Ken block is currently in the process of inking a 3 year WRC deal to run a second tier Ford team with Chris Atkinson as the other driver.

The question is not whether Ken block can drive, but who with any driving ability at all, couldn't be a decent driver with access to a top end car and a near unlimited budget both for their season and to get practice time in? He is a good American driver, what will be interesting is to see how he fares against what the rest of the world has to offer, his outings in PWRC so far have not been much to get hopeful about. Good luck to him though, it will be nice to have an American to root for.

Ugh i know. Watching the WRC on HDNet is amazing but only seeing those two teams the whole time is a bummer. occasionally they'll show Skoda and private Subaru teams.

I did not know this thanks for the info. What makes him stand out a bit more for me is his fearlessness, similar to travis pastrana. Well at least based on what ive seen from their antics and x-games crap. Its not as much as i wanna see ken block in WRC, but rather the exposure the WRC will get in the US. Ken block in WRC = More Televised races and coverage. Which in turn makes it more appealing to sponsors, which leads to more money, which leads to more teams and hopefully the return of Mitsu and Subaru!

Be nice, Alex is a good guy and the hardest working guy in the car. Drivers have the easy job, codrivers have the navigation for transit, timing calculations, reading notes, dealing with officials, trying to scam more time out of control workers as well as sitting there not looking at the road hoping their driver isn't going to kill them to deal with.

Ken Block is good at attracting money, I'll give him that. People get awe struck by videos that are massively edited and in 3 minutes show the best of 2-3 days worth of driving. I'm just not big on hero worship. You want to see something more than stunt driving look at guys like Buffum. Living legend there and a all around competitor. Drove for years, builds rally cars (including the Rockstar EvoX) and still competes, he just codrove for Burke at RallyNY.

When Block crashes out he packs it up and heads home with his team. When the budget privateer teams crash out the spend the rest of the event working as stage marshals to give back to the sport. I find that a bit irritating, having worked many events that always need extra hands. It comes across as callous. He has enough crew to man an entire stage by themselves, but I guess there wouldnt be enough cameras around. Its the difference between those that love the sport and put their time and sweat into making it happen and those who are riding out a fad for the fame and money. Rally has gone through many booms and busts in the US over the years. It was there before the current crop of "action sports guys" and we'll be here long after they've moved on to something "more extreme", aka something with more cameras present.

End of rant

Congrats to Ken and Alex for getting a WRC gig. They will also be leaving the subie stable here in America, running the Ford Fiesta along with foust in RA. Nice to see ford stepping up in the US and it will be great to have another top end car out there mixing it up with the Evos and Subies. Also be good to have a American to root for.
