: Hard to shift between gears?
felixfeng 08-11-2009, 09:42 PM My car is kind of hard to shift between gears, but when I drive for a long trip like one hour trip, it shifts much more smoother than the beginning. I installed the TWM short shifter, and I know I need to put more effort to shift, but I don't think that's the case since it shifts smoother after the long trip. Could anyone help me out? Is it the transmission problem? Thanks
dakoop 08-11-2009, 09:43 PM Almost all of the transmissions do this. Switching the fluid out helps a bunch. I used Redline.
jmayevox 08-11-2009, 09:46 PM I would invest in the AMS shifter bushings and underhood bushings along with there ss clutch cable.
felixfeng 08-11-2009, 09:55 PM I do have the twm shifter bushings. So it is not a serious transmission problem? cuz' I didn't need to put so much effort to shift in the past. Also, it happens no matter the weather is hot or cold. Sometimes, when the car in 3rd gear and I want to put it into N for the stop sign, I accidently put it into 4th gear since I need to use more power to pull.
felixfeng 08-12-2009, 01:07 AM I changed my fluid only 800 miles. I also discover that it is hard to push in and pull out from 1st, 3rd and 5th gear, but it is easy to push in and pull out from 2nd, 4th and reverse gear. What happen to my car???
djneilo 09-29-2009, 12:21 PM My car is the same, Usually 2nd gear sticks a little. Thought I was the only one!
SiliconTek 09-29-2009, 03:27 PM I drove 3 X's all from different lots and they all did it when cold. Service manager also said it was normal. Just baby it until it warms up. Some have had luck shifting at a specific RPM. I personally double clutch it until I get a few miles in to warm it up.
linste 09-30-2009, 12:56 AM yeah same here and its the main thing i want to address before i do any performance mods. i switched to a twm short shifter + weighted knob and twm console bushings. It helps alot with the notchiness in 2nd and 3rd gear. but it will not stop you from being locked out of 2nd. patience is key from my experience. but nonetheless it is inconsistent. you will still get locked out once in a while even if completely warmed up
felixfeng 09-30-2009, 07:23 AM It is really really hard to pull down the stick, but easy to push up. It seems lock in 1st, 3rd and 5th gears. It happens in few weeks after the dealership fixed the transmisson leak for me. I took my car back to the dealership 5 weeks ago, but they are still holding my car now and still can not identify the problem. I feel so sad..........I want to push the dealership harder, but I cann't since my car has some mods........
felixfeng 09-30-2009, 07:25 AM Will a front motor mount make it shift better???
I have the TWM shifter and the Works underhood bushings. While improved from stock, I still find fast shifting from 2nd to 3rd to be notchy, especially in the cold. No other gear issues, just 2nd to 3rd. Seems to hit a "knuckle" at 3rd. When I shift relaxed instead of fast, I can slip it into 3rd without the notch. Guess it's common from reading above.....
knifetheglitter 10-08-2009, 10:14 PM just did a search and found this thread. Got a brand new 2010 X with less than 700 miles on it and i think the shifting on this car sucks. seriously, why is shifting in the car like stirring a pot of stones?

DBL R 10-09-2009, 12:47 AM we installed shifter bushings on my friends 11 sec talon and it shifted great for awhile then started firming up and eventually stopped shifting all together. Come to find out, instead of greasing the bushings, we accidentally put lock tight on it.
felixfeng 10-11-2009, 03:31 AM Got back my car one week ago. The dealership couldn't identify the problem, all they did was adjustment. But the car became hard to shift again on the second day.........
cornercarver 10-11-2009, 03:58 AM That is just how shitsubishi makes trannys. Just get used to it there is nothing wrong. My VIII did it from the day I bought it to the day I lost it, despite all I tried to remedy it.
I had the blox roll stopper, amsoil in the entire drivetrain, counterweighted shift knob, and underhood shifter bushings. All helped a little. None completely elliminated the cold weather 1-2nd gear grind. Even when she was warmed up, she was still knotchy.
felixfeng 10-12-2009, 01:41 AM I find out that it is hard to push in and pull out from 1st, 3rd and 5th gears, but no problem with 2nd, 4th and reverse gears. My car was perfectly fine before. However, after I took it to dealership to fix the transmission leak and changed a new clutch in a performance shop, it becomes hard to shift in about one week. The dealership couldn't identify the transmission problem, so could the problem come from the new clutch?

same here lol. 750 miles. It seems to shift better when it's at like 5-6k lol or when you give it some gas or something before shifting. 2ng get's locked a little in the morning (cold) as mentioned above.
But as I said, i find it's to shift flawlessly under a lot of pressure (high rpm) and completely warmed up..
shifting warm car at 2.5-3.5 rpm is stirring stones as you said.
Excalibur 11-09-2009, 05:30 PM Switched to a forge front lower motor mount and shifting is alot better now. I also have royal purple fluid, but will be changing out to amsoil sometime.
