I followed the steps illustrated here but couldn`t get my mode23 log working:

http://forums.evolutionm.net/evo-x-engine-management-tuning-forums/436314-enabling-mode23-illustrated.html

The readings showing on EvoScan are just constant values and do not fluctuate. Need to get this working to I can start logging, what am I missing here?

Troubleshooting time!

Did the "Initial" values match up with what you were changing them to? That is, if it said 0x42 -> 0x52 in your ECUFlash, did the actual value equate to 42 before you changed it? You have an MR correct? Did you use the appropriate values for your ROM?

In EvoScan, what are you selecting in the dropdown box?

The 3 values have previously been changed already to the following when I had my DTC codes disabled:

0x23
0x23
0x52

So I did not touch them this time. Yes I have the MR. My ROM ID is 52690019, and I have copy and paste the 3 lines of XML to 52680015 as stated.

In EvoScan, the logging works if I use the Evo X under the dropdown box. But if I select Mode23 USA Evo X, the readings would only stay at constant.

I can email you a file that has all the DTC disabled and Mode23 enabled.

Its 52680020, JUST FYI.

You got PM, what do I need to change if your ROM ID is different than mine.

Ok, there might be some issue.

Double check that you have the right values for Mode23. Because you have an MR with 5269 ROM ID, the Mode23 addresses are different. They need to match, or they won't work.

Just confirm that they are matching the appropriate ROM ID from that thread, under the 52690019 and not the 52680015 values.

Also, don't use the 20. It's for GSRs.

If you can't find what your problem is, you can email me your ROM, but ideally you want to fix this on your end of things.

I was copying the 3 lines of XML codes under the 52690019 from that page, and then pasting on the 52680015.xml file. Hope I got this part right.

Yeah, that should be right. They show up in ECUFlash and were editable?

If so, then it seems like the definitions are correct, especially if you were able to confirm the initial values prior to altering them.

Here's a simple question... This altered map has been flashed to the car, right?

LVSBB6
10-23-2009, 05:58 PM
Yes I can re-open the amended 52680015.xml file and saw the definition there.

And yes I have flashed back the map in to the car. However I don`t understand what was done to the map, as I thought the amendments made was on the ECUflash software itself?

The process is as follows:

There are changes that need to be made to the map on your car. The changes are at specific addresses of the ROM. The addresses are added to ECUFlash so that you can make those changes to the ROM with the software.

You aren't just changing ECUFlash, you have to make the actual changes to the ROM. Nothing has been done to the map unless you've done the actual modifications of the ROM in ECUFlash.

LVSBB6
10-23-2009, 06:05 PM
Do I have to download my existing ROM from the car to begin with?? Does that make a difference?

All I did was I opened the same ROM map I was running on the car from the computer, and then made the changes to the XML file under C:\Program Files\OpenECU\EcuFlash\rommetadata\mitsubishi\evo\52680015.xml as stated on the structions.

Ok, so I think that's the issue. You have to do more than just change the XML.

In essence, the XML changes are "Enabling Mode 23 Enabling". They don't actually make the changes to the ROM to "Enable Mode 23".

Once the tables are visible in ECUFlash, you then have to actually make the changes to those tables. Read the link you posted in the OP over again, and you'll find some pictures.

Essentially, you open ECUFlash and the ROM you want.
Then, under the Misc category, you'll see these new tables.
Click the box before the first table, and a window will pop up with a value.
Ensure that the value that pops up is equal to the proper value (Read the table name).
Click the value, press "=" and make the change specified by the table name (don't forget the "0x".

Make the changes for all three, save the ROM, and flash it to the car.

So it looks like I need to do something to those 3 entries under the Misc categoary under ECUflash on the Rom which I thought not needed because it appeared the same as the pictures under that link I posted.
I will look into it and get back to you.

Exactly. The photo instructions don't really show the changes being made, it just mentions them in the text description.

No worries.

Make sure to ask lots of questions when things aren't seeming right. This is a complex computer controlling a very expensive piece of machinary.

Enjoy!

same thing is happening to me too . . . enabled mode23 but still looks the same in evoscan. am i doing anything wrong or missed any steps ?

-i have a 53050006 ROM (saved the original copy) and xml with mode23 enabled according to enabling mode23 illustrated

-it seems to be EDM spec

-ride is a evo x 08 MR

-i can read & mod the tables in ecuflash

-as for datalogging i'm using evoscan v2.7 beta5 but i can only read data from selecting EVOX, others with mode23 dosen't work and the numbers/readings are stagnant, does that mean i can't get mode23 to work for my case ?

-did comparison with usdm ROM and under mode23 there are more items to be datalogged in evoscan.

-some logged items are having weird figures and some has nothing ie, absolute load & load2byte has VERY high no's (attached)

attached along are 53050006 & evo10base (can't attach cos max of 5 files) xml's (i'm using it now) a copy of sample log from evoscan and my original ROM.

any guide on how to use the map tracer function in evoscan ? i can view all others except that function . . . nothing moves even when i right click to load hex/xml files.

I also get extremely high HP/TQ readings when i use the Power & Torque to calculate on my logging sessions.

Hope some one could point me into the right directions.

many thx in advance

hi gunzo, thx for replying to my post again . . .

seems like the code you gave me, it can't read after i pasted in ecuflash rommetadata but this below code seems to work with my ECU

<table name="IFMode 0x05 -> 0x23 #1" category="Misc" type="1D" address="0x7f58d" scaling="Hex8"/>
<table name="IFMode 0x05 -> 0x23 #2" category="Misc" type="1D" address="0x8ad91" scaling="Hex8"/>
<table name="DoMode 0x42 -> 0x52" category="Misc" type="1D" address="0x8ad96" scaling="Hex16"/>

there's a nice guy in openecu forum gave me another 5305006 xml and now i can see SST Throttle Computation Map 1,2 and 3. here's the code to share with everyone ;) although i still don't know what it does :duh:

<table name="SST Throttle Computation Map #1" category="Intake" address="5925d" type="3D" scaling="ISCVSteps">
<table name="Load" address="613ac" type="X Axis" elements="17" scaling="Throttle %"/>
<table name="RPM" address="61326" type="Y Axis" elements="16" scaling="RPM"/>
</table>

<table name="SST Throttle Computation Map #2" category="Intake" address="59375" type="3D" scaling="ISCVSteps">
<table name="Load" address="613ac" type="X Axis" elements="17" scaling="Throttle %"/>
<table name="RPM" address="61326" type="Y Axis" elements="16" scaling="RPM"/>
</table>

<table name="SST Throttle Computation Map #3" category="Intake" address="5948d" type="3D" scaling="ISCVSteps">
<table name="Load" address="613ac" type="X Axis" elements="17" scaling="Throttle %"/>
<table name="RPM" address="61326" type="Y Axis" elements="16" scaling="RPM"/>
</table>

when i click on IFMode 0x05 -> 0x23 #1 & IFMode 0x05 -> 0x23 #2 in ecuflash, i ticked it and the box pops up saying "hex highlighted in dark blue" 30 . . . so just to confirm, i right click set data = and change it to 23 for both #1 & #2 ?

and for DoMode 0x42 -> 0x52 when i repeat the same process above, it says "00FF" and do i change it to 52 ?

really sorry for the noob questions but i just want to put the right stuff in my xml and ECU so that i won't break anything :dancebanana:

again many thx to everyone out there.

the code you have doesn't work because its wrong ..
and yes I kept giving you te same thing because that is the correct code ..

now paste the above in and try again .. make sure you revert everything you changed back to the ORIGINAL state before you change ..

this is the danger of modifying the code on the ECU ..
