: Valve cover removal
elementalcode 08-16-2009, 05:29 PM hi i searched around but couldnt find a definite answer...
This weekened i wanna pop off my valve cover to paint it. Im not sure tho if its as simple as taking it off painting it and just screwing it back on. Will i have to worry about resealing it with a new gasket or should i be fine?
thanks
dakoop 08-16-2009, 05:31 PM Definitely get a new gasket. Why try to paint it yourself. Powder coating is cheap and permanent. jnz has a thread on it
meat_EVO 08-16-2009, 05:57 PM stock gasket worked fine on mine the 2nd time.. car only had 10k miles on it though.
Farred 08-16-2009, 06:16 PM my stock one was fine. 3200 miles on the car. it maybe cheap to powdercoat but you can wrinkle the stock one for about 8 bucks. a can of paint, sandpaper, tape and about 3 hours of your time.
COBALT-to-EVO 08-16-2009, 08:40 PM When you say stock one is fine do you mean re-using the stock one or buying an oem one to use for it?
Farred 08-16-2009, 08:49 PM i reused mine.
elementalcode 08-16-2009, 08:59 PM ight thanks alot guys just wasnt too sure since i read alot of mixed responses to that floating around. And as for getting it powder coated thats exactly what i plan on doing as theres a place that does powder coating relatively cheap a block away from me
Yeah the stock one is pretty damn good. Just reuse and call it good
ak47m203 08-17-2009, 01:28 AM ok how to remove it? any precaution or just straight thru....
Farred 08-17-2009, 01:42 AM easy as pie.

Kwiq Niss 08-17-2009, 02:06 AM pics....
Just lay everything out the way you took it out. Its real easy
lwevert 08-17-2009, 03:32 AM make sure you don't over tighten the bolts, they will snap off and that is a whole other problem. But it is pretty straight forward. Just take the spark coils out then the bolts and you done.
elementalcode 08-17-2009, 05:02 AM finished it relatively quick. Thanks alot on the imput and yea its easier than pie... just takes some common sense. Seriously if u can pour yourself a bowl of captain crunch u can bang this out no prob. biggest obstacle is waiting for paint to dry ( said F**k it to powder coating and picked up some black engine enamel from pep boys... came out pretty damn good. put that money in my ets dp fund ;)

bigmiketino 08-19-2009, 12:37 AM And u have to tighten from center out to edge
elementalcode 08-19-2009, 12:40 AM yea i did good looks tho. been driving it for couple days already no leakage
ltdanish07 08-30-2009, 11:53 PM 10x better then that plastic thingy. Where did you get the metal cover?
elementalcode 08-31-2009, 03:26 AM jnztuning
COBALT-to-EVO 08-31-2009, 04:08 AM Looks like you did a wire tuck? How hard was that?
elementalcode 09-02-2009, 04:46 PM All u do is remove the metal brackets that hold the cables. takes 3 mins to do. Wish i could completely tuck the cable away tho!
