With the news of Phantom Black becoming available as an option for the GSR, I'm very interested in getting my X in PB. There seems to be a lot of confusion over what Phantom Black looks like. Many people (including my dealer) seem to think the dark metallic gray/black is the Graphite Gray. I believe it is either Tarmac Black or Phantom Black because I have seen pictures of Gray cars that are slightly darker than Silver and look similar to the GG in the IX.

Does anyone have pictures that clearly show the difference between Graphite Gray and Phantom Black?

I always thought that Phantom Black, Tarmac, & Phantom Black Pearl (JDM) were all the same color, just named differently in different regions.:slaphead:

I've seen a Lancer in Tarmac black and it was basic black without any metallic flake at all. I thought Phantom black pearl which obviously has some metallic flake in it would be lighter, then GG would be lighter again.

Now im really confused.:wtfsign:

In the US, Tarmac Black is not an option on the X. It is, however, an option on the base Lancer.

Right. Tarmac black is a regular Lancer color. Phantom Black (Pearl) and Graphite Grey are EVO colors.

Well, Graphite is also available on regular lancers as well.

So to reiterate

US Evo X - Graphite Gray, Phantom Black
Overseas Evo X - Graphite Gray, Tarmac Black
US Base Lancer - Graphite Gray, Tarmac Black

So US and Canadian EVOs black is Phantom Black Pearl. But overseas they get Phantom Black Pearl too. Remember that guy in HK?

Was the HK guy definitely PB? Because on2it has Tarmac black.

I just know that what I listed for the US is correct.

I asked for phantom black. It wasn't available in NZ for the Evo X. Only Tarmac. No regrets with Tarmac though.

Tarmac Black is your basic black with a metallic flake

Phantom Black pearl looks more like a mix between graphite gray and tarmac black. It's black...but it's definitely not as dark as the tarmac black is.

I was able to get the Evo X brochure from the sales rep and the available colors in the US are

Phantom Black Pearl
Octane Blue Pearl (GSR only)
Rally Red Metallic
Apex Silver Metallic
Graphite Gray Pearl
Wicked White

Damn Confusing, all the different types of black. Not really a concern to me as I be getting mine in Red ( & don't ask me what red).

The color looks even better in person...in fact, the whole car does! I can't wait to start seeing these things on the road
