-Evolved Boost- 01-04-2010, 04:50 PM isn't this technically the same as the who puts the most miles on there car? i understand there are variables like how people have different driving styles which could waste gas quicker/slower and also the cost of gas is different. but its very similair.
quick question...unless i missed something...but how are we supposed to know that the people putting gas in there car are actually putting it into there Evo and not into other cars or taking pictures of other gas pumps with 91, 92, or 93?
chindian 01-04-2010, 04:54 PM I think us canadians have an unfair advantage in this contest. I'm somebody in Vancouver or GTA could win this hands down

Nope.

As with most things, there will be some integrity to this. Also, if we see that someone put in 16 gallons of gas into the car, that will be a pretty dead giveaway right there :shades:
Why so negative?
Reveers 01-04-2010, 04:58 PM Woot woot I might have a chance to win this one!!
-Evolved Boost- 01-04-2010, 04:59 PM Why so negative?
sry didn't mean to come off so negative...crappy day today...those where the first things to came to my mind.
good luck to all as i already have a JNZ powdercoated spark plug cover and i will vouche that they do top quality work. the winner will be very happy with it
saytheb 01-04-2010, 05:00 PM Why can't I use 100? My only options here are 91, E85, or 100... =(
TRUSTcompany9000 01-04-2010, 05:03 PM Why can't I use 100? My only options here are 91, E85, or 100... =(
Because I said so :shades:
That and it's to keep it as fair as possible. I understand only having access to 91, as I used to live in CO and now live in CA, with 93 nowhere to be found.
byebye 01-04-2010, 05:07 PM The strategy is to run your car to the point you are on fumes nearest the most expensive gas station selling 93 octane. Technically I guess you probably should have capped it to the "most expensive 15 gallons of gas you put in your tank"(don't remember the max capacity).
This has everything to do with gas prices in your area and if you are will to run your tank dry. Is running out of gas bad for the car?
Can we submit video accompanied witha pic?

Some other countries as well could also top us easily. There are obviously a lot of variables with foreign currency receipts - the exchange rate on the day of the fillup, the relative cost of gas in another country (e.g. if you consider 1 liter in the UK in USD versus 1 liter in the US in USD you would see a very large difference indeed I imagine).
How much is fuel in GTA? I can't remember the last time I was up, even though I filled up.

I'd imagine though 93 in TX is not much more expensive than 91 in CA. I remember a lone gas station along the PCH north of Monterey that was charging $5 per gallon for 87oct. It was the only gas station for 30 or 40 miles either direction I think, maybe more.

I hear ya. Go west from Grand Junction on I-70, 200 miles later you will run into a lone gas station in the middle of nowhere Utah that has absolutely outrageous prices as well, but it's one of those stations that you have to go to if you're traveling that way.
DBL R 01-04-2010, 05:11 PM wow I want those bad!

