: MR release date delayed again
_Chris_ 01-09-2008, 05:07 PM Check post #37
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just got off the phone with the dealership. A mitsubishi rep informed them that the MR will now be released in APRIL vice FEB.
_Chris_ 01-09-2008, 05:23 PM The rep would'nt give much details but he says its due to "electronic issues".
UnctrldRage 01-09-2008, 05:31 PM Im not tu hurt by this the longer they delay it the more money I can save for a down payment plus the more faith I have in the bugs being worked out.
_Chris_ 01-09-2008, 05:37 PM Im not too hurt by this the longer they delay it the more money I can save for a down payment plus the more faith I have in the bugs being worked out.
Same here.
Kooldino 01-09-2008, 07:22 PM Hell, even if they have to take 6 months to perfect it, then you're better off waiting 6 months. For what you're paying for the thing, you'll want it right.
Makes me happy that Japan got theirs first to beta test. :)
wickedchimp 01-09-2008, 07:30 PM But they already have them in Japan??
UnctrldRage 01-09-2008, 07:43 PM The USDM is important for japan in the way GM is important in China...If GM doesnt do well in China then they dont have nearly the funding to release and design the line-up they're coming out with....Thats why GM while it broken Even in the US they made the bank in Europe ..
So if the Car doesnt sell here in America Mitsubishi will be whats the phrase im looking for...hanging by a thread.
LowUFO 01-09-2008, 08:28 PM After watching that Edmunds review, I'm starting to think I may switch my deposit to a GG GSR anyway...Then w the leftover dough I'd save from the MR, I can throw some coilovers, some 19x10 Advan RS rims in GG, some tint, and some powa..:evil laugh:

Think what'll happen if you shave off the 350-250 lbs extra it has and make it way as much as the EVO IX with the performance of the Evo X
:bowlol::drive:
^^^ Jap-spec bumper is like a 150lb weight saver, so i hear.
As for the delay, not to ceoncerned im looking for an 09. Im betting "electronics" is still sorting out the SST.
TriStateEvo 01-09-2008, 09:45 PM To answer some questions you might be having in regards to the delay on the MR: Mitsubishi has sent a small contingent of Evo X MR vehicles back to Germany (hence the sighting in Baltimore of a group of Evos that were Germany bound). The transmission manufacturer is doing a final once over on the TC-SST to make sure that it is done correctly for the US market. Japan values the US market greatly, but fears the backlash of presenting something that Canadians and MOSTLY Americans would give to the car if something were not to be set to go from the manufacturer.
I will have to disagree with the statement that if Mitsubishi were to lose the U.S. market that they would be 'hanging by a thread'. To back up my claim:
I have taken the liberty of removing sensetive information from the November sales report, but as you can clearly see, the North American segment (Which includes Canada, Mexico and the U.S.) is considerably less than the nation of Japan, which is a fraction of the size of even Mexico. The European market is almost double the North American market. The non-Japanese Asian market makes the North American Market look like a resident of Oz.
Not trying to crack on the North American market, as I do work for Mitsubishi Motors North America, but when you take things into perspective about who will make or break an auto manufacturer and you look at the global picture, losing North America won't leave anyone at MMC really 'hanging by a thread'.

Sorry, I didn't see a 'LOL' or a laughing smiley in your post.
If you meant to put one in, sorry.
But there is no way a rear bumper can have a difference of 150 pounds. Both the US spec and the Japanese spec cars use an aluminum rear crash beam now.
UnctrldRage 01-09-2008, 10:05 PM Okay so I was atleast half right in that the USDM market is important to Japan...
Sorry the claim I made about hanging by a thread was based on information that I should have noted was several years old when mitsubishi was struggling to stay in North America my bad....
But onto other things I'm glad they are dedicated into making sure this Transmission is right. Everyone can see the Success of the MR hinges on it.
cksdayoff 01-09-2008, 10:51 PM hopefully there is still a chance that mitsu will release the MR by mid March.

_Chris_ 01-10-2008, 02:31 AM Well, I know where some of my tax return will go.
_Chris_ 01-10-2008, 02:32 AM I wonder if the MR's complexity will bump the price over 40K
So just how does the canadian/Aspec X gain 200+ pounds if it has the same # of airbags & same materials used for bumper beams, compared to JDM?
_Chris_ 01-10-2008, 09:59 PM hopefully there is still a chance that mitsu will release the MR by mid March.
:+1:
Just talked to my dealer and they are still saying a build date of 1/15 and a ship date of 2/21 for my MR.
So who's right I wonder?

What are the rest of you hearing from your dealerships about the MR's release date?
Archangel621 02-06-2008, 02:16 AM I've heard early April from a few places in the Philly area.
Got a call from my dealer about a week ago with a new delivery date of March 12... (sigh)
cksdayoff 02-06-2008, 02:35 AM *fingers crossed* :drive:
LowUFO 02-06-2008, 03:22 AM I hope for your sakes, that my dealer doesn't know his arse from his elbow or maybe he's deliberately telling me porkie pies to make sure i don't change my mind back to an MR..Who knows..
When I found out that my MR was delayed plus all the rumblings about the SST not being able to handle more than stock power, I was seriously thinking about switching to a GSR.
Then I read the C&D EVO vs. STI article and I think it will be worth the wait.
Time will tell... :p
JDMEVOX 02-06-2008, 04:44 AM im waiting tooo ;]
verkion 02-06-2008, 07:38 AM Nothing has changed last I checked for the MR Premium I have my name against...mid-March hits the port, mid-April latest for delivery. Shrug.

GAmbrose 02-06-2008, 07:54 AM Looks like we're actually getting the SST cars in the UK slightly before you guys then, although they aren't called MR here.
Mine is due 1st-2nd week of march.

