Hi,

Looking for a new turbo - want to make the most power I can safely on std internals for a street car.

Which of the two turbos would you recommend and why - (they are now within 100 bucks of each other)

Comments appreciated guys

I say wait for this winter to see what shakes out with people (and tuners) fixing the bugs on there cars and trying to get the last few runs of the season in. Plus if you wait til the snow flies you can get some deals.

My biggest reason for going with the Dom 2.0 is spool. I want to retain the stock power band as much as possible and with the Red even with cams it looks like you lose about 300 rpm. 99% of my Xs life will be back and forth to work, so daily driving is important. You may get a little up top with the FPR, but the Dom will do enough for me. I have nothing negative to say about the FPR though. I also asked 3 respected shops, and all 3 recomemded the blouch saying it was more consistent. They did not state any real evidenced by though.

Think about if you just put down 390-420 whp you will be smoking fast with a solid power band.

From what I have read, the FPRED works well with E85, meth or race gas.... For standard fuel applications, everyone seems to give the thumbs up to the Blouch.

The 4g63 version is only 1600.... so it probably won't be that overly expensive.

I figure the X one will be a couple hundred more their turbot for the 4g63 has been around for a while so Im sure price has dropped alot.

Yea, I'm just saying it might be a tad more than other turbos... but not much... and for response like this thing will have... it'll be worth it. :shades:

I agree. I want all the parts on the site. Cams, Stroker, and turbo. They look like they are really taking their time and doing it right. He states their goal is to keep stock reliability.

And I believe them! I'm really excited for all their stuff to come out. They are taking their time and doing things right. And I'm sure if you wait a little bit after the stuff is released the prices will drop and it'll worth it even more.

Well there is never a perfect time to buy something, there will always be something better possibly available just around the corner. Right now if you want a streetable turbo the Dom 2 is the best bet and requires the least amount of supporting mods to get working well on pump gas. Take a look at Dave Buschur's Evo X to get a good idea of what a car can do with cams. 11's at 124 mph trap speeds is nothing to sneeze at on 93 pump gas and full weight!

The FP Red is touchy since it tends to want higher boost levels in order to get good HP numbers. From what I've read it has something to do with the Exhaust side backpressure in the combination that isn't overcome until you get to 30+ psi of boost. Usually that means more supporting mods be it E85 and a larger fueling system, Meth/water injection, or throwing in race gas all the time. There is no question that at higher boost levels this turbo can deliver serious power, it's just not as practical for a street setup though.

I really can't say much about the Tomei Turbo setup until it has been released and is tested on the Evo X.

The GT3076R Turbo I have from Garrett seems to make good power once you have all the supporting mods lined up. Basically the larger turbine housing is setup for higher flow so you need a well designed tubular manifold and O2 Downpipe to get the turbo to flow right. I'm managing 118-119 mph traps that are 4th gear limited without cams, once I add in cams and address the 4th gear limitation it will be closer to 125 mph traps. The GT3071R may be very similar to the Dom 2 as far as response and power delivery. Either of the Garrett turbos seem to really sing at around 25-27 psi, running lower without proper supporting mods just doesn't show their true potential.

Hope that helped!

you guys think mods;
1. stg 2 cams
2. tbe
3. intake
4. dom 2
5. upper & lower ic pipes
6. around 750 injectors
7. 255lph fuel pump
8. exhaust manifold
9. larger fmic
10. custom cobb ap tune
11. etc on supporting mods
will net around 500awhp?
or somewhere around 450?

Rogue

Still dependent on dyno and fuel... say 400-450

jmayevox

No I would say around 400 maybe or lower unless u use racegas or E85 or meth

depends which kind of gas you are using. with all those mods you could be near 450 depending on the tuner

if your going to run 25+psi with meth/water/100cot/110oct/e85 in any combination then go for the red.

if your planning on a nice daily driven pump tune, go with a dom.

Which suffers from boost surge the most;

FP red or Dom2??

Will in house porting make much difference to the Red for $95?? (what effect will the porting actually have?)

At 95 bucks, I'd have it done. That's a drop in the proverbial bucket.