1 liter = 0.264172051 US gallons 1 US gallon = 3.7854118 liters
3.79 litersx 1£=3.79£=$6.10 per gallon(current exchange rate 4JAN10)
$6.10per gal x 15gal=$91.53
When I was living in London(2005-2007) it was $1.80 per GBP. My SRT-4 fillups were ~9 gallons or ~$61. The prices are high there because most if it is tax. As an american posted at the embassy there I didn't have to pay UK taxes so I would get a refund of the difference at the end of the month.
Kris
Scooter 01-04-2010, 05:22 PM Can this wait til hurricane season? I know they will jack up prices then... No way I can win this now. :(
dcasandman 01-04-2010, 06:31 PM Im sure I can win this one pretty easy if I can get my car back in time. I pay a shitload for 93 gas here in Oklahoma. What is the exact size of our tank I don't have a manual near me.
kcandiloro 01-04-2010, 06:34 PM Im sure I can win this one pretty easy if I can get my car back in time. I pay a shitload for 93 gas here in Oklahoma. What is the exact size of our tank I don't have a manual near me.
I'm pretty sure it's 14.5 gal.
ShadPTR 01-04-2010, 07:32 PM IMO, too many variables to make it hard to judge. Starting with different countries.. :D, I think the last time I checked, 91 Oct was about $1.07ish / L CDN, that's a bit over $4 CDN / gallon (if I'm calculating correctly). Thats roughly $3.80 US / gallon. We get taxed up the... and I'm sure there are a few out there that are outside North America as well that may not have it so "lucky" ?
xPRimNT 01-04-2010, 07:45 PM Trust, can we include 94?
We don't get 93 here. It's not even real 94, it's inflated with ethanol. It's no more expensive, they just call it 94.
94 is what I use. Doesnt matter someone in Van or on the island in BC is going to win this one if no one in jolly ole England(tax city) doesnt chime in.
nystc23 01-04-2010, 10:42 PM NY probably has some of the most expensive gas in the US -- actually, we are usually in the top 3 states for the most expensive average gallon of gas (which is why I go to NJ -- only 3 miles round-trip -- to get gas ~$0.50 less per gallon!!). I know you Cali people have damn expensive gas too!
How about making this the most gallons you can fill your gas tank on a fill-up rather than most expensive ... wouldn't that keep it fair on all levels?
oh yeah .. those prizes are awesome!
MicMcKee 01-04-2010, 10:51 PM "This month's theme is the most money paid for a tank of gas in your X. Pay a lot for gas? Now is your time to get a reward for it! "
The wording is 'this month's theme', not the person who pays the most wins out right...
So that leads me to assume if someone is creative about presentation or conditions that they may be able to get by with a tank total that doesn't necessarily take the top #...
But then again, I didn't create the contest so I might be off...
Freebs 01-05-2010, 12:40 AM NO... I just ran my car till it was literally on fumes on the highway but I didn't get a picture of the car at the pump since I didn’t even know about this contest until now... I kind of have proof as I put what tank of gas it was on the top of the receipt (I am anal like this when I go on road trips) and how many KMs the tank got me and so on...
I got 511km (317miles) on the one tank of gas and it took 56L (14.79gallons) which is slightly more than the tank should technically hold so I had to have been running on fumes lol
Anyway I can understand if I am not allowed to enter this gas receipt in this contest, but if I can let me know. I promise you it was in the Evo as it is my only car I would be driving in the winter and the Truck would have taken a crap load more gas then this (a fill up on it is typically around 90-100L).
Also another way I can try and show I am telling the truth. This trip/tank of gas was from my house in Calgary, Alberta to Rosetown, Saskatchewan. If you put it into google maps it will say 501kms (so what ever roads I took were slightly different) but it was all on 1 tank of gas either way...
Optiblue 01-05-2010, 01:04 AM Theres only 87,89,91, or 94 octane here in Vancouver. Filling up in the states feels like I'm stealing gas!! I'm super on this contest... I'm pretty much paying 60 every tank with like 7L Left. I shall push it to the limits on an expensive gas day as well!! Should be able to get mid 60's :)

dcasandman 01-05-2010, 01:22 AM Ya, I forgot to factor in overseas and the canucks.

58?!? So cheap for a 55L fill!!!
Ya, I forgot to factor in overseas and the canucks.
in the long run we lose big time :(
I'm sure if the mods agree on a currency conversion, we can change over CDN $ to USD
that sounds fair, do you guys in the states ever pay into the 50's?
mantella 01-05-2010, 01:44 AM 93 is 2.75-2.79 a gallon here now. it was cheaper but went up a week or so ago.
nystc23 01-05-2010, 02:06 AM that sounds fair, do you guys in the states ever pay into the 50's?
not since I had a jeep .. and not since gas was $3.99/gal for regular (87 oct)!!
Whitewind 01-05-2010, 03:32 AM So I understand this right, you just have to fill your tank up in your X right. What if my tank was a big ass fuel cell. I got fuel cell sitting around. Lol. Just said tank not stock or anything.
Freebs 01-05-2010, 03:39 AM So I understand this right, you just have to fill your tank up in your X right. What if my tank was a big ass fuel cell. I got fuel cell sitting around. Lol. Just said tank not stock or anything.
It has to be realistic as said earlier, if you’re getting above 15 gallons I would say people would start calling B.S so it would have to be in the stock Evo X tank... I was running on fumes and put in 14.7 so I could see some one getting 15 but much more than this would be grounds for calling B.S
But I can see the U.S/CDN currency being an issue... what are we going to do with this? my vote would be the exchange rate on the final day of the contest should be the one that goes... so it could be in anyones favor...
fishstix 01-05-2010, 03:43 AM Ehhh I'll pass on this contest.
what are we going to do with this? my vote would be the exchange rate on the final day of the contest should be the one that goes... so it could be in anyones favor...[/COLOR]
No. Would have to watch the market and time it as such...:ghey:
weebles 01-05-2010, 02:15 PM LOL I got this one in the bag!
Fort McMurray gas prices will blow your mind rofl.
Evooooo 01-05-2010, 02:24 PM ya i refuse to let my gas get that low so i will not be doing this contest.
-Evolved Boost- 01-05-2010, 02:27 PM ok i think i was viewing this contest wrong the whole freaking time...i read it as "how much money you spend on gas within the month"...which after reading through the thread some more seems to be totally wrong. so its who spends the most money on 1 fill up then?
Evooooo 01-05-2010, 02:30 PM ok i think i was viewing this contest wrong the whole freaking time...i read it as "how much money you spend on gas within the month"...which after reading through the thread some more seems to be totally wrong. so its who spends the most money on 1 fill up then?
Correct

