: SST at 24h race
Modify 11-16-2009, 05:04 PM Hi Gents,
watch and enjoy, the newest on the web about Getrag and SST.

LVSBB6 11-16-2009, 05:16 PM sweet
11XRAY 11-16-2009, 05:17 PM soo sick...damn I miss Germany
Phantomblack 11-16-2009, 05:24 PM wow
Cataclysm 11-16-2009, 06:06 PM If only the transmission shifted instantly every time I asked it to, vs the odd delay at times. Drives me bonkers, because I have no idea why it decides to add an extra couple tenths before shifting.
swingarm 11-16-2009, 06:17 PM What a lovely green hell
Would love to see the fluid from the transmission after that race! ;) Would also be curious what transmission fluid as well as transmission cooler was used on this EVO X for the 24 hour?
Awesome video by the way, made me all giddy inside about my car again!:godance:
evox44 11-17-2009, 01:01 AM ^Also would love to see absolutely any modifications done to help the transmission, perhaps a lighter car?
jamdread 11-17-2009, 01:35 AM And i'm sure they weren't using the stock SST transmission cooler

Have a look to:
http://www.evoxforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14788&highlight=adac&page=5
There they explained the changes, ther were running an additional oil cooler (very small one).
TICer 11-19-2009, 09:21 AM Hey there,
it is still exciting for me to watch the movies from the race. I looking forward to the next seasion.
Let me add two comments:
The oil and the transmission was from stock, besiedes small SW changes and a shorter 6th gear. I know, people are exchanging the fluid for some reasons, but from our side, there is no disadvantage with stock oil.
To increase the cooling performans, we assembled an additional cooler serial to the stock cooler. Thats it for cooling and the temperature level was stable.
That might be different on other race tracks, but for this high speed track, we were fine.
All drivers were driving in automode during the race and we optimized the shift patterns for the Nurburgring slightly. We were driving always in the "fitting" gear and there was no missshift at all. The Automatik mode is much more comfortable for the driver, therefor they used that mode. A manual driver will not be better. Believe me, we testet it
BTW: The manual mode on the race track is still pretty fast if you compare it with other "automatic transmissions", or which vehicle do you have in mind is faster?
If someone will have the opportunity to be at the "green hell", just give me a note. It is just 60miles away from here and I personally enjoy the track time by time.
See you!

livevil 11-19-2009, 10:19 AM great vid and thanks for the info ticer ... i wanna shorter 6th :drive:
ak47m203 11-19-2009, 11:31 AM i wonder if GTR join that race too.
evox44 11-19-2009, 01:01 PM Very cool. Any modifications to the engine/exhaust? How much bhp are you running?
kozmic27 11-19-2009, 05:46 PM The oil and the transmission was from stock, besiedes small SW changes and a shorter 6th gear.
What SW changes. ECU or TCU? I am assuming you changed out the gear set for 6th to make it shorter?
TICer 11-19-2009, 06:27 PM Hello,
as descriped in the other thread, the engine is closed to stock. The exhaust has been exchanged and thr profil of the boost pressure has been modified. During the race, we were only allowed to drive with 1,4 bar, which is less than stock.
The transmission hardware got a shorter 6th gear, you are right kozmic2.
The transmission SW (TCU) has been changed also in order to adjust the new gear ratio, to optimize the shift pattern for that race track and also some other, minor changes.
Have a great day, I am allready closed to fall asleep ;-)

So is the question we all want to know the answer to is if all parameters of the TCU can be modified by tuners or did you guys modify it because you have inside help from mitsu/getrag???
i have yet to hear of anybody that can actually modify clutch engagement and/or shift points, shift logic or whatever. disable the tq limit yes, but that doesn't solve the "problem".
i want a solution to the SST lag from a stop and maybe a little more aggressive shift points. something like a 3.5-4.5k shift point in normal auto and 5-6k shift point in sport auto mode.
TICer 11-19-2009, 08:06 PM Oh guys,
I did not want to make anyone nervous.
In the main thread about the 24h race, I introduced me and the team.
The team was founded out of Getrag engineers, who mostly were also involved in developing the SST. Also software guys like me are joining the team.
With that background, I can say of course we can update the TCM itself
By the way, we got also support from MMC Japan during the race preparation.
I would wonder whether anyone outside the companys is able to flash the TCM Is someone able to modify the parameters?
Kind regards!

