What oil type/weight is recommended for the Evo X? Does it come with a synthetic as factory fill or use special break in oil?

Recommended oil from the factory is Mobil 1 Synthetic 5w30.

Oil filter is the same as the one on the EVO9 part #MZ690116. Dont forget to pickup a crush washer. They are usually sold separately but most dealers throw it in for free.

What's the K&N part number for the oil filter?

For aftermarket K&N Oil Filters, it uses Part #HP-1010. I always use the factory one just to be safe....

when it comes to synthetic oil there is only one best brand... AMSOIL, THE FIRST SYNTHETIC OIL.

Im sure theres varied opinions on which brand is "best"

I for one, exclusively used Lubromoly in the past for my bimmers. Also I have heard Royal purple and Eonos as being up there in quality as well.

Mobil will hit Valvoline or Penzoil but they will never compare their oil to AMSOIL.

Thank you, I'll be sure to stock a few.

K&N filters are superior to any of the standard type filters I've seen on the market.

Do you have a cliff-notes version of this test? Im not sure what the end result of this test was and/or what it was trying to accomplish and/or how this is related to OIL...

I've always used Mitsubishi genuine oil filters on my '05 Evo without a hitch. I would recommend it to anyone looking to follow a healthy maintenance regimen. As stated above, the crush washer must be used at each oil change regimen. I would not really deviate too much from what the factory dictates as recommended maintenance.

Are Oil Changes covered under warranty? Or does Mitsu not spoil their customers like BMW.

Nope, oil changes ARE NOT covered under warranty... at least here in the US.

However! Southcoast Mitsubishi here in Southern California does some pretty unheard things...

Not only do they sell the X well below MSRP AT/DURING/AFTER launch, but they actually also give free lifetime oil changes to any of their customers as long as the car came from them.... Now THATS what I call service!

what is a crush washer????

its when you have a crush on your neighbors wife, and the washer comes to take you out...

its a washer that you put on the oil drain bolt to create a seal between the drain plug and the oil pan... You need one everytime you change the oil.

A key and often overlooked step. This can be the culprit of drain plugs backing out... The result? Seized motors!

That's an air filter test (which has nothing to do with this thread).

Cliff notes: the better an air filter flows, the more dirt it allows to flow through.

They are talking about the copper crush washer that goes on the oil drain plug bolt. I am a non-believer in this thing, so I never used it, and never had any leaks or issues. Some people swear by them. The idea is the wash crushes to form to its surrounding and provides a better seal. You can get a bag of them from the dealership for cheap.

Amsoil SSO 0W30 FTW. I used this on my sti and loved it. Had less consumption over the 3000 mile period between oil changes, and the engine was smoother and quieter. Plus, it kills mobile 1 in the wear ball test, actually beating out everything... even the rare castrol 0W30 that some racers swear by. It's good stuff, but expensive; about 10 or 11 dollars a quart. BTW, if anyone who is unfamiliar with oil is scared by the 0W30 rating being different than 5W30, don't be. The first number has to do with the cold flow properties of the oil, and the lower the number the better it flows when the motor is cold. The second number is the weight of the oil at operating temperatures, which is 30 just as the factory calls for. It's great stuff and is designed for competition use, so for most of you street drivers it's probably overkill, but for the track guys it's well worth the money.

Like the Amsoil..but staying with the Euro Formula Castrol 0-30. It's rated at 30 but is actually more like 40 weight. I have a case sitting here and good source to replenish it. No one around here has the Amsoil. Besides Amsoil and Euro Castrol nothing else goes into the engine.

And one oil I will def' stay away from is Royal Scam...uhh I mean Royal Purple or what we call it at shop Royal Puss'. I just don't trust a purple oil goin' in my engine and the wear tests are just not that good

We do not offer free oil changes to the Evo X buyers. This was an offer in the past for Evo 8 and Evo 9 customers that purchased their cars from us. We put this together as a promotion for our purchase of Huntington Beach Mitsubishi. We have not released anything that states we will extend this offer to the evo X.

Thanks
Sam
