Don't be scared, an Auto X is the perfect place to learn how to actually run your car. Have an instructor run with you the first few times you go.

i autox my MR and so does xMR all the time, we both have an aem intake, nisei uicp & intake pipe, custom oil catch tanks, and rear sway bars. if you dont autox your MR, why do you have it. its not fast in a straight line and there are better luxo cruisers out there. like trustcompany said its what the car was made for. do it! do it now! autoxing isnt that hard on the car, but tires for sure.

well, its not that hard on tires, you already have summer advans so im sure youre not expecting infinite wear. and you definitely have plenty of power already. really learning on the evo x mr is not great. the car will be too much for ya. stick with what you have. if you change anything make it the rear sway.

thatd be better for first time. your local club probably offers a school or at least you can learn a lot from instructors. dont miss out any longer. go to your next event and most importantly have fun!

Take lots of pictures and let us know how you did! Also keep track of how many cones you gobble up lol

The way you're going to hurt your car with autox:

- tires. You're going to wear them more
- cone scuffs. Yes the scuffs rub off typically, but if the car is dirty they will scratch the paint.
- popping your bumper out. If you hit a cone at 40+ mph, you might pop the bumper out above the wheels. It just pops back in.
- gravel. If the lot has a lot of gravel on it, you'll get scratches from the gravel being thrown up.
- clutch wear (on a non-mr). It's likely you'll wear your clutch faster with a stick. The MR is unknown at this point.

yeah, if youre real worried about cone scuffs put painter's tape over front corners and in front of rear wheels (most common places for cone strikes), but i got tired of that, i just apply more pressure to those areas when i wash the car and they come right out. and with awc i doubt youll lose control. i actually spun, i wonder how many other evo x's did. and i would have to say clutch wear isn't much, 4 minutes of total driving, and you do know that youre gonna use 2nd almost the entire time.

ive spun almost 90 degrees to the racing line but managed to recover it l somehow, lol AWC FTW. however i drove with the AWC single off. ASC full on just felt like i really couldnt push it in corners and throttle out like i wanted to. Turning it single off improved my time by about 3 seconds.

I was a bit scared too but really, just say F it, its only a car. It can all be fixed. In the end, nothing needed to be fixed! No cone scuffs no bumper damage, really good stuff. major fun too.

Only shitty thing that came out of it was the ~1000 miles it took off of my tires. The course had a number of fast sweepers so my right rear was pretty chewed up.

Also, i only shifted once, and that was off the line getting into 2nd. lol you really wont be shifting into 3rd or back to 1st. My rpms stayed from 3K to 7k the whole time, pegging the rev limiter once or twice.

DO IT!

yeah, maybe youll use 3rd for a second depending on the course

OP has an MR. Put it in super sport and let it shift for you.

And I've spun the X on r-comps multiple times. If you're not on the edge then you're not trying hard enough!

We're going to swing by to spectate in the AM, but have too much else to do to stick around or run. They're a nice group and I've heard decent things about this new lot.

I'm sure you have all there is to say but...
I just started Autoxing about 2 months ago and LOVE IT. Ive been lucky so far in the cone department...0 hits. From my experience tires and clutch should be your worst fear. I usually rev to 5k and launch but you could always be easier on your clutch. Im racing on the stock tires and they stick pretty well but they are starting to wear funky and cupping. In terms of stone chips...theres really no way to avoid them. I bought the rally armour mud flaps to help.

Oh yea and like people have said...depending on the course plan on some high revs in 2nd gear.
