: Mitsu hopes BMW & Audi buyers will look at new Evo

Mitsubishi is hoping that those rushing into BMW and Audi dealerships to pick up a new ‘08 model will take notice of the new redesigned 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. They would also like some more female shoppers to check out the new 295 horsepower (http://www.egmcartech.com/2007/12/24/mitsubishi-hopes-bmw-and-audi-buyers-will-look-at-new-evo/#) beast.
Mitsubishi believes that while Evo shoppers have always been mostly men and rally fans, the new refined Lance Evoution may be attractive to those luxury sedan (http://www.egmcartech.com/2007/12/24/mitsubishi-hopes-bmw-and-audi-buyers-will-look-at-new-evo/#) shoppers looking at a new 3-Series, A4, C-Class or G37.
Pricing for the base GSR model with a five-speed manual transmission (http://www.egmcartech.com/2007/12/24/mitsubishi-hopes-bmw-and-audi-buyers-will-look-at-new-evo/#) begins at $34,000. The range topping MR model with the new Twin Clutch-Sequential Sportshift Transmission begins at $39,000.
Officials say that these are conservative estimates at the moment and are hoping that the final pricing will come in $1,000 less for each model.
The new 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution GSR and MR are both powered by a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder 16-valve DOHC MIVEC engine that produces 295 horsepower and 300 ft-lbs. of torque (http://www.egmcartech.com/2007/12/24/mitsubishi-hopes-bmw-and-audi-buyers-will-look-at-new-evo/#).
cksdayoff 12-26-2007, 08:41 PM mitsubishi can't be that dumb.
Interior comfort is one of the biggest reasons people with money buy audis and bmws. Not only are these vehicles good performance wise but they also have the interiors to match with the pricing.
Lock & Load 12-26-2007, 08:55 PM Keep on dreaming Mitshubishi your cars dont come under the yuppie wanna be rich , my shit doesnt smell status as the BMW MERC, OR AUDI would be buyers .:uzi::uzi:
Most Females dont give a cracker as to the teck specs , and performance of your car they buy the badge and the pretty colour and status of the brand and i am afraid you have none of those attributes to offer them .
The only area you may be similar in is in your inflated price .
Cheers

billy blonco 12-27-2007, 12:24 AM Oh mitsu wants to play with the big boy's huh!!They better start with the service department. BMW offers full service for their cars brakes, wiper blades, oil changes loaner's. Audi and infiniti has good service also,if mitsu wants to compete they better take notes.

BMW has LOTS of experience at service that is true. LOTS. Heck they had my car for a good 28 days in a 6 month period for 5 different reasons. First name basis with my SA. Great stuff.:freak:
R_E_X 12-27-2007, 03:47 AM Man, Mitsubishi really outdid it this time... Even though some Imports can be better than European car
You can't make the Imports looks like BMW, Audis, or Merc...
Performance and comfort can't be put together, it just don't mix!
Jackygor 12-27-2007, 04:31 AM I think what Mitsubishi is trying to do with the evo x is to attract car enthusiasts who are looking at a new 3-Series, A4, C-Class or G37. Not so much the general public that are shopping for the badge.
edited: can't multi-task for shit :)
soopah 12-27-2007, 05:30 AM Like someone who is considering an M3 or 335ci coupe for the performance and the looks? I guess the Mitsu has improved the Evo X in this direction, but you are also right to say it has a long way to go both in interior appointments and refinement, and in after sales service. 5 years roadside assistance is a nice start.

That is very true and well said Michael.
P.S. inflated price dosn't apply to the lucky buggers in the U.S. :)

:+1:
If they were serious about it, they should have spent an extra $50 on interior trims so it doesn't look so cheap.

They can be, but just not for $34K.
gioco 12-29-2007, 06:14 AM I think, BMWs and Audis, just as well Mercedes' are the symbols of luxuriance all over the world. Mitshu can't exceed the sales of european traditional cars. These cars are developed!
Can you imagine an 60 year-old businessman to drive an Evo X instead of an BMW7 on an average work-day?
Of course I love Evos, but it can be maximum an hobby car, and not an family one!
I can't belive someone takes a baby-seat into an Evo!
Cheers

soopah 12-29-2007, 07:52 AM If I get a GSR it will at times have baby seats in the back. I'll send you a photo if I get one.
I don't think you see the potential of the Evo to upsell. It will happen to some degree. At MINI we had folks driving BMWs, Porsches and Audi TTs come in and trade down to a MINI Cooper S or a MINI Cooper Convertible.
gioco 12-29-2007, 08:28 AM I'm waiting for that fun pic.
Of course I see potential customers. It's true, it'll be an increase of selling for EvoX, but not so huge... Most of people won't change from TTs, SLK, A8/S8 BMW7 - maybe only from an older M3...
I'd like to see in Europe as well already an GSR all the same UK version will have lower power.
on2it 12-30-2007, 12:29 AM They are on the right track, certainly there has been huge improvements.
Unfortunatley it will be a brand thing that will stop MMC from breaking into that luxury market. The Mitsi brand just doesnt represent luxury, they may need to introduce another line brand that tries to do that. Ie like Toyota did for Lexus. Or Honda tried to do with Acura.
DSMissed 12-30-2007, 02:12 AM I've been shopping for an EVO for a couple years now. I found out about the X and what it has to offer and opted to wait on the EVO until I could purchase the X, so I bought an econobox with heated leather seats and a supercharger to do me until I could get an X...
BTW I am a girl, and I want a little luxury, of course....but I also want a car that has potential to blow the doors off at least 3/4ths of the cars on the road :)

also, there should be more girls like you around :)

get a 335i, you get luxury and performance.
i have come to terms with the reality that i'll be spending around 41 grand for a car with no inkling of luxury, all performance (MR with tech package) and I am completely fine with that...but until I have this car in my garage, the 335i is still an option at this point for me.

