You already know who one but still.....

I meant to say won not one
cksdayoff 12-26-2007, 02:20 PM And then there's this devastating blow: The Evo is simply faster around the track. Road test editor Scott Mortara's fastest lap in the Evo stops the hands at 57.6 seconds. The STI finishes exactly one second behind.
w000t~!!!
and this was the GSR model, not the SST monster :)
_Chris_ 12-26-2007, 02:27 PM The MR's 58.2-second lap time puts it just ahead of the STI, though it could have beat the GSR had our test vehicle not been plagued by a high-rpm hesitation. Mitsubishi claims to have already solved this problem and finalized the ECU software that has delayed the release of this MR...
Mistu still having problems with the MR? Then again, this MR they tested could have been a pre-production model.

i believe its the same ones that best motoring used at the tsukaba track which had overheating issues as well.
HRCboy 12-26-2007, 08:39 PM I always read these comparasion test with a grain of salt. Coming from motorcycle back ground when often 600 supersports are very close in performance and specs. You can read different magazines and they will all have different results. If you look closely often which bikes wins the comparison test usually coninsides which manufacture has bought the most advertising pages in that issue.
As with Motor Trend if you can clearly see Mistu Lancer ads all over the page. So guess who spent the more advertising dollars.
It be also interesting to see the STI vs EVO on a larger track with STI's extra speed and braking prowness.
Would love to see what settings they used for the STI as well. I'm sure you could correct the understeer with the AUTO minus setting or moving the torque bais 75% towards the rear with the DCCD setting.
I would put more weighting in more un-baised test like Best Motoring, 5th Gear and Top Gear. Can't wait till those comparasion test come out.
dmx88227 12-27-2007, 04:57 AM For round three of our title fight, we've also evaluated a preproduction 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer (http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2008/mitsubishi/lancer/index.html) Evolution MR. yes sir

+1
Though I am heartened that the GSR is performing so well despite the less hp and added weight. It is truly a magnificent vehicle! Then again, I like the STI, too. :)
soopah 12-27-2007, 05:19 AM You should post reviews in the Evo X News section, then we will see them on the front page of the forum!

Kooldino 12-27-2007, 06:15 AM Glad to see that the Evo came out on top.
The only real advantage the STi has is displacement and weight which end up giving it the edge in acceleration and braking. In all other tests, the X comes out on top.
That's not including the subjective tests of looks, where I think most people would clearly favor the Evo.
I was also happy to read:
All we know is it managed to squeeze out a 5.4-second 0-to-60-mph time, making it one of the slowest Evos we've ever tested.
This time around, our Evo is clearly in fighting condition, needing only 5.2 seconds to sprint to 60 and only 13.9 seconds for the quarter mile.
^The issue with the lack of power in the preproduction model got fixed.

magazine time is usually slower than real life time right? I would like to see 0-60 in 5.0 and 1/4 in 13.7.
That would be a nice upgrade over my old car!

I've already commented on the other thread.
Remember also, we the owners of these cars will be driving them on streets and roads, not tracks, it seems painfully obvious to me, this new Sti is superior here compared with the Evo 10.
In short, based on all the performance numbers we've seen, on any given day on any given street with equal driver skill/competence, stock vs stock the Sti will bash the Evo...
It will definitely become a priority to power up the Evo 10.

Usually, yeah. It mostly depends on the magazine, but generally some of us here will be able to outdrive the editors. A 13.7 shouldn't be out of the question in the right conditions with an excellent driver.
soopah 12-27-2007, 05:04 PM ^ We've now seen the STI come in at 4.7s and 4.8s and the Evo X come in at 5.2 and 5.4 in at least two different comparos. That is fast in my mind! Anything faster than 6.0s is fast to me! :) The STI definately takes the speed competition! Also, the WRX made it to 60 mph in 5.6s in the hands of MotorTrend (only 5.8s by Car and Driver and 5.9s by Edmunds.com), so this is fast, too! To me.
But of course, people want to compare and know what is faster, whether it is a drag or a road track. Cornering ability and speed through a corner are very very important at the track, and it is here that the Evo X seems to be in the lead without any driver expertise or dialling in of the control systems, unlike the STI. So it seems the STI could be dialled in better and get closer to the cornering ability of the Evo X, but for the average driver the Evo X should be safer and faster through the corners than the STI.
When I drove my Cooper S it was not the straight ahead speed that wowed you and made the car fun, it was the cornering speed, grip, handling, etc. So if that is what the editors of MotorTrend are reporting for the Evo X then I believe 'em!
I am waiting to hear back from my Japanese colleague about his experience test driving the Impreza WRX and Impreza WRX STI (whatever they call them in Japan) and to see what he thinks between the feel of the Evo X and the Imprezas. Of course, they would be JDM not USDM.
