: Car Wash Drying
saccolid 07-24-2009, 08:19 PM Here is the most random of random and I'm seeing if anyone here has had this happen. I have about 800 miles so far on my Evo X and obviously as we do with most new cars, we wash them a lot. I have unlimited at one of those full wash stations and one thing that happens is once the car hits the drying machine the one that comes over the roof I hear a really loud metal POP!
My best guess is that after the car has been running hot the blower pushes tons of air into the hood vent cooling off the metal shield making a pop. This is just some fanciful guess that I came up with.
After looking over every aspect of the car when the blower is going over there is nothing in contact with the car at all. Does that even sound possible?
GO ON 3 07-24-2009, 08:21 PM could it be the aluminum roof??
shikkaka 07-24-2009, 08:22 PM mine does that all the time, it's your evo breaking the sound barrier when it goes through the jet stream, true story ;)
DrasticK 07-24-2009, 08:22 PM could it be the aluminum roof??
This.
shikkaka 07-24-2009, 08:24 PM and what are you doing not hand drying your beautiful car hmm? in all seriousness those things always cause a ton of water spots because it doesn't get all the water off
+1 on the alum. roof, i've only gone through those things once and had the same thing happen it was definitely not the hood it was something above and behind me.
kidneythief13 07-24-2009, 08:26 PM May be the adjustable antenna or the side mirrors too. My driver's side mirror always pops in, at a certain car wash near me.

Thats why you bring a shammy with you:dancebanana: Thats what I do
saccolid 07-24-2009, 08:30 PM Ohh, you do get a ton of spots, but they hand dry it after the machine is done with it. I thought it was the sound barrier at one point too, and it could be the roof, I'm in Texas and the fact it is 96 right now is mercifully cool weather for what we are used to.
GO ON 3 07-24-2009, 08:33 PM Ya its messed up, Im from Canada and the weather is WAY WAY 2 cool for this time of year!
RedPickles 07-24-2009, 08:44 PM It's the roof for sure... It happened to me once. Now if i do go through one of those washes I just hold the ceiling up. You can feel it pushing back.
Evolution10GSR 07-24-2009, 08:47 PM it's the alluminum roof.

GO ON 3 07-24-2009, 09:59 PM LOL ya that is funny.. what ever happend to a good old scrub in the driveway??
scottatyamaha 07-25-2009, 01:58 AM My guess would be the roof popping also, but I could not tell you for sure because I would never take my car through one.
Revolution X 07-25-2009, 05:01 AM it might be the hood vent flaps popping as the blast of air hits 'em
weebles 07-25-2009, 06:06 AM +1 for hand drying :dancebanana:
bondoa6 02-28-2010, 12:59 PM I go thru touch less washes only, and only ones that doen't have any metal guides on the floor to whack my wheels...laserwash is a good one, Sheetz soemtimes has touchless too. When I say touchless, i means nothign but water hits the car, no brushes nothing.
Its the roof...scared the crap out of me the first time I heard it, and if you push up on the ceiling, you can feel it vibrate...

Stark Industries 11-28-2011, 03:33 PM johnwilson you suck.
jackburton 01-01-2012, 11:20 AM it does it on mine too. I always thought it was the antenna smacking the roof, but the aluminum roof makes sense.
Snakes709 01-01-2012, 11:54 AM kinda abit off topic but i dont know why anyone uses those automatic car washes. They do a horrible job and after one exploded on one of my other cars and the company refused to repair the damages (scratches) i swore ill never go through one again. Still dont know how the windshield didnt shatter when a metal bolt or something came flying at the glass.
Rheugel 01-27-2012, 07:44 PM It's the roof. I quit going and I just started washing it by hand all the time. That way it's clean the way I want it and half a**.
Evogina 02-15-2012, 02:43 PM hand wash, use a leaf blower then handdry the rest
