Does anybody know most of the features in the Nav system?
I think it's called mmcs and I was wondering if I should get something aftermarket or get that? thanks

I saw CNET review the navi on the lancer and they said that you can play dvd while driving.

I saw that too. However I also saw several posts on a lancer forum which suggests that you can't play a DVD while driving. Although nothing concrete, just people suggesting one of the hacks be a real "video in motion" hack.

Anyone have a GSR with Navi system that can confirm one way or the other?

i have navi in the gsr, installed by the dealer, and it does not play video while in motion.
the aux port (even though mine doesnt have video) works the same way. you get a blank screen with a message that says something along the lines of cant display an image while in motion.

its not attached to the e-brake either.

That sucks! I was hoping it would work in motion so I could keep the wife entertained on long car rides.

Hopefully you can change that somehow, theres a way..who will be the first to find it!

i assume it will be done, but i think it will be of a over ride like on an audi or vw than a simple wire swap/hack

Sorry to bring this back up, but lexus, bmw, gm factory nav units, have been unlocked or modded to play in motion. Have any X owners figured it out yet?

Thanks

Not yet. There has been some success unlocking the hard drive and reverse engineering the firmware in the navi system. But no one has posted a video in motion hack yet.

What all has been done, and where can I find out more. I was involved with the in-motion Nav hack done on the Chrysler REC units and have an email in to Dom at tvandnav2go.com about possible options with the MMCS unit, as I had him mod my 300C's nav with 2 video inputs, and he has a lot of experience with many nav systems. I just got my Lancer less than a week ago, so I'm just starting to look into this, but would like to see what has been done, and what still needs to be worked on.

Things I'd like to see:
In motion video
Option to load video to the hard drive
Multiple video inputs and outputs
Ability to change on screen backgrounds and icons

Ok,

To clear things up. You can play video in motion. I will find the right up on how to do it. You have to splice a wire and install a switch. The switch basically turns off the GPS, and the unit turns off the video feed based on the gps calculating that you are moving... so no GPS then no turned off video.

Second, you can install a video input quite simply. I did it on my lancer and plan to do it on my GSR. if you take out the nav unit and you pull out the AUX input box, then you can open the box up and solder a standard RCA connector to the pcb board. Install a few pins and you have video. If I ever get the time (working out of town for 4 months :( ) I'll post pics.

By law, the USDM model is very difficult to modify. For all the trouble you'd have to go through with doing a true firmware fix, you might as well spend the money on an AVIC Z3. It will have all the same features, plus you don't have to hack up your steering wheel to do bluetooth. That's why I didn't get the Navigation unit, as I am VERY familiar with all the features on it.

Mitsubishi is VERY conscious to local laws and have put up safeguards to tampering.

As is Chrysler REC Nav unit, or their new MyGig system. Mitsubishi doesn't do anything more than any other car maker, but nav units from Chrysler to Lexus to BMW have been hacked, and so will this one. In fact things like entering an address while driving had to be hacked on my 300's REC Nav unit, but the Lancers already allows it! Already one less thing to have to hack.

A hacked factory unit is 10x better than a AVIC unit because you keep all of your factory tie ins, such as service info, stereo, etc..and most important to me, steering wheel controls. Plus, it still won't allow for video while driving, and storage of video on the hard drive. It already has bluetooth, so there is no need to hack up anything on the steering wheel. The factory unit is pretty well set up, just needs to be opened up a bit.

I've done it with my other cars, and I'll do it with this one, just trying to find out if anyone can lend a hand or already has some info to help.

FYI:

I haven't tried it, but looks like you burn a cd, pop it in, and video while driving is allowed. I'm waiting for more "beta testers" to report back =)

They're also taking feature requests. I love it!

I don't think it works on the Evo's navi yet, because it is a "newer" version, but the makers should be fixing it soon :)

Personally, not for me....for the amount of money you would pay for it you can get into a good after-market system with more expandability and functionality.

The only thing (in my opinion) that you are sacrificing is the ability to change or modify certain functions (ETCS i think) within the car. i.e I read a thread (I think here) about being able to roll up or down the windows from the keyless remote.

Just my opinion though.

Yes you can play DVD's while in motion with the patch ISO provided by Okatu on another forum. This patch is only up to 30.94

My MR came with 30.97, I gave him the files to see if he could fix it last week but he hasn't gotten back to me. He probably hasn't found the time to look into it. Hopefully he'll look into it and get back to me soon.

I've pulled out the hard drive, unlocked it, got the .kwi files off it, checked out all the partitions, good times. It won't be that hard to put in a bigger drive and give yourself more space for the Music Server but I haven't bothered picking up an automotive grade 2 1/2 drive to make the switch.

Anyway, when I hear back from Otaku I'll let you guys know

Yeah the MR's have a different version. Wonder what the difference is? The stuff you can control in the car with it? I looked at my car today. It is 30.97 as well and the hack doesn't work.

I had the DVD in motion working on the Navigation but I updated to the new firmware and so it is locked again. You can not downgrade once you've updated to a newer version.

I have no idea when an updated software hack will come along...
