yes, this is a US spec model, and they state what accounted for the 165 additional lbs from the JDM model

"There is a weight gain of about 165 pounds, mostly due to enhanced safety equipment in the form of standard side curtain airbags and a steel (as opposed to aluminum) rear bumper beam. We also get American-sized versions of the extremely supportive yet comfy Recaro sport seats. "

says: under 34,000. I am sure that's more speculation.....

If it's true the best part of this article is: "The MR's Bilstein shocks with Eibach springs (optional on GSR) noticeably improve both ride and handling." If it is an option I'm getting it on my GSR. I'm interested to know where they got this info from because the dealers haven't mentioned this as an option.

the models that come to the U.S. will be virtually the same as those in Japan. There is a weight gain of about 165 pounds, mostly due to enhanced safety equipment in the form of standard side curtain airbags and a steel (as opposed to aluminum) rear bumper beam. We also get American-sized versions of the extremely supportive yet comfy Recaro sport seats.

That's where the extra weight comes from.

Even the mitsu corporate reps said that the price would be sub 34K.

hmm..i was under the impression that the jdm also had all the airbags as well?

I was under the same impression. Though when you build your evo x on the japanese site there is an option with a picture of the airbags, this could be an option and not standard?

This shows the airbags at the bottom and they have all the ones we have.

It's probably optional.

Doh, that steel rear bumper must be crazy heavy. Wonder how the Alu. beam stacks up in a crash test vs. the steel. I'd like data on that.

Ditto.

And a price check, for that matter. :)

I wonder what this steel bumper is going to do for the weight distribution. Anyone know the jdm front/rear distribution?

Front:Rear weight distribution
Evo X 5MT: 59:41
Evo X SST: 60:40
Evo IX 6MT: 62:38

EvoXAddict, where in Upstate do you live?

It would "help out" a hair in making things closer to 50:50, but personally, i'd take the lighter weight.

I live in Binghamton. Thx for the distributions.
