: Can't get this damn tranny out....
I'm in the middle of taking my transmission out to replace my clutch, but I'm stuck. The axles and first portion of the driveshaft are removed. Everything on the transmission is removed: starter, shifter cables, etc. The rear mount and side mount are removed. The transfercase is off and leaning between the subframe and the engine block.
Here is the problem. I'm trying very hard not to remove the subframe because i'd rather not deal with the steering rack. My TOB is stuck on pretty damn good. I've used screw drivers and prybars and the ****er still won't release. As for the actual transmission, can I lean it forward and then down to get it out of the engine bay again, without removing the subframe? Any help is appreciated.
Clipse3GT 09-25-2009, 01:55 PM Um it won't remove without releasing the TOB. Plain and simple. Use a bigger prybar or screw driver and some patience and it will come out.
drewgray 09-25-2009, 01:59 PM Once you get the TOB off, you will have to wiggle and jive to get that transmission out. It can be done, did mine. However, be warned, that bitch is heavy and you will curse the subframe the entire way. We had more trouble putting it back in around the subframe than taking it out.
Does the ACD need to be bled if the line was never disconnected?
hollywood_X 09-25-2009, 03:41 PM Its the TOB holding you up. Plus there is a sweet spot for the tranny to come off, you need to find the perfect height for the motor and tranny at the perfect angle to walk it off. Its not not the sub frame
drewgray 09-25-2009, 03:57 PM No, if you don't disconnect the line, the ACD does not need to be bled.
The TOB got so mangled up while we tried to get it out so I ended up unbolting the pressure plate through the pivot fork hole. Did some dancing with the tranny and it wouldn't come out. Took the side stud for the mount off the top of the tranny, which we forgot to do, and she practically fell out. Flywheel is going to the machine shop in the morning and we're going to try and have it back together by Sunday night.

Yeah, I completely and literally pulled it apart to get it off the pivot fork. I gotta figure out how to put the new one on. haha :duh:

Putting it back on you have to watch and make sure that the shaft don't knock the retaining ring out. If it does you have to take it apart and start over. I just had a pre session with the Tech and he was going over what all we have to do tomorrow and what the easiest way is. I hope to capture every little bit of info and make every move count.

I had to do the exact same thing...but it is a big relief when the tranny is out isn't it...
Stupid question, for me to put the new TOB on, I should remove the 10mm bolt on one side of the pivot and pull the fork shaft out?
EDIT: nvm, I got it.
So, its complete. Boy am I tired! lol And, very glad its over.
PROJEKX 09-27-2009, 08:35 AM FYI: Takes 2 - 3 people. hope your not tryin to do this on your own ;)

Two people to take it out. Three people to get trans and transfer case back on. Then two to put the rest of it back together. We worked on our backs and did NOT move the subframe an inch. Next time, if there is one lol, I'll lower it.

Just finished doing mine with the tech from the dealership, he stressed not lowering that sub frame. Its much easier knowing what you have to pull and what stepsto do it in. Im truying to get this write up done but just for getting the tranny in and out it took just a couple of hours and wasn't bad.
It very well could have been if we wouldn't have moved some things and left others.