Hopefuly you enjoyed your nap. Please elaborate on software, availability of said software, and possible vendor for the software. Was this Getrag proprietary software? Or something that is available somewhere?
I realize it sais Getrag on the side of the car, so they can do anything they want, bug I promise you that if they released some tcu programing software, people would buy it. Including me.
evox44 11-20-2009, 03:57 AM ^He speaks on behalf of everyone that owns an SST.
DimaEVO_X 04-05-2010, 06:04 PM TICer Very cool
you have questions
1) If the thermostat in sst?
Perhaps with the installation of a large oil cooler in the winter will not warm up
2) before the race you changed clutches in sst, conducted an analysis after the race?
3) I understand you put the stock cooler of the second series?
4) What is the torque in the machine?
thanks
Russia
TICer 04-05-2010, 06:37 PM Hey,
these questions are easy to answer.
1) There is no thermostat in the transmission. But even with higher cooler capacaty, you will not have side effects in the transmission. Even with a cooler overall temperature, you will habe full function.
2) we did not change the clutches in the trans, the clutches are stock. We analyzed the clutches after the race and we did not see any damages. Of course, we tool care about a "good" and compatible engine tuning. But during the race, there is not big slip or big temperature impact to the clutch, so we did not expect any damages.
3) We used the stock cooler and in serial an aditional cooler. I do not now anything about a second line cooler.
4) we do have a torque of about 460Nm. We did not pay a lot of attention to the max torque or max power but more to a stable torque level at "race engine speed" from 4500rpm to 7000rpm.

DimaEVO_X 04-05-2010, 07:55 PM you wrote
The transmission itself (tatata) is also nearly like mass production. The only hardware change is a little bit shorter 6th gear to increase top speed. Externally equipped is one additional cooler for the trans. With that, the oil temperature during the race never exceeded 102°, so fare away from failing.
By the way: other systems like AYC have had external coolers also.
or you removed the fog and used stock cooler
Russia
DimaEVO_X 04-17-2010, 08:23 AM thanks TICer!!!!
we went the easy way and yet did not interfere in the construction
we simply removed the fog and put a set of RS version
result impressed
Significantly increased airflow fan motor and sst
and began to look more aggressive
runners are not removed
soon put the engine oil temperature gauges, sst, egt
More later
Good luck!

as you saw in Germany, the easy and effective things will bring you forward ;-)

StevieC 06-23-2010, 12:55 PM Is this race normally in May?
Any news on the 2010 event? Has it happened yet? If so did the SST get entered again?:shades:
knifetheglitter 06-23-2010, 04:20 PM so whats that tq conversion to ft/lbs?
crimson49er 06-23-2010, 05:20 PM so whats that tq conversion to ft/lbs?
about 339 ft-lbs
weebles 06-23-2010, 05:23 PM so whats that tq conversion to ft/lbs?
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=nm+to+lb+feet+of+tq
btw 460 Nm equals 339.30 ft.lbs.

The race happened on 15th of May, latest news were that the evo had an accident after 12 hours race with place in the 40th. It was the fastest SP3T (2.0 liter turbo class) in the night with times always below 10 minutes.

hogig 08-03-2010, 08:03 AM Hi there, Modify.
A bit off topic, how similar is our tranmission (rather than the extra gear) to the one used in the 458 Italia? It would be interesting to know how extreme the the version used in the upcoming 458 Challenge cup cars are modified as well?
Thanks.
4080wrx 08-05-2010, 07:59 PM still waiting for my MAF to show up in the mail, seems like forever.

From the function itself, it operates like every double clutch trans.
From Hardware perspective nothing similar to the Evo Trans.
I imagine the cost will be 4 to 5 times of an EVO trans.
The trans itself is tested on many race tracks and will not have any issues at racing.
It is similar to the Trans of Mercedes SLS.
