I would like to be the first to post here and thank Dino for giving us a little space on this forum. My wife and I are proud owners of 2 Evos. We love them both and find that though they have slightly different characters, they are both focused driving machines. And both my wife and I like driving both of them when the mood suits us.

Hopefully this section will grow and this forum can be a place where we can all admire each others cars and not be bickering over whether we are driving a CT9A or CZ4A.

HAHAHAHA. Mine did that until she got hers. When I first got my Evo in 2003 she had a BMW 325. I was always outrunning her and frankly I wasn't even driving real fast but she always had to struggle to keep up.

Then in 2007 we traded the BMW for a Mazdaspeed 3. Mostly becasue we needed a less expensive car that we could pile the miles on. She liked it but was scared of the torque steer. So she started asking to borrow my Evo, a lot.

Then we tested the X MR and I loved it but she loved it more. Here we are an Evo family.

My wife hates the car. Hates it so much she drove me to Porsche Dealer and told me to pick out what I wanted. She did not give a shit lol. She at least admits it gets a lot of attention, but not all of it is positive. She will constantly show me listings on cars she knows I really want. It drives her up the wall that I keep building and messing with. I am also in the same boat as trust with the forum. She hates this site, and does not understand how I can look at the same shit over and over again.

As to the better driver, right now it is me. I have been doing AutoX for about 6 years and Ana has only started it this year. In a few years I'll bet she will catch up in skill as soon as she gets over her fears.

One of the things she is dealing with is that she doesn't want to damage her car. She has yet to cut loose. Cars can be fixed. The funny thing is when we used to go to those GM test drive events and the Mazda Rev It Up events she would go nuts!! I'd ask her "What the hell happened to you?" and she'd answer "It's not my car." The Vr4's/Twin Turbo's are fantastic stock (It actually holds a Lot better around long cornors at speed then my VIII) but ive never done auto x or anything with it.
The basic suspension stuff is less expensive then an Evo actually, and in most cases a set of K-sport coilovers gets you by just fine unless you do some serious Auto X

I feel like your making that comment either from 1) Being in an FWD N/A or 2) Assuming it sucks because it weighs 2 tons, and not from actual expirience driving/being passenger in one. My 19 year old 125k mile TT handles better then a quite a few other cars ive had a chance to drive (not trying to appear defensive, just informative)

Really? That's interesting to hear. What kind of tires do you have on the VIII. And have you compared speeds on sweepers or is it just the Butt G-tech? The fact that the Stealth is lower may give you a false impression... or not. I'm not disputing as I have not driven a stealth myself... Just trying to find out if it is your impression or if you have measured it in some way.

As for AutoX, I think the Evo will do better due to it's lighter weight. You'll get better transitional response from the car going through all the slalomns and tight corners. Of course I could be wrong.

I Agree on the Evo being better for AutoX, however not due to weight, mostly because the steering response is Much better. The Stealths' are pig heavy but are Very easy to drop weight (Hood, exhaust, Rims, changing to Manual Seats can shed over 100 lbs).

Cant remember what i was running on the Evo, but they were summer tires, not all seasons. They were the same price area/quality area as the Avon's i have on the stealth though. its not exactly Butt-G Tech, but i know on sweeping 180-270 degree off ramps/corners in general, i can take them at around 85 mph in the stealth and there is still no feeling of body roll and i am in complete control, while in the Evo those same corners at 60 or so is where i begin to feel control slipping (Oh yeah, the stealth has all wheel steering)

Well, 100 lbs will help, but on a car as heavy as a Stealth that's not going to be a huge improvement. And the right tire will really help. When I switched to the Dunlop Direzza Star Specs from the Falken RT650s I felt a huge improvement. And those two tires are in the same class. Summer tires are definitely not all the same. There is a pretty tight cloverleaf near my house that I regularly do 65 around. It is definitely not what I would call a sweeper. It's pretty tight.

All that said, the 4WS on the Stealth is a very nice feature that gives some great high speed handling characteristics. I would love to see the Stealth run a road course. I think that would be it's forte.

On the subject of the Stealths and 3KGTs. I have spent lots of seat time in a modded 99 VR-4. Great cars. It is also a very wide car to fit through those tight slaloms and transitions. I autoX a modded Toyota Spyder and even though it doesn't have the grunt or the contact patch of the 3KGT I am much thinner and don't need to do as much work to get between those gates. That and weighing in at 1950lbs helps too. :)

its nice to have intelligent conversation with someone for once instead of useless bantering.

Im hoping to get a set of good summer tires come april (and rims too, want to put the BBS's on the stealth, they are 8 lbs lighter apiece then the stockers, and since the mits dealer put the wrong size tire on the Evo before i bought it, they are the right size for the stealth[245/45])

Hopefully once i get into a house, ill be able to start a stealth project. for now any mods would be weight reduction and an MBC (have a hallman, dunno if i want it in the evo or sealth yet)

Dino and the mods do a great job of weeding out the lowlife. And I see no reason to insult people just to show who has a bigger set of cojones. On top of that, I liked the 3000/Stealth line but could not afford them at the time. And now I'm hooked on the Evos and AutoX/Track days. So there is no reason to hate.

As for tires, I suggest either the Dunlop Direzza Star Specs or the Bridgestone Potenza RE-11s for the absolute maximum performance. The Advan AD08s I have never tried nor has anyone at our AutoX used them (too pricey) but hear really good things about. The Direzzas will be your best "bang for the buck tire".

Currently I run 245/45-17s on my Evo VIII with no clearance problems and I am lowered on KW3 coilovers so you can fit those on the Evo if you want to go STU in AutoX (or on the street). Since I recently put in a new intercooler I got bumped up to BSP, so I'm looking to get a set BFG R-1s... Not the best for AutoX, but I also want to run some track days and this would be the best low cost compromise. (I am NOT rich). As it is on street tires I was only 1.5 seconds off the leader in BSP at the last AutoX so we'll see what happens.

And put the Hallman on whatever car you want to start modding first. Heck for $99 just get another one. That is NOT an expensive mod.

"Bang for the buck" sounds good to me, as it sits ill prolly have to save up for a few weeks in order to buy them, if i do start doing auto x (have to find spots in the area)

Maybe ill keep the 245/45's then, i was worried they would rub when i picked up the stage 1 suspension package from AMS

Im hoping to get a set of good summer tires come april (and rims too, want to put the BBS's on the stealth, they are 8 lbs lighter apiece then the stockers, and since the mits dealer put the wrong size tire on the Evo before i bought it, they are the right size for the stealth[245/45])

You may want to test fit the evo bbs wheels before getting to optimistic. The hub bore was smaller on the evo wheels I tried putting on a vr4 3000gt.

If you count my son, we actually have 3 in the family. I like the rear spoiler... subtle.

Thanks, we think so.

As to the better driver, right now it is me. I have been doing AutoX for about 6 years and Ana has only started it this year. In a few years I'll bet she will catch up in skill as soon as she gets over her fears.

:omg:
And now after begging for years he got his soon into it. :innocent:
And i am glad because Its great to have a Family of Evos out and about and doing things together.

As for joining the little section of the Internet I can only say its been a pleasure and a great one to be over hear. Also having the family (minus the wife, she calls my car the other g/f) helps to!
