: AMS EVO X Engineering Thread...let's make some parts
In addition to all the tests we are going to be doing on the EVO X I am starting this thread to outline the products as we make them available. Here you will see how an AMS product goes from Idea to a power producing part on your car.
Everyone knows AMS products are some of the best out there (if not them shame on you) and now you have the opportunity to see why.
So keep your eye on this thread as we bring you all kinds of goodies for the EVO X.
http://amsteam.net/files/2/AMS%20X%20Engineering%201.jpg
I will start this off by showing you some of our prototype FMIC Pics. This will be a plug and play piece and should give your new X a good kick in the pants for performance.
As we finalize this product I will post up some dyno numbers and some build pictures to show the detail that goes into our product.
On with the pics:

This is just the start. Things we are already working on are:
Turboback exhaust
Front motor mount (almost done)
FMIC (75% done)
Intake System
and of course..... a turbo kit
There are bunch others but we can't give everything away :)

_Chris_ 02-01-2008, 02:02 PM Is AMS getting an MR as well?
Kooldino 02-01-2008, 04:40 PM That front mount looks like sex. Gotta love bar and plate. :)
EVOXGSR 02-01-2008, 04:50 PM That front mount looks like sex. Gotta love bar and plate. :)

Yeah for the right price LOL jk I'm sure they do.
Tunerhead 02-04-2008, 04:32 AM Looking good AMS!!!!
We do ship overseas and have AMS dealers all over the world :)
These guys busted some ass over the weekend. They have some parts finalized and a bunch more almost done.
FMIC
Upper Pipe/ Hot-pipe
Front Motor mount
Single tip / race style Exhaust.
Here are some new pics to gander at.
First the Front Mount IC is done and Finalized. A release on this piece will be coming very soon

We have plenty of cores in stock ready to make tanks.

The Front Motor Motor mount insert to replace the sloppy stock unit. These are almost ready to be released

Next the AMS Single Tip Catback Exhaust. We will be making a twin tip but we wanted to release a lightweight Race trim version for those guys that are looking to shed some unwanted weight and put a nice free flowing version on the car. take a look at how unrestrictive this piece is. I actually like the angle tip too.
Please keep in mind this is a prototype piece and might not completely reflect the final catback we choose to release.

Lastly on the slate and just about ready to sell is the Lower Intercooler pipe (which is now the upper on the X). The stock piece was pretty well made but we did see some small room for improvement. If for no other reason to add a little flair to the engine bay.

darmawaa 02-04-2008, 06:33 PM Do you make silent type and loud type of exhaust? How many dB over stock?
_Chris_ 02-04-2008, 07:57 PM Nice work! Especially on that exhaust.
on2it 02-04-2008, 09:24 PM nice.
1. Will you have a dual exhaust tip solution or you totally moving away from that to a single exhaust?
2. Is that a 2.75" or a 3" piping? .. loooks very very nice.
3. Do you have AMS dealers in New Zealand...(?)
on2it 02-04-2008, 09:25 PM How many dB over stock?:+1: I quite like the factory sound and level.
nice.

If you read the caption above the exhaust pictures we are making a twin version as well
This is all 3" piping
Yes I do Edgell automotive in New Zealand is an AMS dealer.
Eric
Kooldino 02-04-2008, 09:57 PM 3" is the way to go, looks sharp.
I especially dig the exhaust hangers. :p
That FMIC looks huge! Can't wait to hear more about it in regards to pressure drop and power gains.
Good work, guys.
Kooldino 02-04-2008, 09:58 PM Also, in regards to the engine mount, what durometer is used? Also, any chance of it coming in black rather than red? Does it need to be pressed in?
Wow, I'm interested in the exhaust and intercooler piping. Is that exhaust one piece from the cat all the way back? Or is it going to be 2 or 3 pieces for the final production model?
Also, do you have any AMS dealers in Japan? Any price list yet?
Thanx
dmx88227 02-04-2008, 10:26 PM iam def doing a after market dual exhaust
Kooldino 02-04-2008, 10:26 PM They're going to have to make it with a few flanges in order to make it shippable.
EVOXGSR 02-04-2008, 10:59 PM Hmm, I am also curious about the intercooer in regards to the power gains and pressure drop. If it is suitable for the stock turbo, then at what power level does the core become maxed out? Also, the intercooler piping that you guys made is now the upper piping, right? What about the lower piping? Does it come as a kit with the new intercooler? What are the dimensions of the stock piping vs the upgraded piping, both lower and upper. Also, I noticed that the upper intercooler piping in the picture now goes all the way to the throttle body instead of necking down like the stock piece. Looks great, but is there any pressure loss? What are the pros and cons of the stock design vs the AMS piece? Sorry for asking so many questions, but these picks have given me a hard on and I'm a little overwhelmed with excitement right now. Thanx.