Well might be BS but rules just say your tank in your X. Nothing about working or not. I'm not going enter just saying ways around everything. (Sorry on my BB in Denver airport so if I missed something opppssss lol)
Optiblue 01-05-2010, 05:43 PM I'm just going to drive until refuel light, then drive for another day and refill. $1.11/L right now for 87.
nystc23 01-05-2010, 07:43 PM so that's ~$4/gal then? I could compete with that if I bought gas in NY!
Scooter 01-05-2010, 07:46 PM What if I set the car up to tow a tanker and then run fuel line from the tanker to the fuel pump... :innocent:
I'm not going to win this but I'm going to have fun with it.

I think it would be cheaper to just buy the coil cover and oil cap :confused2:
s2ksam 01-05-2010, 09:46 PM We have 91 pretty much everywhere in Arkansas but there is a random gas station that supposedly carries 94.

Yeah, roughly $4.20/gal 87 and $4.73/gal for 94. Even if you do the Can to US conversion, it's still rough living with the Evo as DD's :(
vivac2 01-08-2010, 12:06 AM might not win this one...but here we go...my first participation in a contest here...

Yeah after seeing that bill for $55 I'm out. I dropped $40 on 13.5 gallons. Good luck suckers!
Kris
chef_tony_t 01-08-2010, 03:28 AM so i drove til fuel light was blinking for 1 day, literally running on fumes to the gas station. i fueled up with 93 octane in Lake Worth, Florida. heres my pics
evox44 01-08-2010, 04:22 AM ^ Wow, that is so easy to beat....$40 bucks only? I would definately consider moving in your area.
Also is 94 allowed? There are only 87,89,91, and 94 here (pretty close to 93)
vivac2 01-08-2010, 12:57 PM so I might have a chance to win this one?!?!?!?! :P
for once...the price of gas in Canada has something good!
Optiblue 01-08-2010, 07:09 PM no we lose on every fill up

Rik84 01-09-2010, 01:23 AM dammit! All I can run in my car is 94 due to the tune :(
Although, today did just cost me $62.00 for 49 litres of 94.
Oh, and I'm in Vancouver BC :)
evox44 01-09-2010, 02:49 AM I paid around $52+ today, w/o the gas light or anything, just went for a regular fillup because I saw Sunoco on the way (they are the only ones with 94oct here, I believe) Def. should consider entering this contest, RIK will probably win.

I would enter, but 94's not on the list :(
Hint hint - add 94?
xbox4414 01-09-2010, 02:58 AM With this one we must also remember the Canadian dollar is worth more and must adjust for those not in the states....
Rik84 01-09-2010, 03:01 AM LOL I got this one in the bag!

xbox4414 01-09-2010, 03:03 AM And about 94...in CA it's considered a type of race fuel, so I would win I bet if 94 was allowed...

It's almost a 1:1 exchange again. Last year when I was in toronto I felt I was living like a king on my company's per diem!! lol
I tried a couple of fillups but my price comes nowhere near anyone else's yet. I even considered asking the owner of the station to jack up the price of the gas just for me to $11/gallon but thought it probably wasn't worth the questioning looks.. :)
xbox4414 01-09-2010, 03:06 AM It's almost a 1:1 exchange again.
Keyword: almost. Still .30 difference or so on a full tank, haha.

