Nice post, Jackygor!

I agree with the testers' personal preferences for the GSR (as I have from the start when I just started learning about the Evo X) and they have proven the MR to eek out the best lap times. If I could live with a small sedan I would probably go with the Evo X GSR in Canada.

Nice find plus good news supposedly!

*The Evo MR rides more comfortably than its GSR stablemate, yet clicks off superior lap times. And it offers more equipment than an Office Depot at a price that is projected to undercut the STI.*

Great article but it's the first I've seen that anyone expects an Evo MR to come in at LESS than US $36k. Maybe Mitsu just got a big settlement from the transmission vendor for the delays and is lowering the price of the MR accordingly....:-D

Very interesting information about MR! They said it is more refined! So i guess the GSR is a bit more frantic?

MR seems to be having the same problem as it did with the previous GSR where it loses power up top, so I expect it to be around the same speed as the GSR when it is in production. I wonder why the MR is faster than the GSR in Best Motoring?

I wonder why the STI can launch so much harder than the evo...

Can you imagine what the MR could do after they work out the bugs.

No, I'd rather do it myself in the GSR. All I want are the MR wheels. :drive:

ftw

this makes me laugh, looking back a few months ago when all the haters said:

- the evo would be way more $ than the 9 (it only went up about $500)

- the evo would be way slower than the 9 (while it is slower a bit, nothing drastic)

- that the sti would loose weight and thus, annihilate the X

looks like the evo X is still a winner

When TAS photos and pricing were posted on evom forums I've noticed most of the haters got stfu'ed. I love it.
Good thing this forum never really had that problem.

Don't forget that the MR has an extra gear, so that helps deliver more power to the ground.

That's because we're dedicated to the X, not previous evos. This is a MUCH better environment for X owners.

i would say im a fan of all evos...its just that im more of a "complete car" evo guy and not a "balls out performance" evo guy, and to me the X is a car more my style

I couldn't have put it better myself.

The problem with most of the evom guys is that they're so overly concerned with the .3 second quarter mile deficit that the X has that they can't look past it to see how the car is better in practically every other way.

They sound like a bunch of babies, it gets tiring listening to them whine in every single freakin' thread. Just because they have an opinion doesn't mean everyone needs to hear them. God, they are the biggest bunch of whining idiots!

i'm a big fan of STis and Evos. My dream car was an Evo 9 and that was what I was planning on getting, but my heart is set on the X.

As one journo put it previous EVOS were mere "replica rally cars" , i am glad to be getting a grown up , still fast refined Evo X MR :godance:

Hopefully all the bugs get ironed out from the TC SST , and Australia Mitsu revises the silly $ 75,000 asking price then :hititsign:

Cheers

I always had a feeling Mitsubishi wouldnt let the GSR outperform the MR from the factory....I believe because the MR has been made more civil then its previous Itneration of the EVO that always this car really needs is a little bit more of a diet....

Then ALL imperfections of the extra weight will be gone and so will the EVO X

I'm hoping you aussie owners get similar deals like us NZer's got.
base GSR = NZ$63000 and SST +$4000

(Cheaper than the evo 9)

Dont hold me to it but on road costs in OZ include .

Stamp duty on the price of car around 3 percent =Around $2000

1 year registration of car around $600.

Dealer delivery of car a total rip off usually $ 2000.

A GST Goods and services tax ............?

3rd party insurance

So its definetely way more than $ 400 NZ , i am trying to confirm these cost with my dealer .

The STI is more RWD based and the EVO is more 50/50 on the lunch so the STI will just launch harder.Maybe the STI doesn't have a rev launch limiter like the EVO.

...the MR sounds, I'd be a little leary of the TC SST. It is probably working at near its torque limits, there were reports of the tranny over-heating, and I bet that it might require some expensive maintenance. I know that the VW/Audi DSG needs about $400 bucks worth at 40k miles.

Anyhow it will be interesting to see how the SST holds up. Would much prefer a six speed manual and be done with it. Will be waiting to chekc out the Evo and determine if it can carry a roof rack with one Kayak.

I am not familiar with the laws in Australia, but at that price aren't you better off buying one in the US and shipping it overseas? I am sure that is can't cost 35K to box it up and float it over!
