Never nice... and an even better price :D

I just have to find a shop that can do this for me.. As my engine building, tranny pulling days are over for me.

What is the torque ratting on these? I am looking for around 375-400hp / tq from my MR so these would work for the hp.. but how about the torque rating

After the install of the clutch (15 hours of labor) i was told to break it in for 100 miles
after that the transmission will slip under high torque, I called Kris at SSP and he explained that the SST needs to be reprogrammed, the clutch works fine but the transmission is programmed for stock power, so Kris called my tuner, Jon (HB SPEED) and they went over the ECU mapping and I end up reducing the WHP 5-8% for now until Jon gets more time to get it done, Also my time was very limited and i was in hurry to get my car out, I was told by Jon that I will get a new map very soon to handle 420whp without problems, I currently don't have the dyno sheets I will be get them very soon

I hope that helped

Wow, that sounds hardcore. Were your stock clutches slipping with all that power you were putting down? Let us know how it turned out.

So the Transmission can be reprogramed??

I'm not a tuner to tell u exactly how is done but If I'm not wrong its is programed Via the ECU, the only person can help you with that is Kris @SSP

yes it was slipping bad, after installing the SSP clutch, that problem was gone but we had to work on the transmission not to disengage, it was matter of 15-20 minutes and the Voila.:-)
will let you know when i get the new map, also HB Speed has 2-3 MRs to tune in the next month or so if im not wrong, keep checking with SSP I'm sure they will post all results.

So what is upgraded about these clutch packs over stock? Has anyone even determined what the stock clutches can handle with better cooling and reprogramming of the TCU?

I'm just wondering.

600NM at 3500rpms for the stock clutches.. don't know how long it will last though .. :D
all dash items have to be glued down or they become flying hazards :D

What is that......about 440 lb-ft? And are you saying that is what you are currently running on the stock clutches, and they have not given out yet?

Don't know what's that in ftlbs .. but sounds about right ..actual wheel is about 360ftlbs ..

The protection feature kicks in once in a while though at 4th gear .. so it seems like its a fine line here ..

If its anyone else .. I'll guarantee they will be posting all over the boards saying their clutches are slipping ;)

600nm = 442.5 ft/lb. Chris Cobb is running 400 ft/lb on stock clutches with no problems so far. I'm looking forward to seeing what he gets, supposedly he is doing a fp red very soon.

Good to know there are options out there. This isn't much different than upgrading the clutch packs in a motorcycle.
For now, my 2009 MR remains stock. At most, I'll be getting the Borla cat-back. I have a 550rwhp 2007 Mustang that tests my patience as is. Can't have my DD giving me troubles.

gmazloom, I hope you put down more than 420wtq with those mods and 450whp :D (a normal GSR would probably give 450whp with turbo+cams+supporting mods) MR does have more drivetrain loss, hope this all gets sorted out. (Also dont forget to post pics :D)

We I won't b tuning the car for now, reason being is that it's on the ship on the way to Beirut Lebanon. But as I said HB speed have 2-3 MR to tune in the upcoming weeks and when he figures out how to fully program the trany he will update my map.
Im just waiting.

Update:

Dyno day today for the SST with clutch upgraded clutch discs. This SST is running the Pro Red fluid along with the Front mount trans cooler.

EVO SST made 420 whp and 400 foot pounds torque with factory turbo at 26 psi. We are experiencing no clutch slippage at all on all dyno runs. :godance::godance:

We will be posting up information on this.

I was just giving you a hard time. I have very close friend who lived in Lebanon for 13 years (Hamana), about a 30 minute drive east, in the mountains. Having a dyno graph showing when the new clutch pack slips would be helpful to tuners who can then tune the car just under that level.

Also, since you have a Stage 1 clutch, there must be a Stage 2. Any hints on when? Christmas maybe?

Yes, both of the SSP Evo X MRs both have Stage 1 SSP clutch packs. Stage 2 is undergoing testing at this time. We're currently working on new software development so we can offer that as part of the stage 2 upgrade  Can't give you hint's on a release date yet.

how long does an install take?

12 professional hours. Keep in mind your pulling the motor and trans from your car. If all this seems a bit over whelming for you, we can help there too. SSP can arange for pick up and transport of your entire car, or just the transmission for those who are mechanically inclined. And if those options don't work for you, we can even fly to your location for the install !! Seriously.....we've flown all the way to Hong Kong to install clutch packs before.

Kris .. just a question .. why is the top steel plates from the clutches need to be reused ??

The thickness is different from the other steel pieces .. any reason why the 2 pieces were not included ?? Can we change that steel piece too ?

TheSin - Did you change all the steel or followed the instructions ?

Thanks and merry christmas

The freeplay of the hydraulic piston will be adjusted with the thickness of the top steel plate (for both clutches).
They are mostlikely always different.

Doesn't make sense then because all the rest of the steel can be slightly thicker so there is less free play

Does that mean then the thicker steel will also mean higher clamp force or this is regardless ?

Is the pressure plate fail open or fail close ??

If it fails open, then the thickness of the plates will have little effect because it is pressurised closed..

If it fails close, then the thickness will affect the eventual torque holding capabilities .. plus the likelihood of binding if its too much ..

The clutch is normally open, or as you said failed open.
But the touchpoint of clutch is affected by the thickness of the whole clutch pack. And always remember, there is Software in the trans, which deals with clutch torque, therefore the sw has to know, where the touchpoint is.

OK .,. thanks for the info .. the clutchpacks are installed ..

I'll change the touchpoint and see how it affects the engagement ..

I'll see how much more I can get out of this gearbox then ..

If its much more .. then I'll change my clutches too ..

And a Merry Christmas to you too ..
