: Works Short shifter
Just wondering who has experience with this product? Also if I were to get this should I get the shifter cable bushings and the console bushings?
What brand would you guys that have short shifters recommend and why? Thanks
TRUSTcompany9000 07-23-2009, 01:11 AM I would recommend getting the AMS or JNZTuning shifter bushings regardless... really smooths your shifts up a lot.
AMI CUSTOMS 07-23-2009, 06:44 AM TWM shifter, it is angled to the LHD and 30% reduced throw I believe, get bushings for sure.
Domo X 07-23-2009, 06:51 AM i think the agency power one reduces throw up to 35% vs stock
keep it comming guys....I would like to buy sometime in August. I would also like to know about the Cobb one, if anyone has used it
Ultimateone 07-24-2009, 04:26 AM I want an SSK also and most people on the forums recommend the TWM, what are our other options?
STItoEVOX 07-24-2009, 05:34 AM i have the works short shifter and ams underhood bushings and love it. definitely shortens up the throw and now feels like a performance car should.
BluesunsXIV 07-24-2009, 05:36 AM i have the works short shifter and ams underhood bushings and love it. definitely shortens up the throw and now feels like a performance car should.
:yeahthat: same setup, feels great!
ShomesomeSho 07-24-2009, 06:13 AM If I remember correctly, the Cobb shifter is the adjustable one, and also remember reading that even at its max adjustment its not even close to the others claiming 30%-35% reduced throw
NYC-X 07-24-2009, 11:15 AM I also have the works shifter with ams shifter bushings. It feels amazing but after I changed the tranny fluid to redline fluid it shifts like hot knife through butter. I also heard the ams motor mounts improve shifter feel at the expense of slight cabin vibration. I would also reccomend a weighted countersunk shift knob. I am sure you can't go wrong with any of the major manufacturers.
Sounds good. How are the under hood shifter bushings? Installation wise?
BluesunsXIV 07-24-2009, 02:22 PM had my friend do it so i couldnt tell u, it didnt take too long tho, and yea a weighted knob makes the throw even better
jmayevox 07-24-2009, 02:32 PM Yea we did my friends he took the cabin I took under the hood and took us about 30 min to do it not to bad at all.

Murlo26 07-24-2009, 03:03 PM I also have the Works short shifter, base bushings and with AMS underhood bushings. It does feel a lot better now, I'd recommend it.
However I still think the throw feels long, I think its just the way the Evo X is though, a longer throw. My RSX type S with Short throw was ridiculously short so that spoiled me I think.
Domo X 07-24-2009, 03:08 PM I also have the works shifter with ams shifter bushings. It feels amazing but after I changed the tranny fluid to redline fluid it shifts like hot knife through butter. What tranny fluid did you got with?
Domo X 07-24-2009, 03:29 PM Yea we did my friends he took the cabin I took under the hood and took us about 30 min to do it not to bad at all.
The did the underhood bushing in my car yesterday along withe base bushings and it took us about 20 mins for both but then again I had help from ken my next door neighbor
This was our first time doing this on an evo.
The day before that we put in an agency power front lower motor mount and that took about 10 minutes (15 if u include the underbody cover)
While playing with my gears I definitely noticed how much sharper and precise everthing is...I recommend to anyone changing out their base shifter bushings to change to a short shifter at this time.....it'll save u time...a weighted shift knob definitely helps overal shifter feel and function but I would also recomment one that feels good to you and offers good grip feel...if u have big hands like I do ( and fig feet as well lol) go with a larger shift knob. It'll add a touch of seksi to the mix...thhe only ting left for me to complete everyting (yea mon!) Is some good lubricaton I guess...
I'm prolly gonna go with royal purple or redline...
As for the comment on the cobb adj shifter....I too believe its not as short as the others but the upside is u have the adjustability.
Hope some of this was helpful :D
NYC-X 07-24-2009, 03:44 PM I used redline mtl because it was reccomended by my shop. I heard mt90 works as well.
-Evolved Boost- 07-24-2009, 03:58 PM Im gonna go with TWM short shifter and Works bushings all around.
Reason is TWM has proven that they make good products and tons of good feedback on the Evo short shifter. Going with Works cause there polyurethane instead of metal. I hear the metal ones sometimes won't let you shift into gear and may wear some surrounding parts cause it doesn't "give" as much as polyurethane. Also someone mentioned that metal shrinks with temp and since the polyurethane doesn't, that in the cold, the polyurethane will shift better.
dakoop 07-24-2009, 04:16 PM My works shifter came in a month ago. Birthday is Sunday so I can review it then.
Good stuff guys. I think that im pretty much set then.
tildeathdouswhat 07-24-2009, 10:56 PM I have the Works Short Shifter and Base Bushings and really like it. Too me the stock shifter feels sloppy, the Works cured this and shifts are much more precise. This mod + new tranny fluid (i used amsoil) is awesome and makes a big difference. But then again you cant go wrong with any brand of SS, they all make a noticable difference.
dakoop 07-27-2009, 01:09 PM Just installed my works short shifter. Thing feels awesome!
Domo X 07-27-2009, 01:41 PM I used redline mtl because it was reccomended by my shop. I heard mt90 works as well.
did you use all 3 quarts or almost? 2.9 pints?
stokEd 07-28-2009, 08:13 AM I have the WORKS SS and the WORKS shifter cable and console bushings. And I couldn't be happier with it, it really makes the car more fun to drive. It's a shame they don't come from the factory this way.

