: Revving issue
R6Evo 08-17-2009, 06:32 PM i dont know if anyone else has had this happen (or if there is already a thread, but hopefully not) but this is the first car ive driven where i have a problem revving the engine. so i looked up someone revving the x on youtube and nothing happened problem is when i do it the check engine light appers asc is turned off and the car with skid marks shows up. i hope it isnt anything but i thought id try to get some insight on it
hotdog 08-17-2009, 06:47 PM Pull the check engine code.
hollywood_X 08-17-2009, 06:54 PM Revving while stopped? Moving? In gear out of gear?
R6Evo 08-17-2009, 07:19 PM out of gear and stopped
Kooldino 08-17-2009, 08:03 PM Ok, so your car revs by itself when it's in neutral and stopped?
I'm thinking bad MAF...
What does the CEL say?
DVDee 08-19-2009, 01:54 PM It could be what Dino suggests pull the code first to get a better idea. If it's not what Dino said it could be bumper related, try switching that back to stock and see what it does. :innocent:;)
irmerm 08-19-2009, 02:33 PM maybe a clutch switch? is this with the clutch depressed?
DVDee 08-19-2009, 02:40 PM I don't think the clutch is depressed, but the maf problem does make sense.

true tru. The reason I was thinking clutch issue is because he said he was getting ASC Off in addition to the CEL. Maybe the car thinks it's moving, but sensor data is not matching so it throws multiple codes.

OP; I am trying to make sense of all this but what your describing sounds like limp mode. Hard driving causes an event to occur and now your car is parked off to the side of the road out of gear and revving to 2k+?
R6Evo 08-19-2009, 03:42 PM contrary to what many may believe i dont drive my car hard at all. it doesnt happen much just a few times over the past year. ill give an example. went with a few friends to get bubble tea. again not driven hard highest speed reached was 45 and higest rev before shift was 3500. arrived there got the tea went back outside and the car was about three months in my possesion. they wanted to hear what the exhaust sounds like because of i dont drive it like i should as they say. so i turned it back on let it sit for for like 5min then revved the engine to 6000 then 5500 then the asc turns off and i get the check engine light again and im like wtf so i get out and after im out of the car the engine started revving by itself (got to about 3500)so i turned it off. waited like 5-10min then turned it back on and the warning was off and asc was back on. 4 months go by and nothing since that day then im at a light and it starts revving again guy beside me looks over and takes off when the light changes. so basically it doesnt happen often but it still occurs.

i thought that the car is under the impression that its moving as well. im going to try to pull the code sometime this week as ive been busy recently.
hotdog 08-19-2009, 03:58 PM Holy hell, bubble tea isn't some sort of made up word.
Thanks, Google!
hollywood_X 08-19-2009, 04:55 PM What you described I am going to say you have an aftermarket intake, probably just a cone dry style or something correct? What your experiencing is your air flow limits putting you into limp mode.
Edit; BTW love that Chargespeed front
R6Evo 08-19-2009, 05:33 PM thanks a lot of people arent for the front end but in response to the intake i used to have one (injen to be specific) and it happened without and with both before it was on and after it was taken off

The first time it happened with the intake correct? The second time was after you removed it? Also this never happened before installing the intake right?
If you answered yes to these unplug the connector from your ECU, or unhook the positive side of your battery and hold your brakes down for 30 seconds then let it sit for 10 minutes. This should clear any saved logic from your ECU and keep it from happening again.
R6Evo 08-20-2009, 03:24 AM first time it happened the car was still stock then it happened with the intake on and again now that i removed it
boxtoevo? 08-20-2009, 06:02 PM You still might want to try the ECU trick Hollywood is reccomending. Could just be a glitch in the software.
That is not normal to just have your car rev when it wants. lol. (sorry that just sounds funny to me) *waiting for results*
Domo X 08-20-2009, 06:25 PM Just had some bubble tea hehe...anyway...jw...what kind of intake you're using?
My car has revved on me twice, but I never get any lights or anything. The first time, I started the car and it just revved itself to about 2500ish or so. The 2nd time, I was parked and it did a quick rev to about 1500. Maybe my car is ghost rider or its a transformer, but idk what it is. I've had the car for a year now and it just happened twice in the past 3 months.
MrPurpleEvo 08-20-2009, 07:02 PM I had that happen to me already...just make sure to check your MAF...just like Dino said on the first page....after that you should be okay..
DVDee 08-20-2009, 07:04 PM He stated he's not using an intake at the moment.
MrPurpleEvo 08-20-2009, 07:36 PM ^^ gotcha... Hmmmmmm...
R6Evo 08-23-2009, 10:50 PM well i spoke with someone today about this and they told me the engine is not burning the gas all the way and that is why it only states to check the engine while its on and after it is turned off and sits the message does not appear. he was not certain but he also said that the maf might be causing the revving. i guess that is two down only thing left to figure out is why the asc turns off
