I'm having administrator right problems on two different laptops...using ECUflash. Does anyone else have the same problem? Both laptop have only one account obviously being the administrator.

What are you using? I'm not very helpful when it comes to mac, but i could tell you the other main two.

Windows - open run. type in CMD or command. If you are running as the admin it should say "directory\directory\Administrator>" Where directory = whatever. as long as you see the admin you shouldnt be having any problems with user rights.

Linux/Ubuntu - open your terminal deal. Then type in "su root" then you will be prompted to type in the roots password. and if you havent set one yet you can do that by typing in "sudo passwd" If you run the program while using root, you shouldn't be having problems.

Mac - I have no idea. I have refused to use these machines since day 1.

hope that helped.

My philosophy is, If you use a mac, you are a dumbass. Many people stray away from Windows since it gets "Viruses and headaches" (all media bs).. If you don't know how to protect yourself.. you are a dumbass. period.

Love windows for its vast compatibility with.. well. everything.

EvoXTimes, if you are using Vista, right click on EcuFlash and click run as administrator

Yeah this sounds like the fix;
Right click - Run as admin

ECU Flash and EVOScan do not require admin rights to run. I'm running them both on W2K, XP, Vista x86 without issue logged-in with a non-privileged account.

+1 on the "Run as administrator"

-134123 on the Mac bashing. Get over yourselves, it's a different operating system that has different benefits and faults when compared to Windows. I'm far, far away from being inept at using computers, yet at the moment all my computers (including my Media Server) are Macs.

you are correct.....they do not need Admin rights to "run"

but its asking me for admin rights when trying to add new rom metadata.

[saracasm on] Read up on file permissions. [sarcasm off]
(Do we have a sarcasm font? That would be sweet.)

As admin, change the permissions on the directories you need to add files to so Everyone (more better is Authenticated Users) can read/write those directories. Then non-privileged account(s) can add/delete files just in those directories.

Then put your bin, hex, etc files into a common directory and NOT under C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\ ...