Thats great! thanks. Edgell are responsible for some very fast evo's in NZ. Let us all know when you start shipping so I can hit them up.
PDXEvo 02-05-2008, 01:44 AM Yeah, dual exhaust, and paint the AMS logo to match the head cover :) Looks awesome guys!
silvreclipse 02-05-2008, 03:42 AM Yeah, dual exhaust, and paint the AMS logo to match the head cover :) Looks awesome guys!
:+1: looks sharp guys keeps us updated on the progress of the car and parts.
Tunerhead 02-05-2008, 04:54 PM Looking Good AMS!!! Luv that FMIC and the Single Tip CBE.......I likes!
Will it ever end LOL. Its has been exactly 7 days as of today and we have a ton of product engineered for this car.
We replaced this:

We have some great ideas for the Lower IC pipe as well.
Sometimes these guys here amaze me at what they can get done in such a short period of time.
_Chris_ 02-05-2008, 10:30 PM Are guys gonna work on the MRs as well?
Do you have a price list for your parts? I'm really interested in the piping & exhaust.
Kooldino 02-05-2008, 11:08 PM Lookin good, fellas.
The amount of space alone that you free up with the intake is incredible.
How does the MAF respond to the pipe?
EVOXGSR 02-06-2008, 01:44 AM Ah, damnit. I was about to copy this and paste it from evom, and ams beat me to it. Glad you guys are keeping us up to date to. Maybe I don't need to check evom anymore... Awesome work guys! Need dyno results!
EVOXGSR 02-06-2008, 01:51 AM Ooh, yeah how does the maf respond to the intake? I've heard that evo maf's are very quirky when it comes to aftermaket intakes. My buddy put an injen, which I think is junk, intercooler pipe and intake set on his evo 9, and the car acted wierd as shit. It would no longer hit the full 19 lb of boost, only hitting like 14 psi, and just drove like shit. I'm guessing that this is because of the maf not responding well to the intake, and that maybe tuning could have corrected this, but tuning shouldn't really be necessary with just an intake. Bizzare...
Darius@AMS 02-12-2008, 03:12 PM Another great AMS product being made, Under the hood shifter bushings:

Darius@AMS 02-12-2008, 03:12 PM Here you go guys, HP and Torque compared to stock
66 Ft/lbs of torque increase peak and as much as 80 PLUS carried across...not too bad at all

"under the hood"? Where do these go exactly?
I've only played with cars that had solid shift linkage, so I'm not familiar with how the cable linkage works.

WOW, AMS you guys are awesome, always coming out with top notch products
Nooka King 02-22-2008, 09:08 PM on da fo reels:shades:
Over the weekend our guys are going to work on our twin tip exhaust system that Ivan thought up. I wish I could tell you more about it as its super trick. but when you see it you will see why I had to keep it all hush hush
We also are not done making products. we really want to push the stock turbo some more before we go diving into a larger one as many EVO owners wont be pulling off the stock snail for quite a while.
Just because we are not making the most HP now doesn't mean we wont catch up. Making quality parts that carry the AMS name take time...but the wait will most certainly be worth it.
I hope to get you guys some new exciting pics maybe as soon as tomorrow.
Eric

Very nice.
Question - how's the motor doing? What kind of oil blowby are you getting?
EvoX-LI 02-24-2008, 02:04 AM That FMIC looks freakin sweet. Hope the price isn't too high.
_Chris_ 02-25-2008, 04:06 AM Whats the core size of the new & old FMIC?
EvoX-LI 02-25-2008, 10:56 PM Ye. Are we going to have to modify the bumper as I have heard in the other EVOs?
Darius@AMS 02-25-2008, 11:28 PM Ye. Are we going to have to modify the bumper as I have heard in the other EVOs?
No you do not modify the bumper or undertray in anyway with our FMIC, it even uses the same brackets as factory. Same thing for Evo 8/9 FMIC's.
on2it 02-25-2008, 11:34 PM :+1:Whats the core size of the new & old FMIC?
Darius@AMS 02-25-2008, 11:39 PM All the info about the FMIC is here:
The AMS replacement intercooler core for your EVO X is a direct bolt on utilizing your stock piping hangers and mounting points with purpose built end tanks for the EVO X. This intercooler has over 80% more internal flow area than its stock counterpart.
We tested many intercooler cores before finding the best performing core available. The bar and plate style core is 12.4" tall, 20" wide and 3.625" thick with over 1250 cfm flow. This is the same core we use our EVO VIII FMIC and it only measured 1 Psi of pressure drop across the core at 650 WHP!!
This intercooler on our Test EVO X here with just a stock turbo picked up 10 Wheel horsepower over the stock core just by bolting it on!!!
*** All AMS intercoolers are pressure tested after assembly! ***
Some of the attributes of the AMS EVO X Front Mount Intercooler:
Direct Factory Replacement with No cutting or trimming required
Available with or without an AMS logo Stenciled on the core
80% more flow area over stock
The core is rated at only 1psi of pressure drop at 650 Whp
Bolts right up the stock piping
utilizes the factory Intercooler hangers along with added Supports
Radiused at the inlet & outlet for smooth air-flow
_Chris_ 02-25-2008, 11:41 PM Thanks Darious
Kooldino 02-25-2008, 11:55 PM Nice looking part. I especially like how it's a drop in replacement.
silvreclipse 02-26-2008, 12:06 AM nice thanks for the updates darius.
TRUSTcompany9000 02-26-2008, 01:22 AM Very nice, once I get some $$$ I'll have to go do that, but more than anything I'm waiting for the twin tip exhaust
on2it 02-26-2008, 01:49 AM Beautiful! keep the updates coming.
I will be purchasing from intake to end.. (just waiting for your twin exhausts to make a showing).
drewbabyacm 02-27-2008, 03:12 PM Need the twin exhausts! Need pics. Wait is killing me. :wallbash:
PDXEvo 02-27-2008, 03:23 PM Looks awesome guys! Keep up the good work!