Indeed it is!! And thank you...

I have looked at Bmws, especially the 335, but I don't want rwd and all the awds are going for crazy prices....an 05 335xi with 60k miles goes for $22k around here...no thanks, I'll patiently wait for my X!
_Chris_ 12-30-2007, 02:42 PM Lets not forget that BMWs have higher resale value than http://www.evoxforums.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=693&stc=1&d=1199027495
Parnelli 01-01-2008, 01:14 AM I am a 40 something lawyer so I guess my demographics would make me an ideal BMW/Audi/Mercedes buyer. But I am also a speed addicted gearhead and I am seriously considering getting an Evo X. I agree it's not the perfect car for driving clients, but hey, it's a lot better than an Evo IX or a Lotus Elise. In fact, about the only other new car I am seriously considering is a Nissan GT-R, and that's even less practical for my baby seats (2 door, smaller rear seat)
DSMissed 01-01-2008, 02:21 AM I agree with that...I'd also consider something like a nice vette, but cars like that are so impractical when you have a family, which sucks.
_Chris_ 01-01-2008, 02:58 AM Im 30 something and I have 3 kids and one on the way. Im still getting an EVO X...
...and a GMC Acadia :)

:+1: with a 1 YO. 4 door X was ever only the option for me.
EVOXGSR 01-02-2008, 05:23 AM Well, I'm 26 and I am definitely buying an evo x over an evo 9 or the fugly sti hatch because of the styling, incredibly advanced awd system, and higher level of refinement. I've driven an sti for 3 1/2 years now, and I can't do the "boy racer" thing anymore. I've always envied the evo's handling prowess, and now I can have it in a package that seems more complete than ever. I don't have a problem with the added weight like a lot of other people seem to (especially on "evolutionm," those guys are such evo 9 fanboys), but I just wish that the car had a bit more power to offset it. Nothing outrageous, just like 320. But hell, an exhaust and a reflash ought to net 350+, so it's really not that big of a deal.
^I agree, to me the X is a tune away from the perfect car.
redmachine 01-02-2008, 02:13 PM reflash=void warranty though

EVOX GSR, you told my story and views almost to the teeth! Im also 26, choosing the X over the 9, am getting a bit old for the "boy racer" look, especially looking down the road (dont want to be 35 and still driving what looks like a fixed up rental car), and especially tired of the Evo M fanboys calling the X "the greatest automotive disapointment in history" because its a few tenths slower, especially since the trade is a bit more 'livability' as a DD for those who cant afford two cars. The only thing thats different is that ive been driving a celica for the past 11 years, not an STI.
on2it 01-05-2008, 05:34 AM especially tired of the Evo M fanboys calling the X "the greatest automotive disapointment in history" because its a few tenths slower
I might be slightly biased but I certainly think that its premature for those ' Evo M fanboys ' to be making statements like that.. give it 12 months for real world comparisons and modification reviews.. and they will be eating their words.. its not called the 'evolution' series for nothing..
Good choice going the X! :) I too disliked the boy racer look so the Evo X was a good option for me.

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forums but I had to comment this guy probably hit it right on the nose, at least in my case. I am looking to buy a new car in the near future and I am pretty much waiting to check out the EVO X, I was incredibly impressed with the specs and the new exterior look of the X. I just hope the inside is a step up from what Mitsubishi is know for.
I have been looking at the Nissan 350z, Infiniti g35 (g37 was a little to pricey hehe.), and the bmw 135. I wasn't at all impressed by the new WRX STi so i won't even go there.
Anyway I really hope the new EVO delivers. I am pretty excited to see what mitsubishi can dish up and for what price.
cksdayoff 01-05-2008, 10:26 PM the cars i am looking at are the audi tt 3.2, the newly designed audi a4, bmw 3 series and the g37.
but the evo x is still my #1 choice.

Good choices as well, Audi cars are a little pricey for my budget at the moment as well as the g37, we will see what happens though the price might drop substantially in the future, that I can haggle my way down to a reasonable price.

I can suggest you Audi TT/TTC - these are made in Hungary :))

Werewolf17 01-09-2008, 11:53 PM I agree. My cars range from 93 Ford Probe Gt, to 2002 Mustang GT, to 2007 mazda cx-7 to 2004 Trailblazer. I was looking at the A4, New Murano, Pathfinder and the Evo X.
I have recently narrowed it down the EVO X and the Pathfinder (as the A4 is way underpowered) and the Moron~O is just over-priced.
If you could take the Evo's motor and put it in the A4, you'd have a winner.
The BMW 135I is nice too, but its not all-wheel drive, so its not practical for winters in the Northeast US. I really like the Audi's but I've heard horror stories about their electrical systems, and I really can't see me going yuppy. Id rather get called a boy racer than a sell out.
