Okay, I searched around and did not find anything specific for the Evo X with regards to cleaning under the hood. I am wanting to find out if anyone has any suggestions like 'don't get this wet' or 'watch out for this one' when washing the engine bay. Some of my friends recommend using aluminum foil for electrical components to help keep water out and others recommend Saran wrapping.
So anyhow, I know not to use high pressure water and that Simple Green is a good solvent for cleaning things up. I will cover the open intake if installed, fuse box, oil stick, etc.
I have noticed every Evo on the lot at dealerships is utterly filthy due to the vent in the hood. So it seems this will be an item to add to the detail list every wash.

At the detail shop I used to work at, we would use plastic bags to cover electrical. If its not too dirty just wipe it down and blow it out with an air compressor (if you have one). If youre showing it off for a car show, you can spray a water based dressing and let it set after cleaning it.

Covering electrical is a must if using a pressure washer. If you think pressurized water can't push past weather pack pigtail connectors, you're mistaken.

IN REGARD TO CLEANING UNDER THE HOOD THERE ARE A FEW STEPS TO TAKE B4 JUST SPRAYING IT WITH THE HOSE. FIRST GET A GOOD ALL PURPOSE CLEANER LIKE P21S TAW, AND A BRUSH OF SOME KIND. I USE BOARS HAIR BRUSHES FROM DETAILERSDOMAIN.COM. COVER THE ALTERNATOR WITH A PLASTIC BAG AND COVER THE AIRFILTER WITH A PLASTIC BAG. MIST THE ENGINE BAY WITH A LITTLE WATER TO GET IT DAMP. SPRAY ON UR CLEANER AND BRUSH ALL SURFACES GENTLY. HOSE AGAIN WHEN COMPLETE AND TURN ON ENGINE TO DRY FOR ABOUT 3 MINS, AFTER REMOVING THE BAGS. SHOULD BE ALL SET FROM THERE. :D

Common sense goes a long way. The engine is designed to resist water. But that doesn't mean pressure washing the guts of the alternator or opening the fuse box and spraying inside it!

brand new car = simple wipe down
i would never touch the engine bay, electronics and water = trouble, all it takes is one wire to be exposed.
