According to what i just read on edmunds insideline the GTR has a Six-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission. If this tranny can handle 473 HP why cant the MR's Six-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission handle the same? Or can it??

Though both transmissions are auto-manuals, different transmissions from different vehicles are designed with the engines output in mind. This is why, with most cars you must swap out the transmission(and possibly the entire driveline) when major increases in peak HP/torque are introduced. In other words, the GTR tranny is designed to handle 473 HP without fail, whereas the Evo is designed to cope w/300HP.

I think if you check getrag's website, which is the company that is sourcing the SST to Mitsubishi, you see the numbers of DCT transmission that car available and the amount of power it can handle.

I think it even shows the one that the GTR is using, it is different from the one that is used in the Evo X.

so mits got the cheap one and nissan got the expensive one and ofcourse the GTR is like 30k more than the X

:+1:
I was gonna say...the Nissan is twice the price of the evo, that's why its tranny is capable of so much more power

I could have swore the GT-R was using a 7 speed automated manual....for the record...

I'm pretty sure the prototype was 7 gears, but got cut.

Why would they spend the extra time and money into making the SST handle over 150 more HP then the car makes? o.O

Getrag makes the Evo X SST tranny. Borg Warner makes the GT-R tranny.

Arent some of the parts for the Getrag designed transmission sourced from Borg Warner...Atleast thats what the guy at the HAS was telling me when we were covering the Delay in the MR

Thank you.

Think the SST's limitation is torque, not power?

All things being equal (which they obviously aren't), the rear transmission layout on the GT-R allows for a larger transmission than on the front layout of the Evo X. A larger transmission allows for larger clutches/greater torque capacity.

If you look at the Getrag site, the highest torque capacity dual clutch transmissions are made for longitudinal engine layouts where there's the most room for a larger transmission.

You can make up the capacity difference in materials and design but at a greater cost.

plus better balance on the car.... helping teh 3800lb GTR handle so well