Worth more than what? As per x-rates.com CAD is .965633 of USD. My commission fluctuates based on the dollar, I watch it like a hawk ;)
Our dollar doesn't make the big kicker here, it's the fact we get hammered on gas prices. Today I paid $1.25/L for 94 Oct. That's $4.75 /Gal (3.8L/Gal). If I was paying with USD using that X rate it should work out to $1.21/L or $4.59/Gal.
Ok, so I'm about 8 beers in so far on my Friday so someone please feel free to prove my math wrong...

1 U.S. dollar = 1.03180008 Canadian dollars
Ttsumibishi 01-09-2010, 03:20 AM The math is sound.
However one thing people forget when they compare currencies is that regardless of exchange rates, you have to think in terms of the local economy and strength of the CAD dollar in Canada. Does $1 go far or not? I see higher prices on most items compared to the states because, typically, (correct me if I'm wrong I've never been paid in CAD) the same jobs in Canada pay a little more in your currency than the equivalent in the states. So Taking all those factors in, you have to think of a person with Canadian income buying and living in Canada - does the dollar (figuratively speaking) go a long way?
When I was in Switzerland a few months ago, the exchange rate was 1:1 CHF (swiss franc) to USD. Does that mean the swiss franc is the same 'strength' as the dollar? Hell no. A starbucks coffee was almost 8 CHF which was nearly $8 USD. Compared to the US, they get paid more in their local currency (CHF) due to the local cost of living. It doesn't mean their dollar is stronger. Maybe they don't make twice as much to afford things that cost twice as much there, maybe they get paid 50% more, but everything is 100% more expensive than the same item in the US. Is their dollar stronger in the local currency compared to US? Nope, because it doesn't go as far. That's not the case though, the swiss bankroll can be very nice indeed.
Their smallest coin denomination is 5 CHF. You don't see bills until 10 CHF. Also gives you an idea of just little 1 CHF is worth. :)
Generally speaking, someone in Switzerland coming to vacation in the US will usually live more kingly than a US citizen vacationing in Switzerland.
This is a common thing people forget to consider when comparing currencies. It wasn't that switzerland is a very expensive place, it was just an expensive place to me.
I'd go back in a heartbeat!!!

All very valid points!
I really don't know if the wages paid in Canada are more or less than a comparable job in the US.
I know that the cost of living in Vancouver BC (I live in Langley, about 30 minutes from Vancouver) and the surrounding area is among the highest in Canada. Due to this I'd say that certain jobs probably are indexed on a higher pay scale than other areas in Canada/US where the cost of living may be less.
I do know one thing for sure - we all get screwed in the hoop when it comes to gas prices :(

Last year I looked at canadian (Toronto) positions in my company versus the same(ish) job in Boston Massachusetts and Omaha Nebraska and Toronto was paid highest (in CAD) and then Boston and Omaha last as cost of living there is much lower than Boston. I don't know if GTA is anywhere near Vancouver in cost of living, but prices for gas generally do suck. I'm amazed it's not TOO bad around Boston.
weebles 01-09-2010, 04:23 AM And about 94...in CA it's considered a type of race fuel, so I would win I bet if 94 was allowed...

Sorry, I still pay more than that for gas :P
Maybe I'll make a submission later in the month but today I put in like 39 litres and it came to 52$
Had my tank been empty woulda been a 60$+++ fill up
Here you go, I got 31.16 liters of gas, which is 8.23 gallons and had to pay 45,46 euros. That is $65.53 USD for just over half of a tank.
Germany = $7.95 USD per gallon.... ouch.

I would watch out for this place. You go in for 98 octane and you just get 86 pumped in upside down. :D
also, that is 98 Ron = 93.1 octane.

►EvolutionX◄ 01-11-2010, 10:19 PM What you will need to do is submit a picture of your X at the gas pump showing how much you paid for a tank of gas. The gas purchased must be 91, 92, or 93 Octane.
Optiblue 01-12-2010, 01:44 AM Well we don't have 93, and our 94 is a scam as it's actually just 93. Not going to run 92 for just for a contest and knock up my engines tune!
Excalibur 01-12-2010, 01:50 AM I wish I could have had my car in alaska when I was there. It was like 3.50 plus just for 90. They don't even have 91 at all of them.

LOL, no. I mean it is pretty fail but it's still legit. It's true race gas they just are too cheap to get real signage. Haha

no american gas is cheap compared to the rest of the world either a west coast canadian or a euro will win...
xooet64oox 01-13-2010, 11:28 PM Yea, I got a good 13.5 gallons tank fill @ $43.50...but already lost to the Euro guy @ 8 gallons. Oh well...

