I really wanted to pick up an EVO X but when they released their Canadian pricing.. I couldn't justify it.

I paid pretty much paid $1800 more than a BASE GSR to get a fully loaded 08 STI. Picked it up last Friday and I'm happy to say that it's a blast to drive! It doesn't look half bad in person either... :)

In the end the Cdn friendly pricing of Subaru won my $$$. Hopefully when they do release the Cdn Evo X they'll give you guys some incentives... I have a feeling they won't sell that well at these price levels and in a few months time you guys will be able to get some good discounts on the X. When I asked for my deposit at the dealer the salesperson says I wasn't the only one.

Maybe by year-end I'll sell the STI and pick up a good deal on a MR. :)

While I am sad that we won't be able to swap camshaft info in the future, I am happy for you in your new purchase. There's nothing like the feeling of putting the first few new miles on your brand-new car. Enjoy it for all that it is.

As far as my advice for possibly trading it in, if you are financing and didn't leave that much money down, I would wait a couple of years to make that move, lest you lose a pretty penny come trade-in time.

Evo or STi, I'm still glad you're here on this forum.

Hey Dude, Gotta agree with you on the Cdn-friendly pricing. At first I was very much looking forward to the X ... but the lack of 5spd on the MR, and then the Cdn-unfriendly pricing.... kind of a turn off.... I'm actually gonna go check one out tonight, they just received at my local dealer...

How do you find the car so far? Any comments? more pics?

On the topic of not buying an Evo X, the practical side won out for me, and on Saturday I picked up my new 08 Legacy GT Wagon 5MT in Diamond Grey metallic. I haven't driven it much yet, but it is a sweet ride, actually better than I thought. I'll post picks and driving impressions in another thread later.

BTW, I took advantage of the $8,000 cash rebate and got a really good dealer discount, so for me this car made sense value wise, functional wise, and it is a fun and sporty car, too!

Paid Cash for the car... I already have someone line up to by my car if I decide to sell it. :)

I figure yes I'll loose some money on the STI but will be saving if Mitsubishi decides to adjust their pricing in the future or have a year-end sale. This way I get to have owned both cars.

It drives very nice on the streets but will give you guys a more in-depth review when it gets more warmer and I can take this thing to the Track and AutoX.

I had a Stage 2 (chipped, TBE exhaust) B5 S4 with coilovers, H-sport sways, Stoptech BBK. Just for a quick comparision.

Power:
S4 comes sooner and hits you harder and is linear to the top.
vs.
STI starts building around 3500rpm and continues to pull nicely all the way to the top.

Brakes:
the STI brakes feel fantastic...better then my Stoptech BBK on the S4 (most likely due to the weight of the S4)

Handling:
First Track day will be in March (Portland) so just a quick Street review.
First Impression... The chassis and suspension feels quite solid.. yet soaks up bumps and uneven pavement. There is body roll but that is to be expected.

Interior:
Nothing spectacular but definitely a step up from previous STI. Very liveable. Always loved the STIs and EVOs but couldn't get pass the interior so never considered owning one until now. Nav's got some good options, Sound system is not the greatest. Seats are alright not as supportive as I'd like it to be.

This is my first car that I feel like keeping stock......for awhile anywayz :)
No need for anything really... exhaust note is nice, suspension and brakes work well. The Wheels and ride height are just the right setup for the car. All I can really see in the future is maybe a tune via Cobb accessport or a ECU flash. Tuners are getting someeally nice gains with that down in the States.

All in all I'm quite happy and excited picking up my first Subie! Can't wait to break it in some more and really have some fun with this car.

One of my track buddies who owns a GT3 took it for a spin an was quite impressed with it. He says knows why him and his Porsche crew has to work hard to shake of the STI. He is quite a snob when it comes to car (typical 911 owner)... but he really like how the car felt, power and handling wise.

Here is pic of my old car (good memories) and my other track weapon.

Can't tell if you have Ohlins forks on the Yamaha or not. Great paint job BTW!
I loved that paint job when Valentino used at Valencia (?). I don't know what is worse, my car or bike addiction.

I was going to get the new TTX rear shock and ohlins internal for my front fork but speaking with my dealer.. he actually took apart the forks and the internals were pretty much like Ohlins already.

I had my friend Nathan Hester, AMA regular take my bike out... he was quite impressed with it stock form. He races a fully prep R6 with Ohlins everything and didn't ride his in stock from. He told me that he used the same braking and turn in points and my bike and had no issues. :)

Mods so far on the R6:
Full Ti race exhaust
Power Commander - Custom tune by Mark Valesco (Fast Freddie's former tuner)
Graves Reasets
Billet Brembo Master

Love tracking cars.. but nothing compares to the feeling of a bike on the track!

Just got a Catless DP and Cobb Accessport installed! It has totally transformed the handling characteristics of the car. Now it pulls like my old stage 2 S4. The added power and throttle repsonse seems to settle the suspension better allowing me to rotate the car more with the throttle. What understeer?? hahahahaha.

It's a must do for anyone with an STI. Downpipe and Accessport and DONE! More power then you'll every need for the track! Love how the car just pulls you outta corners now.

BTW... just signed up for a trackday April 28th in Portland. It's a BMW organzied event. Hope to see some of you out there with your new shiny EVO Xs.

I'm gonna do that for my LGT, too :hump: It won't be STI stage 2 power, but prolly equal to stock STI power (or a smidge better). Who woulda thunk it? Are you using the Cobb stage 2 tune map or someone elses?

How difficult an install is the DP (did you get a different heat shield, too)?

My first trackday will likely be closer to home than that. Might join up with another local group, like the MINIs or BMWs, unless we can get a couple dozen Subies together for our own track day!

My friend is getting his 08 spec B tuned.. with uppipe and downpipe and Accessport, Pat R is expecting his car to pump out numbers smiliar to a stock STI. My friend can't wait till it's done. He drove my STI to squamish and was in love with the power and throttle response.

After the mods on my STI... he goes damn... I should of got an STI. :) But he will be very happy if the mods give him at least stock STI power.

Downpipe should take 1hr to do. pretty straight forward. People have been really happy with their LGT tune from RocketRally. Check out the LGT numbers.. pretty crazy. This is with a flash, uppipe and downpipe for the LGT:
