So i recently built an a-pillar gauge pod much like talon's or td's i believe. All in all it came out great!
As of now, i have a prosport electronic boost gauge installed which is working out very well and definitely a steal for the price.
My question is, what other gauges do you guys find to be most informative?
I know AFR is clutch for engine tuning and maintaining a proper ratio when self tuning, but i wont be doing that for a while, still much to learn about it.
I will be doing some autocross in the very near future and was looking towards an oil temperature gauge. What do you guys think?

Most of my older cars I ran boost and A/F thats it.

Oil pressure gauge and boost is fairly common. Don't know about oil temperature though.

The three that I would run would be:
1) Boost
2) EGT
3) Oil Temp
I have oil pressure right now and its pretty useless. By the time you lose pressure, its probably already too late.

gotcha. i agree on the oil pressure. i've considered EGT but that seems kind of unnecessary these days. I mean, its good to know if you are running rich or lean, but an AFR gauge would be more accurate and probably more useful. Anyway, looks like ill go with oil temp...

for me, egt comes in handy at the track because if things go north of 900c, i know i gotta cool off a bit and pit my car...
AFR is definitely handy, but the way i see that is, the afr should be set by your tune... if it fluctuates outside of the parameters placed by your tune, then you have bigger problems at bay... you know what i mean? I have a wideband sensor, but I dont have it displaying 24/7 because im trusting my tuner has taken care of that for me....

did you weld in a thermocouple for the egt or what did you do?

I just tapped my manifold on the first runner (closest to passenger side on LHD car) furthest away. My gauges (and most egt ones) come with an egt sensor 1/8 NPT thread. Using a 1/8 27 NPT tap, I tapped a hole for the sensor.
Because my sensors was super long, I used one of the existing heat shield bolt studs, and tapped that. it created a nice riser and sensor fits perfectly.

nice. i think tapping the manifold is a bit much for me. not that i dont know how, i just dont want to lol. I want to preserve the stock manifold. I think i might go with an oil temp gauge and get an oil filter adapter for minimum fuss. thanks for the input antics. where do you track/autocross your X?

Nice! ive been thinkin about goin to SOW. I've decided to go to california speedway first for some autocross before i go to the track. Before i hit streets of willow im gonna try to get do an HPDE course.

What about a trans temp gauge? Seems useful if your at track and keep going rough on the gearbox.

For a casual trackable car, I'd run boost, egt, and I always feel comfortable with a wideband. It's never a bad idea to know afr's. You will know instantly if fuel pump isn't switching and afr's run lean, etc possibly saving the engine. Egt is a good idea for previously stated reasons. Oil pressure if you shut off as soon as the light hits will most of the time save the engine unless there is mechanical failure (had blown oil lines 3 times on my auto-x miata and never blew the engine because I caught it quick enough).