I know there is no sign showing my car and user id but some how i do not think 36.66 is going to win this one. And no the dollar amount is just where the pump shut off. oh and that is 93 octane for 2.89 a gallon is about the most exoensive around.

when i am on empty, it is over $100 to fill up. maybe next time I am dry, i'll show you guys a receipt.

ooh, i usually fill up when there is a 1/4 tank left. sometimes though on the autobahn i am thinking "no need to stop right yet, i am sure there is another gas station just down the road" then panic sets in when i don't find one.

Ttsumibishi 01-15-2010, 05:00 PM :yeahthat:
Scooter 01-15-2010, 05:31 PM The thinking is that when the gas is that low your fuel pickup will get more than just gas but also pick up all the grit and crap that is at the very bottom of your gas tank.
Additionally there are possible fuel starvation issues from the fuel sloshing around during "spirited" driving.
I recently upgraded the fuel pump in my VIII and found nothing in there except gas. No grit, sand dirt or anything. But then conditions vary...

Supposedly this is less of an issue with plastic fuel tanks rather than metal ones, but who knows what junk settles out of the gas you use? You certainly don't want to suck it all into your engine at once.

Then again that's what the fuel filter is there for...
xooet64oox 01-16-2010, 07:12 AM Actually I had a pretty good idea of how much gas I had left. The fill up after a day at the track @ Streets of Willow. I didn't getting any fuel pick-up issues, but then again, this is a small track and not one of the bigger ones...
(well here's my picture anyways just for the heck of it) 91 @ $3.299 FTL
Whitewind 01-16-2010, 04:31 PM Off topic: whats the red box by your IC?
xbox4414 01-16-2010, 09:42 PM It's a transponder used to track lap times. Every time it passes the start/finish line or where ever they set up the unit once that red transponder passes it, stops and starts a lap.

yeah ... i was going to go with the crap at the bottom of you gas tank issue. Just like the fact that you shouldn't get gas from a station while it is being re-filled or recently got re-filled by a tanker --- who knows what crap is in their reserve tanks that is getting picked up & put into your gas tank!!
but hey, it's your car & your decision .. i'd just rather "be safe than sorry"

You're pump is installed at the lowest point of your gas tank and of course it's a pump. The purpose of the filter is to do just that ,filter. It(running your car when it's low on gas) doesn't apply to modern cars today. Your car needs gas to run and it's just not good to run out of gas, not necessarily to run when it's low.

Haha I was stationed in san diego, but I got out of the Marine Corps back in august, and I'm now living up in Sac going to school for the time being. I frequent the bay area though, because Im from livermore, so I spend a lot of weekends there at the parent's house. That place is only like 15 minutes from my house, so I always go and fill up on 94 when I'm in town!

It's a contest for forum members and there was no restriction to location just octane with 93 being the highest...
I love participating and I did go and fill up but at $40 I was not even competative...

No, I didn't think you were.;) You just said you didn't read through the whole thing. I was just letting you know about the guy in Germany so you wouldn't go and seek out the most expensive gas in your area just to know we(in America) can't compete .
Kris
DRIV4K16 01-19-2010, 03:37 PM here is my entry....its not that expensive but i thought i would enter anyway cause my valve cover seems to have disappeared after my last recall service at mitsu.
nystc23 01-23-2010, 04:43 AM just got 12.4+ gallons for ~$35 ... i didn't even bother taking pictures -- and I even had my camera ... oh well
nystc23 01-24-2010, 10:57 PM Ok, so I'm going to be a bit of a hypocrite now (considering I said I never run my car to Empty) -- in my defense, I was only trying to make it to this gas station and continue to make good time on my trip.
Not a huge amount of :$::$: Spent, but as they say with the lottery, You gotta be in it to win it!!, right?
Anyway, I was driving back from my gf's house in Maryland and stopped off in Newark, DE (where I used to go to college -- I know at least one guy on here is going to knows exactly where I got gas haha). I paid $2.87/gallon for 93 Octane .. I also showed the $3.49/gal I avoided paying in New York, not too far from where I live (can I get sympathy points for this??). I have only gotten gas 3 times this month .. once early in the month before I saw the contest, once going down to my gf's house and the one shown here (It's been a low mileage month for me).. I think this will be my best opportunity for this contest, so without further adieu -- to the pictures!!!
