: SST stress !
livevil 11-12-2009, 05:25 PM ive had my car tuned and dynopak dynoed at 312 hp and 374 trq ... for whatever reason the tuner couldnt install it on the cobb ap , so he used ecuflash ,(now my cobb is useless) said hed talk to cobb to rectify this, so i can use this flash/map on the AP . however when i put the "heel to the steal " the car will suddenly jerk and in the instrument cluster/ the dash light comes on for only a FEW SECONDS with the gear symbol and ! in the middle of it (the manual says it means problem with sst) ,then the asc symbol comes on after saying "service required" , i looked it up in the manual ( saying there is a problem with your S-AWC )... i try to hit the asc button to turn it back to the regular display and it stays there, the only was i can remove it is to pull over and turn the car off and restart , am i wrecking my SST ? its frustrating , i dont know if im wrecking my tranny or S-AWC or both ? bahhhh !!! calgon take me away ! I went back to the tuner and had him take tune off , know im back to Stage 2 shelf tune on Cobb ap ,
livevil 11-12-2009, 05:27 PM hopefully i explained this well enough for you jedi's to understand
Jeremy@SSP 11-12-2009, 05:29 PM do you know how much boost your running?
livevil 11-12-2009, 05:35 PM no boost gauge atm :( however i dont know how accurate the COBB is , its tells me like 28 psi
celica2evo 11-12-2009, 05:36 PM I've had this happen to me before also but it was a couple months ago and havn't seen it since
would like to know what the problem is though
kenpo1441 11-12-2009, 05:40 PM Try to run without your BOV...I have had zero issues with mine since I removed my aftermarket BOV.

did you have a boost gauge ?
celica2evo 11-12-2009, 05:44 PM did you have a boost gauge ?
yeah boostin up around 25.7 tapering to around 21psi on third gear pull
livevil 11-12-2009, 05:44 PM Try to run without your BOV...I have had zero issues with mine since I removed my aftermarket BOV.
you mean , put the stock one back on right ?
celica2evo 11-12-2009, 05:45 PM Try to run without your BOV...I have had zero issues with mine since I removed my aftermarket BOV.
are you saying totally remove it or change out the stocker?
weebles 11-12-2009, 05:57 PM you mean , put the stock one back on right ?
Yes, try the stock BOV.
livevil 11-12-2009, 05:59 PM there is only one tuner near here and its 2 hrs away :( kinda bummed that its not on Cobb ap that he could only use ECU flash , ill have to get him to intall tune again :bggay:

Who did you go to? Lightspeed Innovations?
Either way there are tuners who will convert your map to AP for you if you pay them, you'll just have to ask around but I know of a couple places who've said they can do it.

sounds like you might be running to much boost. I know that was the problem with mine. If i eased into the gas it wouldn't happen, but if I floored it in any gear it would do just what your describing. I would venture to guess its a tuning issue, and not your trans.
Iconzx6r 11-12-2009, 06:09 PM Yep, you're overboosting. I could only run under 26 lbs of boost before the same would happen to me.
Jeremy@SSP 11-12-2009, 06:10 PM I would give your tuner a call and see what he can do.

ya kk , so ,,,, i need a boost controller then ?
livevil 11-12-2009, 06:16 PM ya kk , so ,,,, i need a boost controller then ?
ill also talk to the tuner as well
weebles 11-12-2009, 06:25 PM please lemme know
You got pm
You might want to check the code that it is throwing. Chances are, it is the overboost code. Changes in weather and other stuff can cause your car to run outside of the range your tuner tuned for.
You do not need a boost controller - the ECU controls boost.
Ray Knight 11-13-2009, 06:06 AM My guess you are probably spiking to 30+ psi with that much torque and little amount of mods done. In the meantime you can back off some preload on the WGA arm. Get a boost guage before you blow the motor to bits!
Cataclysm 11-13-2009, 07:32 AM There are no tuners in Alberta...just a bunch of morons that think they know how to tune.
legendary_wraps 11-13-2009, 02:46 PM damn.... I'm only running 24 lbs...... Time to crank it up...

might have to agree with you on this , my options now are drive to BC, to rocket rally , or im heading far south,,, have you had your car tuned yet Cat ?

The drive to rocket rally is awesome I hear.
livevil 11-13-2009, 04:02 PM The drive to rocket rally is awesome I hear.
ive heard the same thing , and he knows what he is doing as well ,,, mind you i havent crossed the border in some time either ,,, ill prolly do this in the spring , after i get some more mods too .
Cataclysm 11-13-2009, 04:18 PM I have not had my car tuned, and probably will not have it tuned either. I already have one performance car with no warranty, and this being my DD I don't want any issues with Mitsubishi unless I am near the end of said warranty. For now, just the Borla Cat-back and perhaps a Works drop-in, and that will be good enough.
I wouldn't mind going for a cruise to BC if one of you decide to get tuned at Rocket Rally.

How much are tuners charging for a custom tune in Alberta? Ball park price.
I read on this forum that some tuners in the Toronto area are charging $1500 for a custom tune!
For that price I would rather drive to the states and get it done by reputable tuners such as DG Motors or Ivey Tune.

Get an accessport, stage 2 flash and back to stock in 2 minutes flat. Warranty will still be good 2 go and your car will feel like it should have the day you bought it.
kozmic27 11-14-2009, 01:42 PM You can remarry the cobb to your ecu after the ecu flash to use it as a boost gauge. It will likely save the tuned map as installed stock mode though. You will have to keep track of that. I would try to take your torque limit tables up a bit further before you junk the bov if you have the car tuned for it, and it only is happening when you mash the throttle from around 3k ish. You need to be able to see what boost you are running though to know whether you are at the trans hard boost cut, or just outside the torque limit table of the ecu.

yip your right , thats when it happens ... when i mash the throttle and around 3k
steelbahamut 11-14-2009, 10:12 PM Did you go to Lightspeed for your tune?

Adjust your torque limit table up by 5%. Once you get that done, you may run out of your airflow limit table as well, because the car will actually let you romp on it. If your tuner disabled your dtc codes, you'll want to turn 1235 back on, so you will know if you are out of your airflow limit tables as well. Those two tables are pretty safe even for a novice to adjust, because they don't jack with timing, fuel, or boost. Just for reference, my torque and airflow limit tables are currently both approx 32% over stock, depending on where you are on the power curve. (Less under low load, max at 4400rpm)

Man it sucks that you arent happy with your tune from Cam. I am more then happy with mine.
Were u talking to AAron @ SS the other day? He called me, said a customer with an MR was looking for SST upgrades, because I mentioned to him about SSP.
Talk to Cam see what he can do for you. Hopefully he can make things right for you and make u a satisfied customer.
I also believe Reigel tuning in Calgary does tuning too.
