I have an MR, was running Perrin's map...I heard via a friend who was just tuned at Ivey, that Perrin uses too much fuel, apparently dangerous for engine. I switched back to Cobb's....any thoughts? Car is Stage 1, with Perrin cat back...also any thoughts on using a drop in filter? Cobb says their stage 1 map is for stock intakes only....

too much fuel? i though the perrin map ran lean? (at least that's what i think i saw someone post that)
I dont think any OTS maps run lean.

that's what i thought, i think he meant rich
doesn't too much gas mean its running rich? or does he mean the map uses up too much gas to make it run lean?

Yeah, he meant that the Perrin map runs too lean. I was running Perrin stage 3 when I got tuned at Ivey, and he told me it was way too lean under 4k rpms. Not sure if it's the same way on a stage 1 map, but I assume it is because of the big torque increase you feel at lower RPMs compared to Cobb's maps. I would run a stock filter w/ either of the maps though for safety's sake. An HKS or K&N leans your a/f by about 0.5 or so according to my wideband.

heh so my suspicions were correct the first time around...
.5 might not sound like a lot, but when its borderline....that could be all the difference...of you know what...

Indeed. I have a wide band, but I never really noticed running lean at lower rpms, because I never really go WOT until I'm at an rpm where full boost is available( over 3.5k). You probably have to be more careful in an MR though, because you'd be giving it more gas at lower rpms in order to force a gear change. Just my thoughts...

Yes, you are right...I entered the details incorrectly...I have noticed the Perrin is better low RPM, the Cobb is better higher up...what do i do????????????
