Beat out by the BWM 335i and the Charger SRT8. Not bad!

C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 5.0 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 13.4 sec
Street start, 5–60 mph: 6.6 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 13.8 sec @ 102 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 155 mph
Braking, 70–0 mph: 159 ft
Roadholding, 220-ft-dia skidpad: 0.97 g

And just for comparision, Car and Driver ran the new STI and got 0.93 g on the skidpad, 5.1 seconds through the 60-mph trap, and 13.6 seconds at the quarter-mile.

Awesome. I wonder how the MR would fair.

^^^wondering as well, from what I hear/seen the MR doesn't launch as well as the GSR but makes up for it down the strip.

^^^well its said that it will have a launch control that will make it launch hard off the line.

I am curious as to how that will work then? A "neutral gear" of sorts to allow reving before dropping it into 1st w/ the paddle shifters?

^^ Yes. The rumored 'secret launch control' mode.

what a shame for the Charger srt8, yeah for a 400hp plus those number should be a lambo beater. a 400plus evo will be in a 3sec plus 0 to 60 time.

Yeah but the Charger is a luxurious boat in the car world. In other words, its a fatty.

Mwahahaha, and it's 7-9k cheaper then the two cars that beat it. With that much money you could make it quicker then either one of those!

Cool! Although This must mean that the Sti picks up quite a bit at the top end.. seeing as it has a slower 0-100 but a better 1/4 mile time.

^Thats what I'm thinking. I also read that the STi is boosting 14.7, which sounds like a few pounds less than what the X is running, which isn't good news for the X.

It really depends how much boost the boxer engine can take. Time will tell, in the meanwhile Evo X is getting pretty nice gain from simple bolt-ons! :godance: (Kansai HKS evo x)

yes and also 0-100 times for 5 Spd MT different from stated everywhere else including MMC official times.. (which are slower at 5.2 or 5.4 secs depending on which articles you read)

but hey.. I like the faster times if its true.. I've said before mine stock feels like a 5 second or better car :) Ive just come back from a 2 week holiday.. boy I missed the X!! :)

Guess it will be similar the the Golf GTI DSG (which is the same concept). Turn TC off, select manual or "Sports" mode, place foot on brake and plant the accelerator. The ECU dials in 2850RPM until you let off the brake pedal at which time all hell breaks loose!

to launch the TC-SST model:

- select Super-Sport Mode
- step on both brake and gas
- rev up to 5000 rpm
- let go of brake

The STi will take 19psi all day every day w no complaints. Thats what I run. I have an 07 sti motor (w stock internals except for ARP studs) in my WRX w a conservative ECUTek tune pushing 310whp/320wtq on a Dyno Dynamics..

Its not surprising that the STi traps higher than the EVO w an extra 500cc of displacement..

Kooldino
01-06-2008, 05:47 PM
Yeah, I know that the newer STi sare good for 325whp on a stock turbo with a tune and just a few bolt ons.

yep. the ECU on both SST's and 5spd MT's have limited revs to 5000rpm for launching.

Hm...thought it was 5500 rpm for the 5MT and 5000 rpm for the SST, then again you own a 5MT so you gota be right.
Then why do people say that you can launch harder with the 5MT when the SST launches at the same RPM as the 5MT

I have to admit I havent tested past 5000 (only upto).. so it may go to 5500.. everything Ive read so far has said 5000.. theres so much mis-information out there.. so I wouldnt be surprised if you were right.

Sounds like the MR is going have a Trans brake.

As far as the standings are concerned I'd say the EVO tied the IS350 being faster the 1/4 but not in the 0-60.

In my country you can get 335 as an AWD sedan as well and according to the specs it does 0-60 a little bit faster (only 0.1 second though).

First off, I think the Evo should have taken 1st simply because its getting these numbers from an inline 4. The dodge needed over 3x's the CCs and 4 more cylinders to get it done. Also, the all-wheel drive 335 would have put it out of this competition as the price would reach beyond 40k. Still, no doubt a great car! They should have included the upcoming 135i in this competition. That car is going to be serious competitor on the road.

I find it funny how ppl are talking about the STI in here even though it wasn't in this competition (mainly due to price) I have read ppl saying that the STI hatchback is more practical than the Evo Sedan, which for the life of me can't figure out how. :wtfsign: That must be for ppl with no friends/kids. Putting 4 ppl in my car, each with their own door and having trunk space is a clear-cut winner for me every time. You can keep your over-priced hatchback (which BTW is ugly as sin)

For everyday drivers I think the EVO wins --even if the STI is half sec faster.http://www.evoxforums.com/forums/images/icons/icon10.gif

You can here too, I was just comparing with the one in the review. I'd actually really consider an AWD BMW if they weren't so crazy priced around here.

Over here both RWD and AWD are crazy priced, but the difference between them is not so big.
You guys get the best deal for cars on this planet, so enjoy it while it lasts. We have to pay at least twice as much as you do for the same cars. Evo is going to cost about 60K here and 335s are around $80k.

A slight used bmw 335i fully loaded... goes for around 49k in Canada. I have a feeling a fully loaded EVO and STI will be priced around the same. Since we've been waiting so long for the cars and prices to come out in Canada this leaves me to believe that we are not going to get any price breaks.

I test drove the 335i the other day... quite impressive. I might end up going this route if we have to wait any longer.