If that is true I see no reason why Mitsubishi Canada would delay SST for the Canadians, as if paying the premium isn't :ghey::ghey::ghey::ghey::ghey: enough.
GAmbrose 02-06-2008, 08:43 AM To be fair, the 'premium' price Canadians are paying is still significantly less than the UK prices when you compare exchange rates.

Ontologist 02-07-2008, 02:59 AM In Calgary they are still advising the MR to arrive in late Spring - and I haven't yet pulled my deposit...
Cheers

Hi Chris,
I contacted the ad manager for Mitsubishi East. Below is his response:
-Vincent, per the question below, the MR still requires some additional testing prior to being released, and because we do not know the results of the testing yet, it is difficult to provide a specific time as to when the veh will be available, however at this time we feel the vehicle should be available in May.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you,

dmx88227 02-10-2008, 04:11 PM thats kinda good news. i pretty much gave up on the Evo MR when i heard that and i been researching diffrent cars with the power of the evo for about the same price and i cant find any cars that even get close to the Evo so i might just wait it out maybe

The technology is not as great man but the price and power is there if you're really disinterested in the EVO MR but still want what it offer s to some degree Id mention under my breath a G8GT
PDXEvo 02-10-2008, 05:14 PM I just caught wind that the MR will most likely be pushed to next year. However, they are not advising to refund deposits or anything right now.

Whats your source?
Jackygor 02-10-2008, 06:04 PM Thats good new. From what i have read, which i will take as a grain of salt, a MR premium is available at a dealership for viewing in Edmonton somewhere, is it for sale? don't know. I phoned my dealership and asked if the MR got delayed even further, he doesn't know, but he has my car "on the computer, and it should arrived late March". *Shrug* May is not that bad, just not October :)
Ontologist 02-10-2008, 10:28 PM Hi - saw the dealer recently and they are truly unsure as to the status of the MR and its delivery schedule. They were advising me of a late Spring delivery date for a couple months, but when I asked for a firm date, they had nothing - couldn't even find my order for the MR premium in the system! Not sure what that is all about, but strikes me as business as usual at Mitsubishi (poor communications, poor quality information, keep the dealers in the dark).
It's freezing cold here (-30C plus windchill), snow, ice and awful road conditions could have made for some interesting test drives yesterday - but all the sales reps were so uptight, they wouldn't let their cars go onto the more interesting roads. Mitsubishi wouldn't let anyone test drive the EVO GSR - shame, it could have been the decisive test drive.
The STi felt very confident handling these conditions, whereas the 335xi didn't feel as controllable or at all like AWD though it is a spectacular car in every other respect (but the BMW sales reps need an attitude readjustment). Best was my friend's S4, but then he has specialty winter tires on it.
Still can't decide - but I'm leaning towards the Audi.
Cheers,

You should be able to test drive them soon, maybe next week? Isn't Mitsubishi doing a national wide promotion on the Evo X in Canada this month? If you still can't test drive it then, I wouldn't exactly call this a promotion... :tumbleweed:
edit: One more thing, I wonder why Mitsubishi announced pricing for the MR in Canada but not for the US?

Some MRs were brought to Canada for training the dealers, recall the pictures we saw much earlier of Evo's with ON plates in Toronto? There were some MRs with SST in that bunch, and maybe some of them have been sent to select dealers. I envision these Evo's being used for national test drive events, like on a smal auto-x course. MINI likes to do that kind of thing and I signed up for another one for the Clubman.
Got a call back from my dealer last Friday and the port delivery date for my MR had changed from March 12 to May 11 !!!!!!!!
No one I talked to seems to know the real reason for the MR delay and my inquiry was news to their district rep! I've had my depo down since Oct and I don't feel like waiting around much longer so I'm thinking about switching to a GSR instead.
BTW... called around yesterday to get some prices and here in CO the markups can be pretty high. One dealer wanted 41K for a GSR with SSS and nothing else

EVOXCO - Believe it or not - that quote was from Skyline! Where did you get yours?
How do you like the Rally Red? I'm thinking about that color or Graphite Grey if Phantom Black is too hard to get.

DirectorSe7en 02-15-2008, 07:03 AM It's annoying they're delaying it so much, but I guess it's better to have a finished car.
_Chris_ 02-16-2008, 03:00 AM Anyone heard anything new?
Crispy 02-16-2008, 05:21 AM Ok Guys,
Let me set the record straight. As of tonight, February 16th 2008, as I was sitting in my dealer's showroom hours ago, and the manager was on the phone to Mits headquarters, here is the "official" story...and don't blame the messenger (even if the message changes tomorrow...):
The MR will NOT be produced as a USDM 2008 model. The best predictions for LANDED cars are "late summer or early fall". Since they are so late they will be 2009 model year cars, perhaps released a little early for that model year, perhaps not. All I can do is relay the info I get in real time.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it...

GAmbrose 02-16-2008, 09:11 AM And here is some news from the UK.
I went in to sign all the paperwork for my Evo X GSR SST 300FQ (Essentially the same as the MR in the states) and I have now got a Stock number, Engine number and most importantly a Chassis number, the dealer confirmed I would have mine by mid March.
So what I don't really understand is why Mitsubishi UK have no problem supplying them still, but Mitsubishi USA do.

I don't want to speculate but I imagine it has something to do with certification or something along those lines. Anything to keep us guessing....

One more thing, Ralliart is supposed to be coming out late summer as a 09 model. I don't think it would would be beneficial to release the MR anytime before the Ralliart, because it could potentially hurt the sales of the MR.
ShahulX 02-17-2008, 08:52 PM well, froma PR standpoint they may just not want to start a panic... or have bad press on the SST.... so i see WHY they would say its not delayed... but I hope your right, I wouldnt mind a PB MR with nav :) ...i should sort ot my nissan mess soon enough
