This morning my dad ask me if he could use my car...I said ok
He came back everything was ok... we had a family lunch at my anty's house so to save some gas (and the planet :yay:) I decided to leave my car at home and go there with my parents...

When we came back my dad said : "hey your headlights were working and just turned off when I was near your car "I thought it was a Joke so...
Later I decide to go to meat some friends....now the problem starts !

The car doesn't wanna start I guess they highlights where working...WTF I did not used my car today and yesterday it was working well.

So I used some jumpers and ...it started...but now the real problem....
The headlights don't wanna shutt down.
Even if the ignition is in the OFF position, as soon as I plug the batery, the headlights stays on.

The DRL work normaly I mean when I start the car they are OFF then I move the handbrake and they turn ON. but these highlights stay ON !!! WTF !!

What's more ! The idle was taking more time to get down....

I used PCMScan to see any CEL but NONE ! I even tried to reflash it.... the Headlights stay ON !!! It idles fine now though.

Can someone help me !!! It just Fcked my weekend !!!! (sorry to say that) :hititsign::mad::wallbash:

Any ideas ? What could have been happening ?

You may pull the fuse for now untill you get it to the dealer.

are you sure your turning the right knob. sounds silly but its been simple things that mess people up.

I would seriously go with what evoxmrowner says, pull the fuse for now and take it to the dealer so that they can troubleshoot the issue.

Even if you leave your HIDs knob in the on position and you shut off your car and lock it they will turn off by themselves and turn back on once you turn the car back on.

This sounds like something strange, I have never heard of anyone else having this particular issue.

:+1: I just turn my car off and get out leaving the lights on and after a few seconds they are off. Which ones are staying on HID's or DRL's? Do you still have a panasonic battery?

Hi,
It's the HID , and yes I still got the panasonic battery.

So what I did this morning:
Took off the relay from the box in the engine compartiment.

So the headlights are off for now.

I tried to switch between the different relay (similar relay as the fog lights and some other things).
NOTHING HAPPEN ! Stays ON

I notice something using a multimeter:
On the evo X, you got power from the big connectors and the little one (from the right) even with the ignition off. SO the switch is on the negative side... (does it make sens?
Same thing for the fog lights and the DRL.

To double check what I'm saying , I took off the switch from the inside and the HID still on...

Still Got the problem.

The problem must come from between the switch and the relay, could be a part of the harness or something else. Since the switch works on the negative, maybe it jst melt somewhere and now just by touching any piece of metal, the headlights stay ON.

On monday I'm heading to the dealer !!! I'll let you know what happen....

Way to keep us informed!! Thanks. I can't wait to find out what it was. I like the precision details.

Might be the etacs ecu. it controls the lights and crap. i fried mine trying to turn my drls off and my headlights stayed on all the time like you say. i have a non sss car but it's probably the same setup on a sss car other then the sss uses a relay and the non sss uses a field effect transducer.

I thought the same.... I checked on the service manual and it basicaly goes from the switch to the ETACS Ecu then to the relay and finaly the HID.
I guess it might come from that since I can't figure how the harness would be the cause, I've been using the car as my daily drive for 9 months now.....

Do you know where the ETACS Ecu is ?
Is it compatible with any outlanders or is it only made for the evo specially ?

Thanks

Sounds like something a friend of mine has encountered on his X here in Singapore. Basically, I think your ETACs unit is faulty. Read the post and check with the stealership for warranty coverage.

Just in case you're too lazy to register and view.. Here's what it says:

I went to fix up the HID factory recall thing on 27-Jun for my X. It was a simple job and took only about 20 minutes. Everything was fine until Sunday night when I stopped my car but realised that the headlight was not shut off.

I did all I could but the HID just refused to shut down. So I called up the workshop and they asked me to drive down to the workshop when I could. I reached there at about 10pm (Sunday night that is..) and one of the guy was there to attend to me. While working on the problem, I found out that he was actually on MC but came down as the other guys were not available.. so pai seh..

He worked on my car for nearly 2 hours, plugging out the factory recall unit, plug out fuses, check wiring.. but still could not find the problem.

So no choice, drove back the next day for them to continue checking. They spent the next 3/4 day checking all sorts of things and still could not find the cause. In the end, the boss had to send the car to C&C to diagnose with their machine.

It took C&C, with the diagnostic machine 3 days to finally pinpoint the problem to an ETec unit located behind the steering wheel. They changed the unit (thank goodness it was under warranty as it costs $1k+..) for me.

I would like to the this opportunity to thank the workshop and the guys there. Not only did they try to solve my problem on late Sunday night but also sent the car to C&C (at their own costs) to fix the problem. They actually turned down a few customers on Monday to solve my problems.

Lesson learnt from this incident:
1. The X while not as complex as GTR, it is still very complicated electronically. A seemingly simple problem actually took so long to fix.
2. When you get your ride from PI, do make sure they have a reliable workshop to support any possible problem. So that even with warranty, they must have the means or at least contacts to fix the problem.
3. If things arn't broken, dun fix it... http://www.sgevoclub.com/images/smilies/icon_cry.gif

Sam, Thanks to you and your guys. http://www.sgevoclub.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

Its not fully fixed even until now though...

Yes & no bro.

Cos now everything works fine except highbeam. It doesn't work when the lights are not on. Meaning I cannot highbeam monkeys on the road in daytime.... can only HORN them... http://www.sgevoclub.com/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif

So u see, even C&C did not fix the problem properly and I gotta make another trip down to get them to fix it (since they said 'all repaired'.
