.

I was kidding. To much hassle. I guess I'll just do it if my stocker doesnt hold.

sucked when I used to drive to my parents house on this hill, when i would boost up to get my speed up then ease off the pedal to start "saving gas" it'd flutter and jerk pretty bad. gotta love the high tension spring action

I am running 25-27psi just fine with the stock BOV, no crushing required. You really do have to just give it a try.

The stock BOV has been proven to leak at that pressure.

Please be careful giving advice to people. Unless you can Prove that your BOV is NOT leaking, you honestly don't know.

Heck, I had my car tuned to 28 psi just fine, with a massive boost leak. Car ran fine, tracked fine, drove fine. But an entire hose was partially off.

Stock BOV's leak at the 25+ psi range. Yes you can tune around it. Yes your car will run just fine. Yes you can push 25-27 psi just fine. Yes you are leaking air.
