Hello,

I have a few basic questions about buying a GSR.

1) With the new 2010 models coming out, should i wait for these to hit the stores before i try to buy an 08 or 09? How much do you figure id save?

2) Whats the best price before tax I can try and aim for on a GSR?

3) I have read on this forum stories about really thin paint, rust and such. How much is this an issue to Canadian cars? Are they the same paint thickness/quality control?

4) Overall, what problems are common and likely to see?

5) Does this car perform and hold up well in winter time? Start on cold days and such?

6) Do GSR's come with a sunroof? And if not, can you get one installed?

Thanks for your help, and if there is anything else I should know, feel free!

1) 2010 GSRs prolly coming out in Nov. of 2009
2) I'd do more research by visiting some of the threads...there's a lot of variables...timing, region, variables, options, etc...etc..etc...
3) Paint is crap. but as far as rust goes, not really an issue...from what i've been told, not sure if this is true but, canadian versions get extra rust protection by more under coating...
4) Problems as in reliabilty or build quality? if its reliability, there's not many. I had my 2003 evo viii for 2 years, put like 60k miles on it and it was bulletproof...had this current x for over a year now, no problems so far..
5)No problems what so ever with winter...at least for me. took it to tahoe a few times...i think i remember the outside temp was like 4 degrees F outside...Never had a prob starting it, even with an AMS small battery kit that i had on it at the time when i went snowboarding...
6)the 2010's might have the Sunroof option..not sure if its on the MR edition only...yes you can always get an aftermarket one installed...but i
don't recommend it...unless you take it to a really good shop that will guarantee the work/product (some places will warranty it up to like 7 years or more, you just gotta do your research on that one if you decide to go that route)
7)make sure you lube up, auto insurance will rape ur ass so hard you wont know what hit you...make sure you're prepared for this.
8) Provided you're not gay, you'll get lots of putang with an evo x (speaking from personal experience, hope my wife isn't reading this, lol j/k, honey?)
9) Stay away from modding it in anyway, shape or form. once you start, its worse than crack addiction...trust me on this one, i used to be a crack phene. looking on the bright side, modding my evo has cured me of drugs...only now, i wish i could go back to drugs...at least drugs is less expensive.
10) The SSS Package is ghey. The rockford system blows sterile donkies.

Thank you kindly for yours knowledge. Perhaps the poster above you could take some hints on being helpful.

On the GSR models, is it keyless entry AND start? There is no GSR's at the local dealers, they would have to ship one in. I looked at the spec sheet online and it was somewhat misleading by saying Keyless entry but no mention of the start up system.

Thanks again :)

I've dealt with many other threads and know this irritation. However, when searches on forums barely work, and many posts with different and conflicting answers; sometimes it's better to get a nice consolidated thread with people's views.

I've been dealing with a Mazda RX8 that has been nothing but an issue, and the last thing I want to do is get into another car I'm going to regret.

Sorry for bugging you, but clicking the thread is your own prerogative and you can't blame me if you do not see what you like.

One thing about that pricing, I've called tons of local dealers and it appears none are willing to deal at all. They all are trying to get MSRP for both 08's and 09's. (41k~ CDN).

Anyone know of a good dealer that is willing to... deal?

Thanks,

I hope so, $46k for a car is a lot of money to myself, and something I'd like to insure is a good purchase before I do. I've been comparing the WRX to the Evo trying to get an idea of which will be the better buy, but this is likely not the place, nor time to discuss that.

To some it may be the next Mc Donalds burger, but unfortunately I will be paying it off for years to come.

Red Deer, Alberta.

Ugh ya. I heard bad stories about the Red Deer dealership.

I know Edmonton doesn't have any GSR's either (last I checked) I originally went to get one but ended up getting an MR instead. They aren't very willing to wheel and deal around here. I ended up getting just a touch below MSRP with 0% financing (plus free winter tires).

Yea I got my GSR in the toronto area and I also found you can't get it much less than MRSP.

Also we don't have the same packages and options here in Canada as they do in the US.

Any idea what you can get off MSRP on the new 2009's? Seeing how the 2010's are around the corner.

Also, these cars do some with a block heater... correct? My Mazda Rx8 sure didn't, and boy does it suck in winter.

They don't come stock with a block heater but you can purchase one.

From the dealership?

And you sure there is no where I can get a discount or such? Seems hard to believe no where is willing to, in order to get a sale?

You wont get any discount on the 2009 since when a dealer has one its usually sold, they dont have them in stock....

Yeah short story a guy not far from here bought a MR back in April now he wants a GSR, he wanted to switch with mine but too complicated for me to get credit for a used one...

ahahah he just changed it to the dealer for a blue GSR 2009 that is from alberta but here in quebec.....they have good rate for the 2009......but try to find one is the problem, there is no MR 2009 so far in dealership only couple of GSR but none in Quebec

Even if i almost sold my GSR right now, i want a MR its impossible to get a 2009 right now....so i guess im gonna go and try to get a good deal on a 2008 MR........or buy the guy's black MR since it has same milleage than me and i would refinance the same amount than what i own on my GSR at the moment....

If they have to special order in a GSR you won't get much of a deal. I did get a bit off the MSRP but it wasn't anything special, the 0% finance and free winter tires made it an alright deal so that's why I went for it.

It all depends what kind of discount you're talking about... if it's a small one, yea sure maybe you'll get it. If it's a big one well I think you're shit out of luck.

Invoice appears to be 4.5k below MSRP, is 3k asking to much? Also, does Mitsu screw you on trade in's (like Toyota)?

Thanks again!

The dealership here in Edmonton was gonna give me 41k plus tax on a 09 GSR but I took an 08 used for their cost instead. They are also gonna get me a Cobb AP and told me if I do any mods I dont gotta worry about losing my warrenty.

I'd get that in writing! If they're sincere about that, that's awesome.
