: which is more reliable?
BLKEVOX 10-20-2009, 10:46 PM i heard mitsubishi makes the engine for bme 335i and 135i, is that true?
which engines are more reliable and can take on more beating and heavy mod? ours or bmw's?
ShomesomeSho 10-20-2009, 10:51 PM I know that the turbos in the newer 335I are Mitsubishi made but idk about the entire engine
hollywood_X 10-20-2009, 11:21 PM Mitsu doesn't even make the motors for our cars so I really don't think they would for BMW.
boostin20 10-21-2009, 01:00 AM BMW makes their own engines. You can search and read all about them here. Too bad they're not more reliable though. http://www.bmw.com/com/en/insights/technology/technology_guide/articles/six_cylinder_engine.html?source=categories&article=six_cylinder_engine

whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat ?? Please elaborate.
MonsterParadise 10-22-2009, 08:28 AM I think that Mitsu make tubors for BMW
Enjoitk 10-22-2009, 09:03 AM both turbos are built into the engine on the 335i if i stand corrected?
kuvesh 10-22-2009, 01:05 PM my daily drive is a 335 and i have never heard of mitsubishi having any input into this car...
seven_227 10-22-2009, 01:06 PM Mitsubishi is one of the world's main turbo manufacturers, Mitsubishi Europe is the turbo supplier for the BMW N54 engine, and it ends there.
gunzo 10-22-2009, 01:38 PM Mitsu doesn't even make the motors for our cars so I really don't think they would for BMW.
I think that's a misconception ..
GEMA is an alliance between the makers .. and 4B11 is a shared resource ..
The engines are tailored to each manufacturers' specifications ..
Though Mitsubishi is no longer in GEMA .. it was still co developed by them ;)
welcome to correct me if I'm wrong

I think both the engines can take quite a bit of beating to the extent of street driving in the US but i would say the 4B11t can take more bating and mods..... But thats just me....
Bighec 10-22-2009, 03:58 PM both turbos are built into the engine on the 335i if i stand corrected?
Actually the turbos, and the manifold are one piece. That is what I believe you are referring to.So to perform a turbo upgrade you would need mani, turbo, and dp.

I totally disagree. I've had six BMWs and none have had ANY engine problems whatsoever. Not to knock on Mitsubishi engines, but my Evo X, and my former 09 Ralliart and Evo IX MR, the BMW doesn't sound like a coffee grinder if held at lets say 6500 RPM while driving for a while.
I've only had six cylinder BMWs and that is what BMW is best known for; I've driven the living hell out of them without any complaint from the car.....
TRUSTcompany9000 10-22-2009, 11:34 PM The 4B11 is made by Hyundai.
The 4B11 is made by Hyundai.
Only the 4B11 in Hyundai cars.
The 4B11 in Mitsubishi are made by Mitsubishi, the 4B11 in the Dodge/Chrysler cars are made by Dodge/Chrysler... They just share a common design, the engines are built by the manufacturers.

WhaA? what Dodge/Chrysler car has a 4B11??
Evooooo 10-23-2009, 02:39 PM doesnt the genisis have the evo engine in it?
smith 10-23-2009, 06:22 PM doesnt the genisis have the evo engine in it?
yea but its got the ralliart tune on it. the top model genisis has a v6 in it tho.
WhaA? what Dodge/Chrysler car has a 4B11??
Yes, it comes on stuff like the Dodge Caliber.
KickAss 10-23-2009, 08:53 PM OK, there seems to be a lot of confusion, so to set the record straight, All participants of the GEMA manufacture their own engines. They were partners in the design process, not in the actual manufacturing itself.
The hyundai uses a complete open deck in its lower end Genesis coupe, the evo uses a sami closed/open deck system.
BMW still makes inline straight sixes, probably just don't sound as friggin awesome as the video posted since they are not modified for the track.
Chrysler/Dodge use the 4B11 block customized to their needs, just like Hyundai, not the EXACT same one used by Mitsubishi. They are not 100% identical.
