Has anyone changed their transfer case fluid yet? Did you have to go to Mitsubishi for this since it involves bleeding the system.

wat.

I just changed the fluid.

If I understood it, only the ACD needs bleeding...

But now I'm confused, since the Service Manual does have instructions for bleeding the TCase...

How's the car running? Anything different? Anything affected? Any info is greatly appreaciated as I don't want to shell out $175 to Mitsubishi. And that's just for Transfer case service only.

It runs great, no problems at all. I changed Tranny fluid too and shifting is improved.

I'm a little concerned about bleeding as I see the "How to Bleed" in the service manual, but it doesn't say when to. As far as I can tell, it isn't required.

I just called up Iveytune, in NJ and he said there is no bleeding. Just a drain/fill. :godance:

To confirm any specalation anyone has about changing their transfer case. There is no bleeding process. The bleeding is for the ACD only. I changed the the gear drivetrain over the weekend and the car feels great as far driveability from before. Just to let anyone know when they are going to change the rear differential there are 2 drain plug. Be CAREFULL 1 is for the AYC and the other is for the differetial. It is labeled just read. It might be coverd with dirt or whatever you've driven thru.

I was confused for a bit on that also. Directions said bleeding procedure and I was like:confused:.
Mitsu could have made that a little clearer!

I have yet to do this.
I really should do this too. Any times Chris?
What fluid did you go with also?

I went with the Diaqueen. I bought a big jug, give me a shout if you want to grab a little bit from me. You only need <1 litre. Curtis will be doing the same at some point.

I have to do an oil change and tranny fluid change (I change it every 10,000km) So I will probably do the Transfer case at the same time. Just have to find a when... as Im working insane hours and my next 4 days off, I'll be in BC.

Rear Diff has 2 drain plug, be CAREFULL not to drain the ATF for the YAW control. The drain plugs are label. 1 will say ATF and the other GEAR OIL. The Gear oil is located toward the front of the car. The tool you will need is 3/8 hex allen driver. And the fill plug is right above the drain. Using a 17mm wrench.

Might be worth it rather then replacing the TC for $1900 later...

Could you PLEASE remove the Bleed instructions from your post, it has NOTHING to do with changing the Transfer Case oil and may be confusing people.

How do you drain and refill the rear diff and AYC?

Let's see things to drain and change:

-Transfer case
-Transmission
-ACD
-AYC
-Rear diff

Do we have an how to for all of the above?

 Read what? Take a look at the picture, the diagram for the TRANSFER OIL CHANGE is the same used in the BLEEDING procedure immediately following and nowhere does it specify that it's the ACD and NOT the TC that needs to be bled.

Ive never done a transfer case/rear diff. And this the first AWD car Iv ever owned. I was able to decipher the difference.

Maybe I'll add a warning to the post.

Diaqueen LSD gear oil for the transfer case and main part of the rear diff, and diamond ATF SPIII for the back part of the rear diff, I think they call it the tq transfer part.

I told the guys at Mitsu today that I'd be changing all the diff fluid next time I bring her in for an oil change, and they told me not to worry about it until 30,000 miles. I have almost 18k now. Think I should do it anyway?

Question. Do i need to change the tcase and diff oil before track event? I got about 16k my gsr and initially thought that the 15k service included a tcase and diff oil change but found that its not until 30K. i know some ppl still do it at 15

^I asked the main evo trans rebuilder (in the US) if he was planning on having an upgraded t-case in the future. He said he doesn't see a need, and just to make sure fluid is fresh when I'm tracking it. He never specified a frequency, but I set my own at every 15k miles. Hope that helps a little.

can someone please clarify a couple things for me, please.

for the rear axle, are both the differential and torque transfer drain and refill? no bleeding required?

is the reservoir in the trunk for the AYC and ACD? is the AYC related to the torque transfer?

do i do anything with the AYC/ACD? ever?

oh and last thing, what about the gaskets for the drain/fill plugs? i found a couple part number from another thread, what are the rest? also, i asked the dealership and they said we're suppose to use a liquid gasket which cost $67! anyone comment on that?

some one pleeease. thanks!
