dragging the evo for a small community meet here in town on tues night. remove spare/quarter tank/etc ....anything else you guys can tip me with?I know RWD cars lower pressure in the rears for grip, but AWD seems to have no problem hooking, so if its warm would I run a high pressure for less rolling resistance? Any truth to the gravel diff setting being faster? Just looking to have fun, but I am betting on an all American muscle turnout, and would like to have a decent showing. oh yeah and I expect a bit of clutch slip, though I have launched it pretty well. what are your thoughts on powershifting this tranny, just a coupla times. new clutch is a future consideration anyways, and I am not racing with any kind of frequency. thanks.

def try to get a couple of passes in both modes. that way we can see what the outcome is

Yes since we're still waiting on the verdict about gravel/tarmac, please run in gravel mode first and then tarmac. Enjoy. And definitely remove the spare and carpet/board.

yes, i would also like to see the outcome of the gravel vs. tarmac settings....

I spoke with someone with an MR that tracks it pretty damn often and he stated gravel is much better for the road course. Putting it on gravel from tarmac gained him 2-3 secs in a lap. Helps with the traction so I would imagine it would also be better for drag. Help the car hook a bit better I guess.

what about pulling off the muffler for the day. little bit of gains/weight savings, and sound bad as hell while doing it!!!tell me what you think.

I was actually thinking of that but if you're going to be driving nonstop for like an hour then you might melt some plastic behind the license plate. I had mine off for a few days with no problem, but I don't do much long driving, just alot of stop and go traffic.

I ripped my rear seats out/trunk trim once. It's real easy. This time around I could do it in record timing. Seat belts were 6 bolts as well, but only like 7 pounds.

just take the spare out and call it good.

Every 100 LBS taken off the car will yield -.1 in 1/4

So no need to go nutz taking out floor matts and such

I don't know that the 100lbs=0.1 sec is definite or not, but I definitely agree that (for drag racing) unless you go big with weight reduction, you won't really notice the gains from it.

I've heard the 100lbs theory as well but have seen no concrete evidence to prove or disprove it

It will all depend on the weight of the car and how much you take out. Take 100 Lbs out of a Dodge Magnum and it will help a little. Take 100 Lbs out of the Lotus Elise and it will help more. the 100 Lb rule is a good rule of thumb, but there are too many variables to call it a hard and fast rule. Sometimes using the correct tire will help more than taking out 200 Lbs.

in a 800 HP car, I would imagine you wouldn't notice it alot. You already have serious power to overcome it. But in a lower powered car that may have a weight problem, I ca see where it would help. I am sure that there is someone out there that could come up with a formula that uses weight/hp/weight removed etc. If you take HPs/lb for what its worth, that can be a good indication as well.

Plus you have to look at suspension issues, Drivetrain issues, and a host of other crap. If you want to estimate, use common sense. If you want exact figures, go buy test equipment and try things out.
