: Stock x overboost problems

4,500 miles on it.
Perrin Inlet and HKS Drop in are only mods.

I installed a boost gauge about 2,000 miles ago, and while at it, turned the wastegate 2 turns (wastegate mod). Car was boosting 23psi on the DOT for 2,000 miles now. Yesterday, i noticed the boost gauge spiking 26 instead of the usual 23 spike. I immedeately let off and went to turn the wastegate DOWN 2 Turns to put it back to stock boost.

Still Spiking 26psi. What could it be?...stock wastegate took a dump?
Anyone have any ideas lmk.

I searched, but people who are having these problems are using MBC'S, Cobb ap's, and different boost solenoids. Car is basically bone stock. I reset the ecu, still spiking 26+ psi

Are you tuned? If not, then I believe your boos gauge may be reading slightly high, as ecu cutout on boost is at 25 pounds on a stock car.

^ no tune.

It started spiking 26psi Friday.
Saturday I turned wastegate down 2 clicks.
Still spikes 26.
Yesterday I turned it down another 1.5 turns.
Now I'm 1.5 turns below stock wastegate arm length.
Still 26 spike. ?

You would be going into limp mode, I believe that your boost gauge is reading incorrectly.

cut out is only after 1 full second. so he woul dhave to be holding the boost and a second is longer then you think when you holding boost like that.

im sure hes fine..

cr is just breaking in, things are getting tighter/looser as it ages and gets driven.

i say, crank your wastegate back, andrive it. dont worry about it till you throw a code. if you dont throw any codes, your fine.

and 26psi is fine on pump on a x in stock form with 9.0 AFR's

^ I'm gonna swap gauges to see what's goin on. Car was great spiking 23, but now I'm a bit skeptical on the 26 sometimes 27 spike untuned.

bump!!....just bought a BS sunpro 30psi gauge to try out. and it is the boost gauge thats shot.

sunpro = 20psi spike
PROSPORT = 25psi spike....

prosport gauge broke i guess..no biggie. thanks for the help guys!

You're fine IMO... My evo(only mod is drop-in K&N) spikes 26 for a split second and tapers to 23 and holds.. I'm using a Defi Blue racer series (electronic) and vaccum is off the FPR...I also thought the same thing as far as a defective guage or for that matter an inaccurate reading so I went and bought a cheapie sunpro from autozone (mechanical) and got the same reading. However, I didn't get the 26psi spike until after I had high altitude reflash done.
