Is there a video of the testing? Where did you see these results as I can't seem to find any link through the original link.

How close were each of the cars? Are there lap times or total race times? I assume these were all JDM spec vehicles, not USDM spec? The racing characteristics for the STI will be different with the different engine and turbo. Any other differences between JDM and USDM STI's? We have been through the JDM versus USDM Evo X differences already (primarily extra weight, and trim levels and option packaged offered are different).

Great vid!

Man, that is one tight pack of cars. If you look at their best lap times, the difference between the fastest car's best lap and the slowest car's best lap is 1 second. Total spread for the entire race was under 6 seconds. IMO, the cars are all pretty much comparable on that track. And once people start modifying them, it's anyone's guess.

For as "slow" as some consider the X, it's right on the bumper of the JDM IX.

perhaps in the hands of the ordinary driver but I assume theyve got proper track drivers to handle the 5spd MT in this test.

Dont wanna use this as an excuse but i've read that the final SST programming just came out so the SST in that comparison was at a disadvantage. If you watch other videos related to the comparison you can see the drivers complaining about the SST not shifting and holding revs to long. Just something to think about.

I dont think so, from my understanding everything got the green light but than mitsu ran into a few bugs that they worked out and are using for the new MR's and X owners can go in and get the update from mitsu.

I'll be honest I tend to think best motoring has a little bit of biased optimism... and I find it hard to believe those results....How do I put this It just looks....Fixed honestly.


Edit: After watching the video....it seems that to me SST was not being shown we saw only one maybe two clips from the interior and both clips were when it was climbing in revs not in crucial moments where it would need to hold revs. After that alot of this seems to be poor line choice by the drivers to me I mean seriously they know that course like the back of there hand and they diliberately take a wide arcing line....???? Odd to me and certainly goes against the mentality of being a race car driver which is to shorten lap times.

So to each his own I think the X will just being a very...driver style performance car. Where it will only perform as good as the driver.

What I'm saying is they are biased to the old EVO IX.... All the Reviews including the American ones are praising the EVO X even acknowledge and have tested them together and have come out faster all of them (this is excluding that the IX is just a hair faster in straight line accelerator which they also all acknowledge) Granted the times are different the story was the same EVO X Faster in track and better then IX.

But with the driving I saw here in the Video neither X was driven the way the Magazines portray the EVOs handling.

12.9 is impressive for the Sti.

Lastly .. the guy who drove the new Sti is Tsuchiya .. He's very good and very competitive .. so in a way .. driver also play a part here ..

The Sti with its newer hatchback look is probably working because it gives the car an apparent advantage in handling .. and the weight disadvantage of the X's can been seen very clearly in the straight ..

07 owners who bought the 08 STI mentioned that it is slower than the 07...

Those owners are are using their speedos and country road to determine this. 08 speedos could be more accurate and they are comparing it to there stage 2 STIs. I read the post as well on the STI forums

If you look at the braking numbers and slalom numbers of new STI it's pretty impressive.

All this wait for the EVO and STI is BS! I test drove a 335i the other day and it was quite impressive. Might not be as fun on the track but the build quality was hard to overlook. If they don't release the pricing soon on either cars in Canada... I might just by an BMW.

I just watched the video. While the STI is definitely faster than the Evo X, I don't think the evo x driver launched the car right, I see him launching the car at 3k rpm, either that or he didn't even launch the car and just step on the gas pedal.

lol i remember that vid...im guessing the fast 7 time was due to the fact that it was up front the whole time and was never in congestion with the other cars, whereas the 9 and X in the recent vid were always in the middle / in some sort of traffic

I find this amusing... I thought they all drove fairly well. The X was a bit sloppy in some of those turns and in my opinion 6 seconds is a lot of time. Also the SST disadvantages were highlighted in this video... there was no control. While the SST will still give you full out straight line quickness it is not the best option for the track (imo).

As far as launches were concerned they we're not very spectacular at all. Nothing to write home about. I also think the powerband was much smoother in the STI. We will have to wait and see what other reviewers, like The Stig, test at.

Well.. had time today to digest the rest of the best motoring .. :)

After the race they had a racer's gathering and opinion .. of the 2 older cars .. all picked the Evo IX over the Sti for rawness and power .. and the handling ..

Of the 2 new cars .. it was a split .. 2 chose the Evo X for the refinement and handling qualities .. while 2 chose the Sti for its improvements .. Tsuchiya couldn't decide :D
