I've had my short shifter in for a while now, and either something changed or I just didn't notice it before. When in any gear, there is a decent amount of play in the shifter from side to side. Not forward and back at all, just side to side.

Is this normal or did something pop off on my setup? The car is shifting smooth as butter, I just don't remember the side to side play while in gear. It's almost like you can move the shifter side to side as if it's in neutral.

Thanks.

Well I found the answer. I checked the underhood bushing we put in and sure enough, one of the bushing connections had come apart. So while the car shifted fine, it felt "sloppy" side to side. Here's the great part. I noticed this difference a few days ago. So I had driven some miles like this. I brought the car to the shop today that installed the bushings, and after putting the car up on a lift, they found the bushing that came off when the C clip popped laying on the plastic cover underneath the car! I was really worried that I'd have to reorder the bushings. Problem fixed.

So not knowing alot about these trannies yet, it seems that the one cable underhood controls fore and aft movement and the other side to side. Don't ask me why Mitsu secures one with a cotter pin and the other with a c clip.

And no, the play was more than 1/2 inch, and that's why I was concerned.
