Hey guys and gals, I would like to post up some photos of the amazing arctic wonderland that I have taken over the last 2 years in Iqaluit.
All of these photos were taken with my P&S Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5. I love this thing and have learned a lot about composition, and how to set up the camera to take great photos. Enjoy.

One of the rarest and most beautiful cloud formations I have ever witnessed; Noctilucent Cloud

Nice work, those planes look like toys sitting out there.

Thanks. Those 2 planes were photographed from the tower at the airport where I work from about 100 feet off the ground, and they were 1/4 mile away or more. I probably had some digital zoom going on as well because of the distance. The orange glow on the right was coming from 6 huge flood light arrays that are on at night to increase ground visibility for aircraft.

And because I work at the airport, and I am plane crazy, here are some photos of planes I have taken.

Boeing 767 Freighter:

Busy summer day, 2 Dornier 228's and an ATR-42:

Looks beautiful, and miserable at the same time.....so how freaking cold is it there?

Right now, not so bad. -15 Celcius and snowing. During the coldest of colds it can reach below -40 celcius ambient (I've felt it, it's COLD). Actually I have a picture that demonstrates how cold -40 is.

So cold that the ravens sit on the lamp posts to keep warm:

It's one of the loneliest places I've ever lived but there is always action at the airport, or in the Legion. To be expected for living on an island in the arctic. Our city and the airport is the territory capital and the hub for all the remote communities in the area so we do see quite a bit of traffic, as evidenced above.

Below: Showing off on Christmas day. The perfect donut as performed by a GMC Sierra 4x4 in the airport parking lot. :godance:

Where is this general location? If you don't want to give away specifics. I'm just curious.

OMG, Is that inside the Arctic circle? Google maps can't calculate directions there lol. We have an old saying in New England. "Can't get there form here." I can see your Control Tower in the satellite image.

Just south of the arctic circle. We're at 63N, the circle is 66N.

Glad he likes the camera.

The evo isn't up here, it's back down in Manitoba. There are a few reasons for not having it here:
a) No high octane fuel
b) not many roads to drive it on (small community on a rocky island=10 miles worth of bumpy roads in town and nothing else)
c) Cost of transporting it here are astronomical. Air Freighter charges $26/cm and the boat freighter only comes up in the summer time when the ice is off the bay.
