i dunno if i'll be able to wait another 6 months for mitsu to fix whatever's wrong with the SST. Sept or Oct 2008 is a long ways away and I definitely need a car within the next two months.

god dammit Mitsu.

The OP is a Mitsu dealer so he would be one of the first to know.

btw, I am wondering if any of the SST owners in Japan have been experiencing any problems with the transmission.

btwX2, I also wonder if Mitsubishi plans on upgrading the MR model whenever it is released with more HP and torque.

If he's not messing with us I guess I will have more time to save up for a bigger down payment.

I was really looking forward to putting an order in for one in the next couple months. On a good note atleast they are giving it more attention. Should be even better now!

i'm beginning to think the MR isn't worth it anymore. this might be an overreaction but mitsu's financial situation plus this complex dual clutch transmission that can't be serviced...i dunno.

i might look into the Evo X GSR now, Phantom Black or a used Audi S4 or RS4.

this news has made baby jesus cry.

Sorry guys. I wish I was kidding. A lot of people have been waiting for the MR to come full swing, but upon reading memos from 2 valued sources higher up the food chain, it seems like rather than present the US with a sub-standard product, they want to make sure it's 100% on-point when it gets here, which should be the 2009 model. This makes complete sense, as the 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart will be equipped twith the TC-SST and it's introduction to the U.S. market is crucial in Mitsubishi's plan to go head to head with Subaru in the mid-$20k WRX market.

btw, I am wondering if any of the SST owners in Japan have been experiencing any problems with the transmission.

I've heard some people talk about the engine stalling every now and then with the SST. Other than that, the only other complaint I heard was the overheating issue in extreme conditions. If productions were stopped due to problems with the SST, they may issue a recall here. I'll keep an eye out on it.

Can't you just get the same options as the MR on the GSR?

In the land of Canada, no. In fact, we don't even get packages, we have 3 trims here. GSR, the trim of nothingness, no HID option, no aero kit option, and no navi option, you name it; it won't have it. MR, I believe it is the same base MR as the one in the US. MR premium, this trim has everything...not sure about aero package though.

Hey KMXxBadboy: Would it be possible for you to go into some detail on what's "sub-standard" about the TC-SST, please? Is it the overheating issue we've been hearing about, or is it something worse?

I've heard some people talk about the engine stalling every now and then with the SST. Other than that, the only other complaint I heard was the overheating issue in extreme conditions. If productions were stopped due to problems with the SST, they may issue a recall here. I'll keep an eye out on it.

Hey SiC: I've benefited greatly from your helpful posts straight from JDM land. I'll be getting an SST car from Japan. It's in the showroom already and should be registered etc. and in my hands in a week. If you have any further details on what's going on with the SST, and if there's a recall, that would be most helpful. I'll need to make sure my dealer can address that in time to come. Yes, people probably think I'm crazy for being an SST guinea pig, but I just couldn't wait.

To the rest of the nice folks here that are disappointed with this news about the USDM MR, AND are happy with a 5MT car, I say go with the GSR to avoid disappointments. You can definitely add the other bits yourself. e.g. the Bilsteins apparently give a more luxurious ride (not necessarily firmer or more suited to the track), but (I think) you would have to change them anyway if you want a drop on your car.

Cheers.

Recalls are not good. A few people buy the car and experience the problem, they'll spread the word and those people on the fence to buy or not will decide not to. If you know that it's broken it's really not a good idea to attempt to push it on to people.

I'm going to allow this thread to stay here, however, I'm going to lock it for a short time to let things cool off. I'd rather not get people upset if it does turn out that the MR is coming this year.

We have guys on both sides of the fence saying two different things, and I'd rather let this cool off a little bit before it gets out of hand. I'll reopen it later this week, hopefully when we have more information on this, preferably a statement from MMNA.

Please don't start any threads on this topic in the meantime.

Now that this is open again, any more news on this? If the MR has truly been delayed until October then I'm going to go buy a GSR this weekend. I'm not waiting that long just for the SST. I'll just get the GSR with every option available and deal with the manual transmission. (I'm already wavering a little due to the mods available for the GSR which may not work with the SST)

Again, I have repeated this across several other boards over the internet. The MR production for 2008 has been cancelled. I received an email regarding this. No, I cannot post the email as this would be a violation of confidentially. I cannot confirm the reason why the MR has been cancelled. Anything you may hear about this is only a opinion based on assumptions and not facts. The only fact is that production has indeed been cancelled. I cannot confirm when someone would be able to order or better yet when they will finally hit your local dealership as I dont have that information yet and it would be speculation and again not facts.

Also, I cannot guarantee that this information applies to the entire North American region as the information I received was on the district (Northeast Region) level. But I can almost be certain that no dealers in the country will have these available.

this past sunday, i spoke to Mike Evanoff in person regarding this matter at the southcoast Mitsubishi Evo launch party. He re-affirmed that the MR is still on schedule for Spring 2008 release here in California. In case you dont know who Mike Evanoff is, he is the manager of product strategy for Mitsubishi Motors North America.

In addition, him and his team brought out 4 Evo X MRs to display. One in each color including the Phantom Black. They drove them in....

Here he is in case you still don't know who he is.

Man I really want to know if this rumor is true. Because if it is then I'm going to stop waiting and just go buy a GSR.

I really wish this stupid rumor would stop. The car has been confirmed to arrive, I do not understand the intention of this guys ranting. If their dealer doesn't get it, fine buy it from me.

It will come. Hopefully by May, but its impossible to get a firm date for some reason.

too many factors to consider, we might even have the cars, but if customs takes it time we are at their mercy. I am not stating we have the cars yet, but these are some things to factor in when we wait for a new product. I will post up the day they arrive with pics and prices. Until then, we will not have an exact answer on anything.

Sam if you hear any different can you post ASAP? My biggest concern is that the warranty on my current car expires on April 18th. I hate having a car that's not under warranty so I'm hoping to get rid of it before then. I want the MR, but I'll settle for the GSR if I can't get an MR within the next 2 months.

Excellent! If my local dealer doesn't get one I may make the trip down your way. (I grew up in Long Beach, so I have family I can visit while I'm down there)

Same story here for the Canuck. I heard they are waiting to be cleared for customs.
