FULLERTON, Calif. (Jan. 2, 2008) – Yokohama tires are standard equipment on all trim levels of the all-new 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution (EVO), introduced during the recent Greater Los Angeles Auto Show. The ultra-high-performance Yokohama A13C tires in size 245/40R18 carry a 93Y load and speed rating and ride on 18 x 8.5 inch Enkei cast aluminum or BBS forged aluminum alloy wheels, depending on the model level.
“We’re pleased that Mitsubishi has chosen Yokohama for this important new vehicle,” said Jeff Carpenter, director, OE sales and marketing for Yokohama. “The Lancer EVO is a performance icon. Our relationship with Mitsubishi has never been stronger.”
The EVO brings together Mitsubishi’s rally-inspired technology and engineering in a series that went on sale in Japan 16 years ago. In addition to the state-of-the-art tire technology used in the Yokohama tires, the EVO comes with a 291-hp 2-liter turbocharged and intercooled engine and an all-wheel-control dynamic handling system to regulate drive torque at each wheel.
Yokohama Tire Corporation is the North American manufacturing and marketing arm of Tokyo, Japan-based Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., a global producer and distributor of premium tires since 1917. Servicing a network of more than 4,500 points of sale in the U.S.,

this is an awesome site that shows you which tires are awesome and which tires suck.
silvreclipse 01-03-2008, 02:29 AM good to know that some wont have to buy better tires as an upgrade.
AKYap 01-21-2008, 05:13 AM this may be a silly question, but are the Yokohamas that come standard all season?

You mean on the evo? I believe they are summer tires...

As with most tyre companies, they do have top end lines of tyres for performance. Yokohama's have been around for yonks in Japan and the south pacific probably since the 70s. I remember seeings old rusty signs of them when I was growing up then.
They are named after the town they started in 'Yokohama', Japan, currently they are supposed to be the worlds largest tyre manufacturer. They own the Advan and BF Goodrich brands as well, so you may know them under those names.
I have a mate that uses the Advan Sport V03.. no complaints there from him, so I'd say the evo factory tires are the best all round performance you can get unless you are going to be aiming for a specific application.
I have no complaints yet about the factory tyres, I have been pushing the car to test it and after 4000 kms I have only heard it squeal and loose traction a couple of times..(I know its a combination of awesome car systems and the tyres).. but I am really impressed with the overall package so much so that Im a bit worried that I will affect the current outstanding performance negatively if I play with new suspension and wheel packages

on2it 01-21-2008, 09:48 PM btw the package works so well, driving around corners I only managed 3 bars on each side ( like Chris's avatar). I wish I had a gtech meter to measure the G's..

nasty n8 01-23-2008, 02:30 AM if the advans on the X are anything like the advans that came on the IX you guys will be in for quite the treat. The traction with the advans is amazing!
On the negative side, the advans on my evo IX only lasted about 8k miles which is actually pretty normal for this type of tire. They also cost over $200 per tire.
The advans can absolutely NOT be used in the snow...or even cold weather. There is a warning sticker on the driver's door of each new vehicle that says the OEM tires are performance summer tires and should not be used in cold weather. Under cold conditions the tires harden and lose all of their grip, not good if you're driving like you would in warmer weather.
AKYap 01-24-2008, 04:34 PM Thats what i was afraid to hear. I am looking to get my evo in the next week or so and the weather report is calling for snow. Guess ill have to buy some winter tires...
Anyone know the bolt pattern? Also, do you think a 16" or 17" rim will clear the brakes?

I hate to tell you this but the 18" rims clear the brakes by like 1/4" so 18" or bigger is all that will fit.
