Am I right in thinking in North America you guys have the choice between a GSR and MR? What are the major difference between the two?

Incidently, optional extras haven't been announced in the UK yet so i've only listed what comes as standard.

Also does anyone know the different models being sold in Japan and the standard spec for those?

So you guys don't get an option for higher power models at all? I don't know much about the automotive market there but do you expect some higher powered models at a later date from Mitsubishi, or will it be down to aftermarket additions?

Mitsubishi UK state that all models of the car must be fuelled by Super Unleaded as well, which over here is 98-99Ron. How does your petrol/gas compare?

They say it has to be super unleaded but the M3 I had said the same and I never bothered with the prices as they are. It still works just has more shite in the fuel mix i guess.

IIRC, 98-99 RON is like 92 here, give or take.

Wait so does this mean the SST can handle a little more power.

Well we're getting it with 300Bhp as far as I know.

I heard a rumour that Mitsubishi UK are going to test a 330 horse power SST for 12 months before they will consider putting it out on the market because they are unsure how much the transmission can take.

I think now all models have AYC, ACD, SAWC. Before US lacked AYC, if I'm correct.

What fuel did you use if you did not follow the manufacturer's recommendation?

It would be 95 Ron in the UK, i've no idea what your equivalent would be...92 maybe?

its the adaptive "something" system for headlights so when you go around corners the beam is adjusted a # of degrees to better light the road

now i think of another one that i thought USDM cars were getting, thats the auto folding mirrors, like most of the jdm cars get.

oh well, as someone pointed out on evom.net, we got the most important features this time around, but my feeling is that Mitsu cut few of these systems out to compensate for the additional $$$ they had to spend on the airbags for US market. AFS?

Welcome, pltek!

^Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS)
AFS is a lighting system that automatically turns on an additional lamp which follows the direction of the steering wheel turn to further enhance night-driving safety

I don't think the UK get's that either.

We get electrically folding mirrors though.

Indonesian get JDM. My SST Premium Package will come next week. Bought seat heightener and small lip rear spoiler already (remove the big wing). Want to install EcuTek, HKS complete exhaust. Ecutek+exhaust should be 340whp.
From evolutionm.net
I just spoke with ecutek ( england ) they have finished the software development for the X. They are seeing 320 - 330 whp on a basic flash on a bone stock X. I was over in england last month and they have had an ecu for about four months, doing development on it. From what they told me .. the car responds great and there is alot of power to be made with the car.

Software and can bus cable .. will be available to dealers withing the week according to ecutek...

P.S. dont ask me what dyno .. because i dont know

Their car was at WRC ... in new zealand, they did all the R&D with it..

So just from a reflash they saw this power? ie no exhaust work?

New Zealand gets JDM options. If you hit the arm alarm key twice the mirrors automatically fold in.

Yes, we in Indonesia did get the JDM version.

But as usual, like Japanese market, we won't get the MR version here, just GSR with TC-SST

But are you sure that TC-SST can handle such power?

Even Mitsubishi says that SST is not torque friendly (actually that's my consideration to get which Evo though)

darmawaa
01-27-2008, 12:39 AM
SST transmission gear itself can handle lots of power, the limitation is 2 wet clutch which would overheat during prolonged hard use on S-Sport mode, which you can tell by the warning indication should this happen.
In real world we are hardly go to drag race & track nor use the S-Sport mode in daily use. So I would pick the SST over the manual for daily use, even with 360HP.

Also, transmission limitation based on torque not HP, so if you do not change the turbo, it maxed 22-24psi / 300-330lbf, should be no problem.
You can easily 360 HP with 330lbf if max power reached in 6500-7000rpm.

Hey dudes... anyone know whether overheating the SST results in permanent damage? Or do you just wait till it cools down. Plan to hit the track at least a couple of times in mine...

darmawaa
01-27-2008, 02:03 AM
I think mitsubishi should set the temp warning signal way below safety level, to keep the warranty. should be OK if you wait until it cool down. You may want to add trans. oil cooler if you go to track often.

R_E_X
01-27-2008, 02:05 AM
Geez, overheat! That's the least thing I want to happen

You planning to make it into 360 HP with SST? that's cool. What do you do to make it happen?

I'm kinda new to engine mods, so I don't know much about it

darmawaa
01-27-2008, 02:16 AM
Reflash and full exhaust system. Then maybe a bigger intercooler and intake. I'll let you know one I mod it, then you can compare with your car. BTW, what is your cell#?

No it won't .. you'll just go into limp mode until the transmission cools down .. you'll need to change the fluid after that though .. :godance:

The ATF temp is set pretty high before going into limp mode .. current evo auto is set at 140C .. with a 2nd cooler, you'll only see up to 110-120C ..

Also the thing to watch out on the SST is .. it slips the clutch when you're stopped .. remember to trigger neutral when at the stoplight to prolong the clutches (pull both up/downshift handles at the same time to make it go neutral).. it's really a stupid idea by the manufacturer to 'fake' the feel but wear the clutches ..

I thought it was a good idea, It's just like when you are in a manual and you bring the cluth up halfway in first gear to move foward slightly, or all the way to creep foward fully.

I doubt it add's much wear at all.

I do not know about SST, but DSG in my Golf GTI fully de clutch when brakes are pressed ( no creeping at all), like neutral in manual. The reason I pick the X over STI because it's auto tranny.

Yes .. when you can modulate when to slip and when not to slip ..
on the SST .. it slips ALL the time .. even when you're on brakes holding the car .. so you're going to wear down the clutches in no time ..