I just ordered this setup myself.
Clipse3GT 09-02-2009, 05:12 AM TWM SS and WORKS CONSOLE & TRANS bushings. Shifts excellent, though I am not to impressed with the AMSoil MTG. I prefer the Scot Grey mix from RRE. 2 qt Redline MTL and 1 qt. BG synchroshift. I will be switching to that combo in 30k miles.
Does this increase NVH at all in the cabin with the WORKS bushings?

Quite the opposite, very quiet no harshness. I would recommend these over the solid metal ones.

Thanks, that's exactly what I hoped to hear. I want to go with WORKS for all the bushings for that exact reason.
Rogue 09-10-2009, 03:47 PM I have the works Shifter and love it.. I had the works bushings and they were fine, I have since changed to AMS solid bushings for no good reason. =)

LOL
I had the WORKS SS, shifter cable & console bushings, and the counter weight shift knob on my IX...i imagine it's just as good for the X's.
mad_viii 09-10-2009, 07:14 PM If I remember correctly, the Cobb shifter is the adjustable one, and also remember reading that even at its max adjustment its not even close to the others claiming 30%-35% reduced throw
They went soft on the claims. I have the mode, same as the cobb, with the knob set at the same height as the stock shifter my throw is reduced by 25%. I would be willing to be the other would be far less than 30$ with the knob at stock height. Still room to reduce the throw even further If I wanted the knob lower than stock.
It's easy to reduce throw when you reduce the knob height. But that is less than ideal as your just putting it father away from your hand, which should be on the steering wheel till it's time to shift.
KARo7 10-12-2009, 04:01 PM i think the agency power one reduces throw up to 35% vs stock
Does anyone have the agency power short throw? wat do u guys think?
Domo X 10-12-2009, 04:05 PM Does anyone have the agency power short throw? wat do u guys think?
i have it, is prolly the most affordable of the bunch and works great, i'm pretty happy :D
they all generally work about the same prolly....the AP SS you is non adjustable....
I haven't changed out my MTF yet, however, i can only imagine how much smoother it might get...
NYC-X 10-12-2009, 04:50 PM I am running the works SS, with ams shifter bushings, and redline MTL and it shifts like butter baby. Oh and an ARC shift knob i gotta bling a little bit.
can you use the stock knob with these short shifters
Murlo26 10-12-2009, 05:04 PM I have the stock shift knob on my works, well its the upgraded one from OEM, but still OEM.
